  • You have a human puppet, for example a beautiful one from the Living Puppets brand, but it looks at you with its mouth open and the mouth does not close properly? Then take a look at this video because in this video I will show you how to fix that. How to better shape your puppet's mouth so that it closes better and you have more grip.
Everyone who has a puppet should do so, because an open mouth (a lot of red to see) often leads to fear for the puppet or children who think they are allowed to scream (after all, the puppet also has its mouth open). You can prevent that by performing these two actions before using your puppet.

I am Helen Meurs, author of the book “The Hand Puppet As Pedagogical Tool”, teacher, puppet-o-logist, trainer, coach, inspirator and the founder of the vocational training for hand puppet coach.
The puppet reminds me why I love working with children and I have an instrument with which I can actively shape what I want to pass on to a child.
The puppet as a pedagogical tool is different from the puppet that plays a role in a puppet show or that appears to give a performance or demonstrate a trick. The puppet serves what I want to do with it, what I want to teach children, what I want to pass on and what I want to challenge them to do.
The puppet as an aid is a puppet that is aimed at contact with a child, that actively shapes the relationship with children and that thinks from the child's point of view. The puppet takes on the role of a friend, gives direction, comes up with examples, sometimes literally takes children by the hand and is itself part of a (learning) process.
I control the puppet, but am not part of the conversation or activity my puppet is doing. I sit there, but let my puppet do the work and don't interfere with what happens between my puppet and the child. That provides safety and space for the child to share information with the puppet, or to show sides of herself, which I don't get as an educator.
The educational puppet is therefore a puppet that does not educate, but that collects information that I can use to help and better guide children.
I work with teachers, pedagogical staff, group leaders, children's coaches, play therapists and other care providers of 2 - 8 year old children who want to use a hand puppet as an aid and who want to achieve more INSIGHT, LANGUAGE, CONTACT, ATTENTION, SATISFACTION, PLAYFULNESS through the puppet & PLEASURE.
Working with a puppet in your group, practice or classroom should be practical, appropriate and feasible.
He must be given a place in your daily practice, have conversations, take over a language circle, introduce plans or games, challenge children to push boundaries or try something different for once.
The starting point is always: Learning should be fun and exciting, there should be a reason why children want to participate in your activity. And that is in your own hands.
Do you want to expand your possibilities while using the power of the puppet, without it getting in the way of your program or causing unrest? Then I can help you.
I'm not only working on bringing a puppet to life, but also on:
*How do you deal with a puppet in your group, class or practice?
    *What can the puppet say?
    *When do you use it?
*How do you deal with children's reactions?
*How does the puppet perform an activity?
*What is your role and the role of the puppet?
*What are the dos and don'ts?
