  • Changing the oil and oil filter in your 2008-2020 Dodge Grand Caravan is a regular maintenance task that is meant to help maintain engine performance and protection to ensure a long engine life. The oil filter helps trap contaminants in the oil before it’s recirculated throughout your Grand Caravan’s engine to cool and lubricate the internal moving parts. It’s recommended that your Grand Caravan’s oil filter be replaced during each oil change, in addition to adding fresh motor oil. Most 2008-2020 Dodge Grand Caravan owner’s manuals suggest you change your van’s oil and oil filter when you see the Oil Change light illuminated on your dashboard, since your vehicle has an oil life monitoring system that continuously evaluates oil condition. You can also check the service manual for your Grand Caravan, which details the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance intervals. Avoiding oil changes can eventually lead to engine wear, damage, and failure. These detailed instructions and video can help you perform a complete oil change on your Dodge Grand Caravan.

    These step-by-step instructions and detailed video show an oil change on a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan, and will be similar for models from 2008 to 2020. Replacing the oil filter and old oil ensures there is fresh, filtered oil to properly cool and lubricate your Grand Caravan’s engine components. Low oil levels, a clogged oil filter, and dirty oil can all cause engine damage, so make sure to perform a complete oil change when the Oil Change light appears or at the interval recommended in your owner’s manual. If you notice reduced engine performance, oil pressure problems, or metallic noises from the engine, you can also perform oil changes more often to ensure the best engine performance and service life.

    Run the vehicle until it reaches normal operating temperature.
    Park on a level surface… and open the hood.
    Pull up on the engine cover to remove it.
    Take off the air intake hose by loosening the clamps on either end with a flathead screwdriver.
    This should give you access to the oil filter housing.
    Place a rag or shop towel around the base of the housing before removing the cap.
    Use a ratchet and 15/16 or 24mm socket to loosen the cap.
    You’ll remove the cap and used filter as a unit by lifting them straight out of the housing.
    Remove the filter from the cap by pulling directly out on it.
    Take the old o-ring off the rim of the cap.
    Set the cap aside… and discard the old o-ring.
    Lift and support the front end of the vehicle… and chock the rear wheels.
    Locate the oil drain plug… and slide your drain pan underneath.
    Use a ratchet and ½ inch or 13mm socket to loosen the drain plug… then remove it the rest of the way
    by hand.
    Let the oil drain completely.
    Removing the oil fill cap will allow the oil to drain more quickly.
    Once the oil has drained, wipe down the oil pan and drain plug with a rag or shop towel.
    Rethread the drain plug by hand… then use a torque wrench and socket to tighten it to 20 foot pounds.
    Slide your drain pan out from underneath the vehicle.
    Lower the front end… and remove the wheel chocks.

    The oil filter housing needs a 24mm, not a 15/16th socket. At least on the 2016

    d)
    For the 3.6 liter pentastar, there is a different oil filter and filter cap for 2013 and below (WIX 57526.) 2014 and above the filter and cap were changed (WIX WL10010) due to redesign of the ridiculous plastic oil filter/oil cooler housing. They take two different oil filter models with the associated different part numbers. The filter you show is the later..2014 and above model. So this video isn't the same for all models. That seems like an important point that you missed. Note, that ALL pentastar motors have the same ridiculous plastic filter/cooler housing which is prone to breakage. Don't overtighten the cap or use the wrong oil filter. If you break the plastic neck or anything else, the fix is fairly expensive, and not an easy DIY repair. The entire top of the motor (plenum, fuel line, coils etc) all have to be removed in order to get to the unit. Note also, that there are now aluminum replacement units, so don't use an o.e. plastic replacement.

    Where did you put the jack and where did you put the jack stands?

    • @facedeer
      @facedeer Год назад

      Looks like the jack stands go in the spots where the manual says you should put the jack when changing a tire, there are places on the car designed to support its weight there.
      I've been trying to find something definitive on where the trolley jack should lift the car at the front like this, and unfortunately this is the closest I've come yet to seeing someone actually show that - all the other videos have the car up on a hoist. Kind of frustrating, seeing it from the outside like this *almost* gives me confidence to try but I really don't want to wreck anything.

    • @waseemiqbal305
      @waseemiqbal305 5 месяцев назад

      He explained both. If you have a key star:
      1) Turn the key to the first position, which turns on the car without starting the engine.
      2) Complete the gas pedal process as described in the video
      3) Turn the key back to off position
