You could use a stamp I seen the roller stamps on the stuff you put on walls I bet you could do that with concrete and use regular stamps maybe I don’t no how concrete works oh you could get iod tubes from transfers then get plaster of Paris or concrete and then take a sock and soak it and put it around the tube of iod tube to make vase I seen someone do it with A sock and cardboard I bet you can do it to iod tube
Subscribed. I used turmeric mixed into paint, talc, & baking soda to make a paint color that looks just like terracotta. It goes on yellow but turns terracotta when dry. I love how you used cinnamon & nutmeg to "spice up" your stone look.
I love how you just dive in and do it, I always have it in my head, no you can’t do that you’ll just mess it up. I’m inspired to start diving in...I think!
Your words could actually be mine, exactly to a tee! I'm grateful at least, I'm not alone so, I thank you for your comment. I say, "Let's just do it, like Christina"? 🙋♀️
Great projects! The process of getting texture and shading is so much fun. Just a suggestion on the lampshades--use spray adhesive to get the fabric to lay flat. Also, use seam binding or a bias cut piece of cloth to cover the rough edges at the top and bottom of the shades. It gives it a neater appearance.
I was cleaning out the attic and found an old ginger jar shaped lamp from the 80s/90s? and was thinking of donating it. Then I went online to look at purchasing a new lamp for my studio. I'm so thankful I watched your video. Now I can repurpose my old lamp and it will be perfect for that space. Thank you so much for walking us through this.
When doing a lampshade, you need to iron the fabric first to get the wrinkles out. You can make patterns by applying aluminum foil to the metal cage of the lampshade. You could then sew the edges together, trim them down and pull the fabric over the metal cage. This would also allow you to have contrasting panels simply by choosing different fabrics. Bias tape can create a neat finish on the inside of the shade. I have also used sanded grout left over from a bathroom project to cover lamps. I have enjoyed watching your videos. Thank you for extending my knowledge of paint techniques and for hours of entertainment.
You blew me away with the cinnamon and nutmeg! So enjoying this video! I will definitely be watching this one again as soon as I go find a lamp at my local thrift store! I love lamps that look like stone and they are very expensive. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Hi Lourdes!!! hehe yes the cinnamon and nutmeg was a surprise to everyone!! my living room smells so nice now with cinnamon and nutmeg!!! I have the urge to make apple pie now!!! LOL 😂 Definitely let me know how your lamps turn out when you try this technique!!! ❤️🎨🙏
Would never have thought to use cinnamon or any other spice for this. Great job looking forward to trying something similar and incorporating some of your ideas!
ciao Gabriella !! Grazie!! Sono così felice del risultato che sembra quello reale che vedresti nei costosi negozi al dettaglio! Spero che tu possa provare questa tecnica su alcune lampade o vasi che potresti avere o che puoi acquistare in un negozio dell'usato! Grazie ancora come sempre amico mio !! ❤️🎨🙏
I was so inspired by your tutorials that I went to the thrift store today and picked up 2 lamps to refinish! Can't wait to play! You do beautiful work!
Great tutorial. I was concerned about the powdery spices creating an unstable foundation for the spackle on the small lamp. Nice upgrade. Thx for sharing.
I don’t know what to say, I Love all of your projects and the way you explain everything, even when it is difficult (sometimes)to understand what material you use, or hard to find in Germany!! But I’m soooo happy that I discovered you ❤️
Oh wow Christina!! What A fabulous out come! All that beautiful texture and color with such inexpensive items that you may already have at home! A perfect $600 look made with love and without forking out the money!!🥰 Your just amazing!❤ Thank you for sharing your talent *hugs*
Hi Christina....I love love love what you've done with these lamps, I never thought of using those products on those shiny surfaces....tfs....have a great weekend....Take care....stay safe....
Thank you 🙏 so much Martine for your thoughtful comment and feedback 💙💙 I will definitely be showing more textures ideas and products to create new styles for tons of inspiration 🤗🎨
When I cover a lampshade in fabrics of my choosing I use spray adhesive. Experiment on a sample before using on your chosen item to achieve experience in even application and to understand how to apply fabric quickly as the adhesive almost as cold to touch as hot ice.
I don’t remember the brand. I upcycled my lampshade covers with aboriginal fabrics for my B&B in Central Australia 5 years ago. One thing though, I had to apply the fabric quickly after spraying the lampshade because it was painfully cold to touch. I think you could use any fabric and vinyl spray adhesive and experiment first.
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom Don't use a heavy-duty spray adhesive because the spray could soak through onto your lovely linen. Use a lightweight craft glue, such as Elmer's which you can find online or any craft store.
Your lamp makeovers are perfect for some family heirloom lamps I need to beautify. Now, they will be moved from storage back to where they belong. Right after I make a trip to Lowe's for concrete patch. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and talent.
Hi Redpill! Thank so much for your kind words! Glad to help!! the DAP Dex Spackle is also great to get. I found it dries fast than the concrete patch and cheaper. Give that a try. I am looking forward to sharing next week the finished concrete vase!! ❤️🎨🙏
Love how you covered the lampshades with fabric. Great idea. I'm going to look around for fabric now. Recently moved, and the movers cracked all my lampshades. That's an idea. You are so creative, have so much energy, and are fearless, it's inspirational to me. I'm naturally more reticent, because I'm hard on myself if things don't work out. Thanks for sharing.
Perfectly timed Video! This is also my “Mental Health Break” project today using various glass bottles and vases. Some with texture to resemble aged stone and some smooth finishes for a more modern farmhouse vibe for my daughter.
Hey Tonia!!!!That is so nice to hear you are trying this technique out!!!! Yes this is a good mental health break activity!!!!! Thanks again and see you next week! ❤️🎨🙏
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom: Yes! Although, I use the Baking Soda mixed into my Chalk Paint method for quick texture and painting, then I use Dixie Bell Dirt or a combo mix of Cinnamon and powdered chocolate for aging/distressing. I got five projects started, one completed with the remaining drying. It was a peaceful day. 😁
I have watched a TON of similar videos before attempting this stone effect and this is the BEST one I’ve seen.. wow! I love how you blended those beautiful colors over the dark base to create it…. GORGEOUS .. thank you! 🤗
An absolutely brilliant use of materials to reuse/rescue lamps that might have been thrown out, even by the thrift store. Two thoughts: What about using dry milk paint if you wanted a wide color variation than just the cinnamon. Also what about using a steamer to shrink the linen so it will be tighter to the lampshade form; it would look more professional. I would love to see you cover an old lampshade with handmade gift wrap? Thank you for the time and creativity you devote to your videos.
Hi Ann!!! Great ideas!!! I have have several requests for milk paint!!!! I will be doing one in the near future!! Thank so much for your suggestions it's very helpful!!! ❤️🎨🙏
