I don't play the mario games that much but I loved the movie and got about 90% of the references. I also loved the familiar relationship between Mario and Luigi. It was believable and I felt like they actually cared about each other.
I definitely think taking critics and audience into account is a decent idea. It really depends on what you’re looking for in a film at the time. There’s a time and place for mindless fun, and for depth and introspection, or delving into new and difficult topics. The former are usually viewed badly by critics, and the latter are often viewed badly by a wider audience. It’s all about balance.
As someone who has a technical education in cinema and is currently in college for language studies (which includes a lot of literature) I usually watch movies with both a critic eye and an audience mindset, Although I always try to leave the critic out during my first watch of anyrhing. And yeah, having a technical understanding of both written and visual storytelling plus being exposed to a lot of media changes how you engage with it so much sometimes is annoying, because you feel like a contrarian. I like some of those movies people find obnoxious and boring because they tickle my critic side but also... my favorite movie is sharknado, cause I still know how to appreciate things that are meant to be mindless fun and I think that's the issue with a lot of critics, judging media by things it never tried to do just because the expectations didn't match the movie's intention and I think "did this movie reach its goal" to be an important part of criticism. (Although I wouldn't be surprised if the current professional media criticism was at least a little controlled by companies just like a lot of things nowadays cause you know... capitalism)
Sharknado spun a genre of cash-grab movies in the same way that Isekai anime exploded in popularity. The original Sharknado film in 2013 capitalized on the public's fascination with sharks and over-the-top disaster movies. While cheaply made, it drew big ratings on Syfy and spawned multiple sequels and spinoffs. Its success inspired numerous made-for-TV knockoffs hoping to capture the same campy magic. So after the first film, I don't believe they were intended to be just for entertainment.
I found the mario movie alright. I really would've loved more breathing room or character moments (Like, more of Luigi, a bit of a better look at Peach, Marios actual insight on things). I came out of it feeling like i just watched a movie lenght commercial with stunning animation, not an actual movie. It's not the masterpiece people say it is (and it doesnt have to be. I like movies that are definetly worse than the Mario movie. I just dont feel he need to defend why i like them) and people rush to justify every single thing because they dont want to be judged or aknowledge that you can like somethign flawed (There are chill people aswell though).
Yeah, I loved that movie. I definitely get it not being for everyone, but it does cover some really important topics, and the realistically “cringe” parts of growing up from a perspective that’s rarely given attention. Divisive and not for everyone , for sure, but still important and definitely not objectively bad.
Just throwing it out there, Turning Red was an amazing movie. Normalize talking about and understanding periods. They’re normal and more people need to understand what happens with them. It’s not taboo, no matter how you identify, they’re important to understand on all fronts.
I was kind of expecting this actually. If you don't know, Nintendo's design philosophy regarding video games is all about fun first, story second. It makes sense that the movie would follow a similar stricture.
Same with me going to MCR concert. Critics were really harsh and at the end they said "but everyone seemed to enjoy it. Maybe the lack of concert due to covid lowered the bar for good concerts". My man it was on of the best gigs ive been to period.
TL;DR: Find a *specific* reviewer that tends to have the same personal tastes as you. That way you can tell if their reviews are going to be more helpful for you specifically, rather than some rando on Twitter who isn't into the same things as you. For example: I played Pokemon Black and White for most of my childhood, so I'm more inclined to trust Pokemon opinions from a RUclipsr who also has the same nostalgic connection. I'm less likely to trust someone who hates Gen 5 for its Pokemon designs, because we just don't have the same tastes.
The mario movie is equally a kid movie and appealing to the generation that played the older Mario games because it is loaded with references and Easter eggs you’ll go 5 minutes maximum without any Easter eggs or references and most 5 year olds didn’t know that Luigi’s ring tone is the GameCube start up jingle
With film reviews you shouldn’t trust critics because they literally get PAID to say bad things about the film but the audience reviews will be more accurate because it’s their PERSONAL OPINION meaning if they really like it then they post a good score so reject critic reviews and embrace audience reviews
I say fans of mario before the movie appreciate and enjoy the movie because they see everything from the first mario game to Odyssey in mario content in one movie, from items and background things to the music. Movie critics won't even know where the music came from, and first, I heard it for the first time Like if you played Mario ( doesn't have to be all, but Odyssey is a big one), Donkey Kong country, Diddy Kong racing/mario kart, you'd appreciate it that much more
Something that bothers me is this one review I found online that had made no logical sense under the critics category. I know it’s just one review, but it still makes me question how the person decided to rate the movie.
People forgot that mario is for kids and I like to take any mario 3ds game box and show them that big "pegi 3" or "pegi 7". I really think that except for the nostalgia trip this movie isn t for adults
Apple versus Android: Not apart of this conflict and am just sticking with both an Apple and Samsung product. Coke versus Pepsi: I don't like either of these. Xbox versus Playstation: Xbox has a LOT of advantages, including letting you buy games to your COMPUTER from the XBOX APP, and storing the Xbox data for the PC. Meaning, Playstation should be a no when you think about buying one.
tbh i never focussed too much on negatives of this movie cause i enjoyed it so idc lol critics are all breaking down why a movie is technically bad when my only criteria is did i enjoy it? and if i did that's good enough for me. and that's probably why it's at 96% regular people don't care about anything but if it's enjoyable or if they liked it.
Does it even say how many of them are critics and how many are the audience? Even if they did, that doesn't mean that the audience isn't critical. People are critical about the games they look forward to and it's the same with movies. People were critical about PLA and Scarlet & Violet.
I also say for me personally i very rarely care about what demographic a movie or show or whatever i made for other than barney and calliou which i feel are the only 2 that ended p being meh to me as i grew up i tend to go in to anything if i enjoy the content regardless of age demographic
I stopped respecting movie critics after I found out they liked The Last Jedi The Last Jedi is my least favorite movie of all time, it was the first Star Wars movie I watched and that movie was so forgettable I barely even remember what happened during the movie, I wouldn't be surprised if I actually fell asleep during the movie and didn't realise, it's a 2 hour sleeping spell
Keep in mind that the scores aren't like average ratings, it's the percent of people giving it a Fresh rating, which only needs to be equal to or over a 6/10. That 97% may look impressive, but it's like being impressed if 97% of a class got a C or above.
Anyone who said "kids movies don't have stories".... They've clearly never seen Up or Inside Out or Toy Story or... shit those are all Pixar movies. Ok how about Wall-E... fuck that's pixar too.... Finding n... crap, not that either... Maybe Lilo &... no that's disney. Goddammit. OH I KNOW! How to Train Your Dragon!! Not disney! Kids movie! AMAZING STORY! Also, Minions were only funny the first movie imo. Certain scenes in 2 were ok... but they went full Madagascar penguin mode on that
I thought the Mario movie was okay. It’s a really good movie if you just don’t have expectations for a really good story. Just turn your mind off and have fun basically.
i kind of agree with the RT score here. This movie was solid 5/10 movie...very average..i am saying as a person who never played a single mario game ever. i have no connection to any characters and movie did not help with that also, felt very flat.
Here's the thing: I really enjoyed some of the last Star Wars trilogy. But I wouldnt say any of them are good movies. They entertained me. I loved the original Super Mario movie. It was TERRIBLE, but I love watching it.
Because critics aren't critics: They're political activists who couldn't get into an actual political news-team, so when they see a movie that goes against their world-view or they deem problematic, they're going to rate it as low as they can get away with while still looking impartial to people not paying close enough attention.
You cross the line, you disrespect Ghostbusters transformers I could handle with care part of the Caribbean, but all the food really cares of pirates of the Caribbean like your existence. No one cares about your existence they just watch for your reactions.
I like watching your videos because it means that I'm not giving matpats "content" views but I still get the bemusement of watching his factory farmed bullshit videos with a health side of entertaining reaction Content.

