I spent some of the best years of my life in the Sandias, either Skiing in the 70's for $7.50 a day, picnicking at Doc Longs, hiking the La Luz Trail or visiting the Crest with friends, by the way, had you followed that snow trail long enough you end up at High Assets, as I remember it, where the Tram docks on the way up. What views Indeed, its totally good for the Soul. I would drive down the back road to Placitas, where my parents lived, once in a while when weather permitted. By the way, I never owned a four wheel drive until I moved to my ranch near Prescott Arizona. Thank you for the tour of memories that filled my NM life with joy.
Wow it snow a lot in the sandia's, Just Beautiful scenes. 🥰
Excellent video. Brings me back home for a little while. Miss my visits to the peak. So beautiful up there. Sad I left NM. Have a good Veterans Day much respect to all veterans .
Amazing views, love being able to see the city and surrounding areas and (more importantly) where they end and the real world resumes. Thanks, Big G, and LOL at the ending scene.
First time to see Sandia Crest in snow, thank you it was beautiful! My wife and I hope to meet you if we get to move out there .❤
I'm at a loss for words........ except you did a wonderful job 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤!! There is such a thing as 'SNOW ENVY' I know because I am suffering from that! LOL seriously we have nothing like this. Not even in our mountains..... does not compare to what I just watched!
Thanks so much!
Been to the parking lot below the antenna field at the summit of Sandia once before, in the snow, so I know exactly what you experienced. Great video of what it’s like up there this time of year. Really enjoyed seeing the skiing infrastructure there since, like you, I never took that up as a pastime or sport. Maybe next time you’re up that way you could stop by the Tinkertown Museum? Thanks for taking us along on this visit to Sandia Peak.
@stripedpuffin8179 you might like my Tinker town museum video I posted, I think last summer, or check my Museum Playlist. It's closed now, will reopen April.
Hi Big G - Definitely a four seasons in one day possibility in New Mexico today. Only sure thing is cold nights ! Ski 🎿 in the morning & tennis 🎾 in the afternoon. If I had a fireplace I'd be burning wood tonight. Thanks for braving the slippery conditions.
Be careful out there, yes, Sandia Crest is the most amazing view in all of Northern NM!
I so much wish you would cover the two Catholic churches there in Tijeras,Holy Child and Antonio on Cedercrest, and especially the old Antonio Cemetery beside Burger boy. The history of the cemetery goes way back, and I am sure ( even if you are Protestant) they will let you see inside the beautiful churches ( but hold your breath, as the alters are magnificent). I am Evangelical but considering converting, and my Catholic Friends welcomed me with open arms knowing I was not Catholic. I have never seen one of our Protestant Communities equally hold out a hand to a Catholic or Orthodox. I know you work and your time is limited but the sheer beauty of it all is something many Protestants will never lay eyes on. I hope within the next few years to be your neighbor, as I consider New Mexico especially your area the closest thing to heaven until we are in the presence of Our Lord one day. From your kind voice and mannerisms,I know you are a good person. Love from the crowded, flooded, expensive East Redbaron Chattanooga TN
I have covered the cemetery and almost pulled into san antonio Church today, but no time permitting. I usually stop for all old churches
Loved your video! I get really home sick this time of year and your trip up the back of the mountain just brought back so many memories. Thank you so much for sharing. Simply beautiful 😍
Hello Friends ❤ Thank you for coming along, I hope you weren't too scared 😅❤❤❤ See you soon 🎉
Started skiing in my 20s. Sister took me out, a few tips, and that was it. Amazingly, never ever skied in NM. Did Arizona, Colorado, and I skied quite a bit when I lived in California. I've actually mountain biked more ski areas than I have skied. You should take the chair lift to the top, they let you do that. Take it up, get off, and take it down when you're ready. Took the chairlift to the top and mountain biked down on several occasions. Lots of older couples riding to the top for leisure. I guess that's us now 😮 Although,... the lift is a lot more expensive in the winter than the summer. I wonder if they would do a "one trip tic".
I went cross-country skiing up there on Sunday the 10th and the traffic was crazy. So many people! We just don't usually get that much snow this early so everybody was anxious to go. They usually clear the stairs and the decks at the ski area, but I guess they didn't have any staff except to run the lift (they only had one open). We didn't go all the way to the top, but the snow you experienced looked a lot better than where we started at Ellis Trailhead.
Great video! I had never been up to the crest in winter, nor the ski area when I lived there. A little risky at times! Take care.
Thanks, you too!
