A country that tells you it's "the land of the free" and "China is a dictatorship" but this "land of the free" locks up more than 5x as many of it's own people as the "dictatorship." @Doomsday Clown They didn't do anything 'right,' they literally bought their way into success by making use of traitors within our own government who are happy to remove any barrier for trade with china, so that they can produce goods over there for cents on the dollar, while they at the same time make things as noncompetitive as possible by continually raising the minimum wage and inflating the value of the dollar to insane heights.
It's not impossible to become rich outside of existing capital since economies are not zero-sum games, but it's far easier to just profiteer at the expense of America than it is to just build it all from scratch.
The chinese are not nearly as ingrained as this mafia (epstein, weinstein etc sex ring that involves all of hollywood/politics ring any bells?) that's selling our country away is, but it wouldn't be wrong to blame china as well as these traitors for things being the way things are today.

I lived in china two years, english teacher, and It was quite the adventure. like you both I fell in love with the country and never wanted to leave. I met my recently married wife there and had all intentions of staying, but as you two talk about I saw the writing on the wall and felt I was there on borrowed time. I was lucky to be back home in the states when covid hit with my wife, january to march, but we had to go back. My wife is actually Taiwanese, so we decided to go back to her hometown. Best decision Ive every made! Not to hate on living in china, I actually live in Foshan, near Guanzhou, but the pollution, the constant bother of visas or bank issues, and especially after seeing how china handled the outbreak scared the living hell out of me.
With all this said, living in Taiwan is great, but now I'm even more terrified about the CCP and their future plans for this country that I now call home. The constant treats of invasion, the sound of fighter jets going over my city every day (Chunghua), and monthly missile strike alerts on my phone really put me on edge.
Where I'm going with this is I have followed your videos since my china adventure, they were a huge part in actually motivating me to make the move in the first place, really eased me into the culture shock. But these videos you make now I believe are extremely important for people to watch even if they have never traveled. There needs to be a mass awakening, because the CCP is banking on our apathy to continue their dominance. When I talk about these issues to friends in the states I'm met with that same PC crap that I'm being raciest and whatever, burns me up! Even my own parents keep asking when and if I'm going to go back to china, they both we also diagnosed with Covid 19 (recovered) and would much rather blame their own government for it then where it originated from!
To end this, America, China Ex-Pats, and the world....WAKE UP!

Zachary Kepley, I so agree with your assessment. I lived in Germany for a year. I loved the German people, landscape, history etc. But it was a real eye-opener. I realized there was no such thing as an innocent German insofar as the Jewish people were concerned. We in the US have no concept how small Europe is, how tightly bound their customs, towns and politics are. I repeat THERE WAS NO SUCH THING AS GERMANS WHO WERE UNKNOWING AS TO WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH THE JEWISH PEOPLE! Was i compassionate? Yes. Was i understanding? Yes. Do i realize we are walking into the same exact situation? Yes! Yes! Yes! So the tie in to your situation is for people to wake up and to become responsible instead of worrying about all this silly stuff that fills most people's lives. I wish you safety and joy.

I was born and raised in China. I left the country when I was twenty. Born in the city, I used to think China was a good place to live, mostly because of the brainwash education I received and relatively confortable life I had. But then when I was 18, I traveled around the countryside in different provinces. I see with my own eyes, the reality. That’s when I decided to leave for good.
Let’s just put it this way, I’m sure most Chinese will agree with this. China is a feast for the very very very few and enslavement for almost everyone. The very very very few has so much that they can do whatever they want, including hiring anyone to broadcast how great they are and at the same time shut down anyone who dares to say otherwise. Since they have so much and everyone has so little, they don’t even treat everyone the way humans should be treated. While everyone, being slaves, has to fight each other ferociously to get the piece of meat thrown out by the few. Think about “the hunger games”, it has some resemblance in a sense.
I’ve been watching serpentza and laowhy86 since a few years ago. I assure you from my personal experience, all they said is true. I enjoy it so much because of their insight into China. It resonates with my personal experience so much as if I’m reliving there in their videos. You know when sometimes you are the few who see the truth, you’d like to hear someone else say it. It gives you an assurance. It’s kind of a satisfaction to know what you know is indeed true, especially when lies are being told by the majority. Since I left the country years ago, it’s also very interesting for me to get to know how the situation there has evolved. From what I know about the country, the current situation is really not much of a surprise.
Well, keep up the good work guys. Stay awesome.

I'm a US citizen who grew up in China (lived there for 18 years), and I can really relate to your guy's struggle with the discourse surrounding China, and the feelings you have towards China itself. I personally find it really difficult to reconcile the fond and happy memories, the beauty, the grandeur of China with a lot of the ugliness that I was exposed to as well. I feel like it's something that many Chinese people really do want to have a conversation about, as my peers, my relatives, and generally Chinese people I've spoken to, have acknowledged both sides of this proverbial coin. But with Chinese han nationalism, the continued state driven effort to conflate the state and the people, the history of European imperialism in China/China's century of humiliation and the impact that had on the national psyche, the opacity of state institutions and its relationship to the party, as well as the lack of verified information about anything political, (and many other factors) the discourse surrounding criticism of China has been more or less poisoned: you are either a supporter of the regime and are therefore a loyal and true Chinese citizen, or a traitorous political terrorist who wants China to be carved up and enslaved by the West. Throw in the more overt ways the CCP uses to control the narrative, and the more overt cruelties the CCP inflicts on political dissidents, existing in a sea of resigned apathy between those two extremes is really the only option for most Chinese people. It's downright depressing, and even despite the massive strides China has made in pulling people out of poverty over the last 30 years, the Chinese people really deserve better than this. There is admittedly some progress on some social issues, like with women protesting large feminist issues in China, but even then it's fraught with danger for activists who might stray too closely to criticizing the CCP. So now, when I think of my home, I guess I have to learn to be comfortable feeling deeply divided about it, because with the CCP there, as it stands today, I don't see how things are going to change for the better.

Chinese friends almost always get shock to see what I go through in terms of: exchange RMB to dollar, hotel, buying SIM cards, train tickets etc.

I think you’re right with the apathy towards their government. My tutor used to passively support the CCP, although not so much now. I once asked her why the Chinese are supportive of the CCP, because they’re not stupid, they know that they don’t have the same freedoms as a democracy. She said it’s a lot about stability, with China having the civil war and all the chaos from the fall of the Qing to ‘49, they’re nervous about something that may return China to that upheaval. She was born right at the start of the cultural revolution, and attended the Tiananmen protests.
