This works far better than I expected! And with dummy display sticks you could use a headless PC and still have 2 or more 4k displays in VR. Limited by the resolution of your VR headset obviously, but still. Maybe when VR headsets get a bit more affordable, I'd pick one up for a virtual office.
This would be so much better with 3D video instead. For example, a coffee shop on a loop with ambient coffee shop background noise. Or a flowing river with river and nature sounds. The still frame VR environment leaves much to be desired. Does it support video. Could you download a 3D video from youtube and set it as the environment?
Am I able to connect a usb external hard drive or connect to a NAS with a hololens 2? Does it work with Adobe acrobat & reader? These are two big things I need if it were to be useful for me. If not I’ll stick with having a PC and screen or my smartphone and dongle.
This has some really great potential for many. But we need 4-8K screens, not just for movies but for productivity purposes. And I absolutely need to see my keboard wile typing code. I would love to see a affordable "headless" computer product.
Awesome quality. I have tried vrdesktop with the Samsung Gear VR and the note 9. It works pretty good but the quality of the single elements was not so good. But in your video the fonts are sharp, so that reading or working with source code is no problem. Do you think that's the device difference and a skip to the oculus quest 2 would help? Thx
I didn't see any 'multiple monitor' setups in the video. Are you able to add multiple screens. I would love to have my reference art on one screen, and my application on the other. If I can do that, I can sell my two monitors and get a VR headset instead.
Thanks for trying it out, too bad the keyboard doesn't have a better workaround, I want to keep using my thinkpad keyboard. Also the text reading is very important, that might be hard to get right. What's your estimate given the current pace of improvements - when would this be viable option in your opinion for a programmer to use for a couple of hours a day?
It's already viable. Take a look at the Immersed app. You can use up to 6 monitors, a collaborative white board, virtual webcam with your avatar, but you can see you team or clients on their webcams for virtual meetings and the best thing, the keyboard overlay, so you can use your real keyboard and even see your hands in 3D without holding the VR controllers. I'm buying the Oculus Quest 2 just because of this software. immersedvr.com/
Amazing! Could you duplicate your screen into multiple different once? I have for the longest time been thinking like this except I just want to rotate (everything including my desk and screens all around me!
@@ocallesp The resolution still isn't there so you'll have to make text bigger to see it well. We're getting there though. Maybe a few more years and this will be a lot more practical
hey bro..just watched a series of videos from your channel..its great to find such a futuristic channel😍.man we re waiting for your upcoming videos..pleaseeee don't stop posting videos..🤥
Is there a way to lock the display in space so you're always looking at it from the same distance/angle, ect? Like having a huge monitor strapped to your face always?
I need some advice, I am starting collage again, all online, and I am debating on doing something like this because I only have 1 room at my apartment so I have a problem with separating space to chill and space to work so I get distracted easily. I got the money for the Oculus Rift but I don't know if buying one would be worth it. Anyone have any experience with noticing an improvement in productivity and focus using this kind of set up in the video?
For those with any of the Quest headsets, you should check out "Immersed". It allows for up to 5 screens at once, no flipping (regardless of how many monitors you have) and allows collaboration with others. No, I don't work for them... I just use it all the time. its great. You'll have to go to their site though, its not yet on the Quest store.
Thanks for doing this video it was very informative and confirmed many things for me. How long are you able to code? I want to get the htc reverb with index controllers. I've heard can't last longer than 20 minutes!? I would love to do it but overheating and motion sickness still seem like an issue. What is your experience?
hello good evening, could you please recommend an app or platform to have access to a digital or virtual office. My intention is that I can interact with it through my phone camera.
GREAT VIDEO, thank you! Question - Is Virtual Desktop only available via Vive or do other VR headsets have this software option? Also, I do lots of type, I'm an IT guy and looks like fumbling around for keys may be a problem, hopefully that "pass through" video camera option was workable. Thanks again the the video!
It works with all steam vr compatible VR headsets. There's also another option for quest users called "Immersed". You can have up to 3 monitors (5 with a subscription) and have a virtual keyboard matching your real keyboard so that you won't have that problem.
Yes. Virtual Desktop is on the Quest. But I would encourage you to try Immersed which is way better. You can have many monitors in Immersed. VD is just one monitor. You can also collab with others and sharing each other screens in same space whereas VD cant. Another good remote and collab app is Spatial but I think its better for whiteboarding and importing docs and 3D models. Immersed is hands down the best when it comes to screens and reading the text.
Vr can have you sitting in a shitty slum apartment but feel like you're in a nice clean mansion with a home theater and fireplace. Just get a space heater and point it at you for better effect lol.
couple hours and still good. need some time to get used to in the first hour. very good for watching movie but might need more improvement for works.(not seeing the keyboard is the main issue)
A remarkably useless program. It does not let you go beyond your desktop, create multiple desktops, arrange them freely in space, create separate desktops for individual programs/windows. It's just a glorified desktop mirroring software.
This is the coolest thing I have seen in my life
Would be good to get an update on the progress of this 2 years on. Great demonstration.

How was it to wear the Headset all day long?
3:39 - Dude, this cracked me up. Nice review mate, I appreciate it, you got my like.
lol, yeah, belly-laugh...
That was so funny
Hahahahahahaha
The best demonstration of this, thank!
This is going to be my first app when I get the Oculus 2. Ty for sharing this
Update your experience.
I have been thinking about this sense I first saw a VR headset. Thank you for this. I might buy my first headset now
if you have budget, go for the highest resolution headset as possible. this would dramatically increase the immersive experience
@@RedStapler_channel can you suggest link of highest resolution headset.

What about the screen door effect? Different pixel configurations have better or worse effects there.

I remember someone did something like that. maybe not this app though
Also, you should put a little sticker on certain keys on the keyboard to keep track of locations.

Nice presentation. I searched the steam workshop but can't find the environments like you downloaded. What search term should I use?
Hi where can I find the library as a work environment? I would love to have it too but I don’t find it

There is a delay between the VR and computer. I have a 2070 Super GPU. This technology is not ready.
delay? Maybe you need an upgrade. I use a 3070rtx with an AMD ryzen and its runs smooth, is not cheap thought
How can I get this software?? I seriously need this. I need multiple screens and vr rooms possibly too, this I think would help a lot with my ADHD!

You can use AirLink or Virtual Desktop via Wifi.

not that tiring. still fine after couple hours of working.
note: you can reduce brightness inside the app

Yes and you can switch from screen to screen
The only thing I am worried about is substantial eye strain :/
I've never had any in VR but if that's an issue you'll just have to wait for higher resolution headsets
