Glad to see you post again! Re the hat: i think the cabled brim is such a great idea! I think it would work really well on a plain, solid colour beanie or cap. Maybe that could be a sister pattern release that would have broader appeal? Whatever you do next, i am cheering for your success. 🎉
I can very much relate to the cycles of melancholy and struggling with motivation at times. For me, It cycles between 100% energized and interested in a thing to becoming completely apathetic and not seeing the point in anything at all. Thanks for sharing and being real with us. I always love watching your podcast!
WOW the pixel sweater is utterly gorgeous!! I'd probably agree January is best for it to get the best reception, but I cannot wait for it to come out - I want to knit it so much!!!!
love your honest, free flowing format. Fun and inspiring. agree, much prefer seaming than a lot of purling. As an english style knitter i currently have to avoid a lot purling patterns i love due to the wrist pain that would come. Love me some mindless knits and some easily approachable sweaters. Your modular Noro sweater ideas sounds fabulous! 💜✨
omg I'm Croatian American and i FELT it when you talked about there being such limited resources for learning Croatian. I was raised super Americanized + monolingual so every time i try to learn it now im just like. lol. i'm sooo excited to see what you come up with for your next modular pattern!! you single-handedly triggered my own obsession with Noro yarns, and your designs are my absolute favorite way I've seen them used :)
I looooooove that I helped you get in to Noro. It is not for everyone but the girlies who get it get it. and yes if they could just add croatian to duo lingo i swear id learn at least a decent beginner level's worth.
I loved your latest episode. Thank you for sharing. I hope you have a great time with your mom! Thanks for sharing your relatable words on your down days and on finding motivation. We are all wonders of the world :) Love you, love your patterns and I hope you get your sabbatical some day!
I think I didn't realise you had a pattern coming out - it didn't seem to have as much build up as some of your other ones, like bat wing boat neck! It's so nice though 😊
I love your new episode! Thanks for sharing your feelings with us. I also struggle with depression, so its nice to hear other people i look up to, talking about their feelings. Btw, I have booked your lace workshop in munich! I am so excited!! 🙌
I was about to leave a supportive comment about depression and how it's cool of you to be open and honest about struggles but instead I'll watch wheel of time so it doesn't get cancelled !!! and ofc you're pretty!! thanks for the laughs and the shout out
Your are a wonderful knitter and that's your super power ! Always enjoy seeing your new projects. Lykke copper needles ..wow can't wait to hear what you think. I have Lykke woods and love them ! Nights are a safety zone for many of us , calming , quiet & peaceful . 🌛
Maybe unpopular opinion but I would rather knit in the round with more purling than have to seam a garment in the end (mostly because I'm terrible at seaming and so my finished objects suffer as a result). Also the WoT books are SO GOOD and its the series that got me into reading fantasy years ago - I cannot recommend enough!
Ok I am HIGHLY considering the books. The second season is done and I need more. Ok the hat version is in the round but I'm already committed to the sweater being knit flat and seamed BUT MATTRESS STITCH IS EASY AND SATISFYING i know u would get it perfect with a small amount of practice.
Its been awhile since I've heard "Canadian Tuxedo". I spit my coffee out of my nose when you said it. With all these podcasters talking about capsule wardrobes it made me think what a perfect canvas for all the handknits. Your green vest is perfect over the denim
Oh YAY my favorite knitting podcast has been updated! Let me see if I can answer all your questions... No, I was not bored/you did not bore me, no, this was not too long, yes, I missed you, yes, please keep making more episodes, yes, I love your outfit, and yes I LOVE YOU and yes, you are pretty 💖
I’ve also have bouts of depression since I was kid and I’ve wanted to be self employed for years with different ideas. Every time I think I’m going to do it I get really anxious because I’m like “no, you will get depressed at some point and not want to do anything that has to do with your business.” So I really relate to what you said about being self-employed. I am a really hard worker otherwise but idk if I can keep that up on my own. Maybe one day I will take the plunge. Please keep making videos! They are always so good. 💚
Thanks for watching! Sometimes I get really avoidant with my work knitting/writing and barely make any progress for days. Then whenever I get back to it I'm like why didn't i do this a week ago it wasnt even hard what was i afraid of? our brains are a CURSE
My favorite internet grandma has posted again!!! You mentioned that you don’t want a bunch of well-meaning messages with advice, so I’m not here to do that. I will say, though, that you’re not alone. That’s all. You seem very self aware, so I’m sure you know that although you may feel isolated, you’ll never be alone. I’m a future counselor so I make it a point to let people know that when I see them struggling, so hopefully I’m not overstepping the boundaries you’ve set. I can’t wait to see your next projects! Love the pixelated sweater and can’t wait to see the finished hat! Also the blue raglan is ICONIC ❤
Ok commenting as I watch bc ill prob have to watch this segmented (work, getting in the way!) - i feel like as a garment knitter (and devout knitter of your patterns tbh) i'm not very interested in knitting hats, ornate hats, or accessories lately! i love getting into a long rhythm and doing the some thing for an extended period of time so i can watch a show/listen to a book/etc and settle into the groove. i have one of your tops on my needles now :)
Ah I love your podcasts please never ever stop. I just finished my Dappled Lace Raglan recently, I LOVE your garment patterns, always so unique and fun to make. Much love from Canada
Glad to see another episode. I saw it on your story but was so scared to heart react there😮 I'll watch it tonight while knitting but wanted to come drop my heart here in advance ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi James! I love that hat, and it’s been in my favorites just haven’t done the buy yet. Thanks for sharing yourself, even the hard days…I have them too. You will have fun living with your friend, good times! p.s. go get that Monster 👹
I have only just watched this to the new hat design part. I was surprised that you designed it, because I am used to your kinda signature designs - crazy and out there. The hat is very beautiful but it looks traditional and I wouldn't describe your work as traditional. Maybe that is the issue, it didn't flop, it just took people by surprise.
