Wow, just wow. So fortunate to have lived in his lifetime so that I may listen and experience his raw talent, true master at his craft, legend. R.I.P. professor thank you for your music
Neil Peart was the perfect drummer for Rush. Not only was he a perfect fit for the band, but he also wrote all of the lyrics for the music, and is an all around very good musician. That being said, without a specified platform, there is no greatest drummer. We have bands locally that have nailed covering Rush tunes. If you want to discuss the most technical drummers then you're comparing Thomas Lang, Dave Weckl, Terry Bozzio, and those cats. If you're talking speed then you have George Kolias, Mike Mangini, etc. What Neil has done as well as any drummer is take odd timed phrasings and make them sound interesting... so much so that the average person doesn't even realize that anything is being played in odd time. That is the mark of a really good musician. In the end, I don't really care if someone can play 16th notes at 200 beats a minute (although it is cool to see). How do you make the songs sound... that is what really matters.
+Anthony Yanni Thank you. Finally someone who isn't just a fanboy and bitching about who their favorite drummer is and why Neil Peart isn't "the best". An argument worth agreeing with. Thank you, sir. Hat is off to you.
Neil has an amazing ability to progress the beats and fills throughout the song adding flavor and complexity to the foundation as the song moves forward.
I saw a comment once upon a time that said "You have to either love or loathe the size of that drum kit" and while it was clearly a joke there's a lot of truth to that statement.

Your soul soars rampant through the hearts of beaming musicians, voracious bibliophiles, and in the dreamlines of everyone seeking purpose in life on the blue marble. And yet, your words echo with immortality both in your divine lyrics and in the books that encapsulated your journey on earth. A unencumbered legacy. A serendipitous expedition. A marvelous life unfettered. Time stands still for you in remembrance. May you ever live on, Professor. See you on the other side.
Neil is so good that he can make his drumming look like it was in fast forward
Neil Peart will be remembered forever. He was truly a genius.
Probably did a 20 minute warm back stage before doing the 5 minute performance. He was such a great drummer because he worked hard to get to that level and maintain it.
RIP Neil. My favourite Drummer of all time... Thanks for this upload. Never saw him live -.-
Where was I, when this was on, glad I got to see it now what a treat. Thanks so very much for sharing this with me & the world!¡!!!
To people talking about speed, it doesnt matter, its how is played Neil is a technical drummer, his timing and technical abilities is why he's rated the best.
You are taliking through your ass take a look at the greatest's ever Krupa Velson Rich
And it's like he's telling a story.
@@williamcharlton6341 Why talk shit...Krupa and Rich don't have a solo that approaches this level..AND I'VE SEEN THEM ALL... ya Rich is un-humanly fast, THAT'S IT.... he doesn't tell a story that spans the WORLD.
WAKE UP KID...what Neil is doing here is pure ART.
william charlton you are talking out of your ass! Ringo Starr is the greatest of all time!!
John Bonham! Carl Palmer!
Neil, if there's rock n' roll in heaven...you'll be headlining...go easy bro!
He is in heaven now RIP
@Douglas Bedore Not at all doubtful...just ask.
I'm pretty sure now after doing the Late Night show this guy's career is gonna take off...I'll be looking for great things in the future from him..
😂👏👏
Commentators curse well-done 👏
From day one Rush has been my soulmate band. 1974 I was 14 & three yrs trying to play bass. Then I heard working man I found my influence geddy & Niel Peart. Well John rutsey then in 75 By-Tor anthem man I was obsessed. This is hard to take. Pratt, yer the greatest drummer of all time. R.I.P.
Neil - Will Miss knowing your not with us! You have been a guiding light - Thank you!!!
He was a genius. The world has lost a great man!
A gigantic loss for Rock N' Roll. RIP.
He is no better than a lot of famous drummers. In fact, I wasn't impressed. And would people stop the RIP nonsense? You can't Rest in Peace because you are dead for god's sake. A gigantic loss for rock n' roll? People die and they are forgotten next week.
@Agent J Oh, these glib little sayings!
@@johnkuipers7829 When you die, you will actually be forgotten in the next minute. That's because you are, well... you.
@@LesPaul2006 Same for everybody. Well, we'll all be remembered... for about a day after the funeral/cremation. Maybe longer by loved ones. So I will discount your callous comment, maybe all you'll have is your Lespaul guitar. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
John Kuipers your trippin
I've been in love with him