I found Mario and Luigi's relationship in the movie heartfelt. My eyes watered at a couple of the scenes.

AKA, the movie people hate just because they gave Peach a personality.
True
Faxx
It's not like she didn't have any in the games
@@GucciPucciMIH In the main series games, no.
@@SALTYTOAD00 What exactly is main series? Like 3d world? Because there is a lot of spin-offs that one would consider main series
Man there were some really weird hate on Turning Red in the chat for this reaction. It was seriously distracting.

12:45 I’ve never seen Patterz Be So Excited About any topic or game or movie. Happy it’s Puss in Boots The Last Wish that got him excited

With how often you end up saying something before Matpat says it, I feel like you should collab with him on something some day.
13:37 Did MatPat. Just call. Kung Fu Panda. "Kids fodder"?!
Don't start.
These videos of yours are awesome and i love them!

22:15 Uncomfortable topic... WHY, exactly?
I liked cranky kong's voice actually
I ate alot before the movie and fell asleep for a minute during that high speed chase scene :P
5:02 Because Mario killed their grandmas, okay?
I think the critics watched the 1993 Mario movie instead

well its funny critics didn't like afterlife cause the one critic i follow liked ghostbusters 2016 when tbh to me afterlife was better

Hey, the first Pirates Of the Caribbean was great...the rest of them are still good at least
16:14 Wait, people didn't like Us??

Bro Jack Black is too good for us, we don't deserve him😂
I can say i have not yet seen the mario movie. Nor have i ever drunk prime. Irrelevant but still.
I watched the live action Lion King movie like over 100 times😵💫🥱
aweasome stream today
I thought the Mario movie was okay. It’s a really good movie if you just don’t have expectations for a really good story. Just turn your mind off and have fun basically.
mario
Lets be real, the only good live action remake Disney's made so far is Dumbo
I really enjoyed the Mario movie, however I thought peach was WAY to overpowered
i kind of agree with the RT score here. This movie was solid 5/10 movie...very average..i am saying as a person who never played a single mario game ever. i have no connection to any characters and movie did not help with that also, felt very flat.
That’s exactly what the video is saying.. I think it was 7/10 but I’ve been playing Mario for YEARS!
Heard of Pixar
Bros just watched the original super Mario bros movie made in 1993
if I was a lost movies, it would be avengers endgame Spider-Man no way home top gun Maverick and John Wick four and your opinion is wrong
Do u know da way?
I mean on the other channel not this one😅
I'm so have you got a 6000 subscribers last time was on the channel you was only out like 2000 or something
Here's the thing: I really enjoyed some of the last Star Wars trilogy. But I wouldnt say any of them are good movies. They entertained me. I loved the original Super Mario movie. It was TERRIBLE, but I love watching it.
Pat... I do love you but saying POTB wasn't that good is just as wrong as liking minions ☠
The last Jedi is one of the most boring movies
Did you just say Top Gun was a good movie? Are you... SURE you aren't American?
Let’s be real, it’s Mario, Mario doesn’t have a deep complex story, and it doesn’t need to to entertain us.
Hi
Hi ayan
Because critics aren't critics:

Never go full GamerGater.
You cross the line, you disrespect Ghostbusters transformers I could handle with care part of the Caribbean, but all the food really cares of pirates of the Caribbean like your existence. No one cares about your existence they just watch for your reactions.
I just don't look at movie theater or just any game theory channel because all of them are bad it's my opinion

Sounds like a lot of words to say "I'm a hater but I still like the content".
Can we give More Patternz and Matpat some love 😽