I was so excited when I saw that your new episode was here... and it's my favorite yet. Knitting, coffee, sadness... yes. I am here for it and I love it. I get it. I know for me, sometimes when I feel the depression coming on it's almost comforting because I know it so well. I try to think of it like my signal to take it easy on myself. Doesn't always work... but it sounds nice. Thank you for a great episode!
It was nice to see you today! I watch you from the state of Maine. I too have depression, but deal/live with it as a day by day (or season by season). Enjoy your visit with your mother!
James! I like so much your podcast, and have learned lots from your sometimes throwaway comments, glad you make yourself available in this way. About the hat (I am a painter) - just needs a strong cohesive element, too even space and color breakup, no place for your eye to rest so your eye is confused, and you can't easily grasp the whole of it. Easy fix! Dont be sad. Abracci.
I wish I could knit… I just snooped on your Ravelry. You are fun and inspiring and lovely. I would love To be a night owl… 🦉 but mornings are also special. You are perfect. What a gift to Listen to you. I hope your mom is in a video… ☮️ from Virginia Beach.
I think everyone is a different species. I'm a cat by nature, haha, never have been able to transition to a morning person but feel that same pressure. The nights are so calming and quiet. Completely agree with depression highs and lows. That was very well said, and you have to find ways to help it. Great podcast. I have your hat, but I think I may use your chart to make socks. Love the pattern. All the best, Kimberly
hi james, I missed you. kept checking in. glad you are here. please get that pixel tweed hat pattern out, pronto! LOVE it. I am a knitter who doesn't mind purling. although I'm not fond of ribbing because I'm a thrower. but I will grind thru the back-n-forth of a rib section cause it's usually small. prague is beautiful! not sure of you and mom's tastes, but here are three of my favs: Lokál U Bílé kuželky for czech beer & cuisine, right off the charles bridge which of course you are going to visit. local pub, big wooden tables. we made a reservation and they put us at a window seat and a bouquet of flowers to go. les moules for belgian beer and mussels. in josefov, the jewish quarter which has beautiful architecture and complex history. and the real reason I even made suggestions...is I thought you would love visiting cafe savoy. we took a short tram across the vltava river and had brunch. it has a viennese buzz, serves czech dishes, pastries and french wine. the quaint tea services felt lux! gorgeous chandeliers, wine wall, dainty dishes. I loved it, and I thought you (or mom) might too. I enjoy your channel and your patterns. peace.
It’s always nice to see a new podcast from you. I am loving the new patterns coming up. I love Rovinj, it’s a few hours drive from us. I will be there next weekend too. Let me know if you need tips on restaurant etc. I am coming to your modular knitting class in Barcelona and looking forward to it.
Please say hi if you run into me! Only here for a short visit but I’ll take any restaurant recommendations you have! Looking forward to having you in class 🤓
@@JamesNWatts I have looked around this morning while I was in Rovinj center. We are spending most of the time walking down the beach and I am knitting in the garden on the property we rent. It’s such a great fall weekend isn’t it? If you want to take your mom for a treat book at Barba Danilo tavern. It’s a bit out of town but it’s by far my favorite place to have a great dinner. Lovely people too. Been knowing them for years
I love your episodes! I look forward to them every time I see a new one. I laugh and smile and feel like I get to know you. Thank you for sharing about yourself. 😊 I am convinced now that I need to knit a Best Vest and your new pixel pattern when it comes out. By the way, I’d knit it either way - knitting flat and seaming or purling. Is there any way to watch your Munich lecture? I’d love to watch the James N Watts 4 hour yarn lecture. 😂
I tore through the WoT books a few years ago and watched season 1. I need to watch season 2 but maybe rewatch season 1 again bc I watched the first ep of season 2 and didn't remember anything lmao Also I was watching a documentary yesterday and they mentioned the amount of microplastics we consume on a daily basis and it's mildly horrifying.
I love you! I love your hat…… but it wasn’t for me. BUT! I have garment quantities ready to go for 4 of your patterns, that I just haven’t bought yet, so I am going to go do that because I want you to have eggs 😂
Glad to see you post again! Re the hat: i think the cabled brim is such a great idea! I think it would work really well on a plain, solid colour beanie or cap. Maybe that could be a sister pattern release that would have broader appeal? Whatever you do next, i am cheering for your success. 🎉