RIP Neil, thank you for 40 years of musical genius. Your lyrics have changed my life. You’ll me sorely missed🙏
Pure magician on the drums ! Had the absolute pleasure of seeing Rush live twice. The whole band & shows were incredible. Mr Pert's solo in YYZ brought the freaking house down !! OUTSTANDING !!!
Thank you Neil for bestowing upon us your amazing talent & R.I.P.
Happy 64th birthday to Neil Peart; one of the all-time great rock drummers and pride of Canada, eh?
One of the greatest ? Listen to some more Rock n Roll. Cause outside of Rock n Roll only a few give him a run for his $$$$ ! In rock ....it used to be Bonham, Moon ,Bruford ,etc. NOT ANYMORE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He can't play double bass so he sucks
He sucks because he does not play double bass? Haha sureee
there is no drummer on earth and yes not even Bonham or Moon that can shake a candle to Peart...of course their great but Neil is in a class all by himself
he doesnt have to ASS CLOWN
Heard that Neil Peart passed today RIP :-(
Scott W actually it was three days ago on the 7th of January. Simply devastated
Just went to R40 in San Jose. Most amazing solo I've ever seen. He is a god.
San jose!!!! My home town.
+Jake Herington where'd you go to high school?
Cevin Hicks I'm going to Price middle school right now lol. I'm going to Branham, possibly Mitty.
+Jake Herington nice I'm a junior at branham
Cevin Hicks Man it's a small world isn't it.
Unbelievable. I never saw this one originally despite the fact that I'm a big Letterman fan. Neil never ever disappoints.
I was amazed and humbled or whatever to learn that late in his career he was still taking drum lessons. Never stopped learning. What a dude.
The man is a living metronome :)
The nickname "Human Metronome" is already taken....by the late, great Alan Myers of Devo. RIP.
Well if he's dead, the name seems quite available.
& I said "living metronome", not human; at no time did I claim he was human, lmao...he's superhuman.... XD
Matt G Living metronome, human metronome....pretty close. The only difference is when Peart dies, he won't be the "living" anything any more. I guess he'll be the "used to be living metronome."
I'm not superhuman, but I'm SUBhuman... does that count for anything?
I'm pretty sure someone like Neil Peart will live on as a Legend of Rock, just as in vocals, we have such Legends as Freddy Mercury & Brad Delp, & with guitar, Jimi Hendrix & Stevie Ray Vaughan. The list goes on & on, ofc, but yeah, these people live on, for sure...they never really die, because of the impact they had on us, musically, in our lives.
Just to add to his prowess as a drummer, his lyrics will also live on forever
Happy Birthday, Professor.
Farewell to a King. Thanks for all the beautiful music Neil!
Neil the world seems a little empty without you in it! We got to see the joy a great Talent! I don't think will ever see a Talent like his again. R i p Neil..... Your home with Our Father and with your little girl and wife

This is the story of...
Neil Peart!
Rip😭 he will be missed. He was a gift to this world and to rush
God bless you Neil wherever you are. RIP one of the finest and most accomplished drummers of all time!
Anthony Yanni ... Well said and a very fair assessment.
Anthony Yanni yes!! In life Neil is a great guy!!! Not stuck up or a jerk! Very friendly and nice person.
Neil has an amazing ability to progress the beats and fills throughout the song adding flavor and complexity to the foundation as the song moves forward.
Anthony Yanni ASIAA❤ (= You said it, man!)
A shame the poor guy doesn't have more drums in his kit.
~
I saw a comment once upon a time that said "You have to either love or loathe the size of that drum kit" and while it was clearly a joke there's a lot of truth to that statement.
Amazing to remember the sound every drum vibrates.
or cowbell
They ran out of trees.
That thing must have cost a few Canadian dollars
How in the HELL can this have over 800 thumbs down?
RIP Neil.
Say "hi" to my son will ya.
All the people who didn't 'get' Rush.
Possibly thumbs down out of sadness?
So sorry for your loss.
@@chrisclark8916 ...the thumbs down was from all those Bieber fans...LMAO!!!!!
Indeed: WTF.
By far the greatest drummer of all time.
Can't believe 1k people gave this a thumbs down? 🤦♂️
A drum solo just brought me to tears. Neil Peart is the only way that is possible.
The Greatest of all time. RIP NEIL PEART
Another part of childhood gone 😟😢
...a magical childhood, my second ever concert was 'permanent waves'...we are all lucky to have lived in his time, RIP. 😔
@chris Barnett First Rush concert was more memorable.
@chris Barnett That's what she said!
ya they are all dying off!
Tell me about it
And David got the last name pronunciation correct.
40 years his fan and this is the first time I heard it.I always thought it was Pearth pronounced perth
@Matthew Perez Been a fan since 2112 was released and I've always said "Pert"...As have all of my friends. I've never heard it pronounced any other way until now. Damn.... ruclips.net/video/Mq84CpHo9cU/видео.html
Thanks, I was wondering about that, a lot of people say if differently
It's Peart! Not Peart.😂
It's not peart its peart
There will only be ONE Professor. Thanks Neil!
Canada, thank you for sharing Neil Peart with the rest of the world!💖💖💖💖💖💖
so sad about neils death, the bands we grew up idolizing are leaving much too quickly, or im just getting that much older faster than i thought.......may he rip
Rest In Peace Neil. Your influence will never end. 🥁
And if the music stops
There's only the sound of the rain
All the hope and glory
All the sacrifice in vain
(And) If love remains
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price
But we will not count the cost
Rob Sapp Bravado.... 👊🏿
One of the greatest Rush songs!
what a SAPP you are.
Thanks Dave for showcasing one of history's greats.
A true master of his instrument(s) In my life I was priveleged to see him (not forgetting Geddy and Alex) as a band just once. That one time rocked my world more than I can ever say. We have lost a master musician, and I mourn his loss, but may the world never forget him or his outstanding skill. R.I.P. and personally I salute the enjoyment you gave me. Music would not have been the same without you.
Sad day today RIP NEIL ❤️
