I'm happy I found your channel, Dr. Pete. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea two years ago. My sleep apnea is gone after two months of adopting a grain-free diet, and then a carnivore lifestyle of eating. Best thing I could've done for my health.

Even though your sleep has improved (Congratulations!) I would still get tested because it could still be around as a mild condition.

Thank you Dr. Pete for the great work you are doing to help us understand why gout flares happen. Acquiring comprehensive information about gout is not easy, especially in the context of keto adaptation. You’re a godsend!
I’m 37, and I’m about 6-7 weeks into strict keto and IF. It isn’t my first time to do strict keto, but in previous attempts, I have ended up falling off the wagon. I notice however that whenever I do strict keto, I get a gout flare about a month or so into it, and sure enough, it is happening now, which led me to your channel.
Higher ketone levels, which I measure with the keto-mojo, can lead to a backup of uric acid. However, the real trigger for my current flare, I believe, was a mistake I made in eating a bunch of blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries in one sitting. I believe the spike in sugar (fructose) triggered this flare. “Cheat days” are a big no-no for those of us susceptible to gout flares!
I’m almost two weeks into this current gout flare, which seems long to me, so I’ve started to lessen my fasting, I’ve started to incorporate the warm foot baths, and I’m consistent with the ibuprofen now. The pain is definitely subsiding, but it hasn’t fully recovered yet. Hoping to see some results soon.
Keep up the good work you’re doing, Dr. Pete!

This video is totally worth watching, a very thorough presentation of the causes and gout as a symtom, armed with this info I feel more hopeful about the possibilty of being gout free and dealing with prediabetes. The 'consistent keto/low carb' message is especially helpful, I realise I need to change my mindset about weekend eating, after getting through the working week I want to treat myself to a block of dark chocolate and a gluten free biscuit and other processed foods but working on changing that now with God's help.

I am 76 and I have never drunk alcohol, nor ever eaten any organ meats, fish or seafood. I am strict ketovore now for 4 months. I eat meat, chicken, pork, eggs, dairy, small amts of berries, greens. some peppers, avocados, no sugar, zero cheating. Some days I eat OMAD, from no appetite. I have lost 40 pounds since going ketovore. Uric acid is higher than before ketovore...10.1 today. I am having severe gout flairs, now also in my elbow, which affects only 4% of gout sufferers. I must start on colchicine and allopurinol to save my joints and control pain. I tried all the natural approaches you mention..no change. My A1C is normal and BP has normalized. I have stage 3 kidney disease. Gout pain is debilitating. I don''t know what to do more than I am now.

insightful... started keto 3 months ago after being diagnosed as T2D, just had a crippling flare up (first in a long time) which you explained rather well is a cause of the metabolism changing. As such I can expect a lowering of my Uric Acid levels. I had a roast pork on Sunday which i was dreading the flare up which didn't come. I've always refused the meds because, like you say - it only treats the symptom. You have validated my thoughts - thank you for sharing!

eGFR, can also be low when creatinine is high which if you vigorously resistance train, is likely to happen because it is in inverse relationship to eGFR, which is a calculated value.

yeah eFGR isn't very reliable if you train and use creatine (even 3g a day)

I've been getting what I think to be gout in my right foot the last couple months. Timed with my third time on keto, going great aside from that. The only thing different this time I can think of is that I have been having a good amount of Xylitol in coffee as my only sweet treat and I feel somewhat addicted so I've cut it now for stevia to see if anything happens (only been 2 days). And this is after over 30 years on carbs and sugar and over 20 years drinking alcohol and never had anysign of gout.
Also what do you think of Dr Darren Schmidt's video on gout and the supplements he recommends to flush the kidneys? (AC Carbamide and Arginex)? 🤔

    • @peterdelannoy
      @peterdelannoy 4 месяца назад

Gout can happen at the beginning of keto because of the acute rise in ketones which compete with UA for excretion at the level of the kidney. Gout flares are most possible when UA is fluctuating up or down rather than average concentration.

  • @sugarandfoodaddiction9868
    @sugarandfoodaddiction9868 7 месяцев назад +1

I think its combinatorial: alcohol, fructose, umami, etc. Anything that can open Fructose/UA.

Slowing weight loss has been part of my key strategy to hold UA in manageable levels. But…
Dang… the visceral fats hang on until white adipose tissues drop. I’m at that low white but high in visceral.
I’m at the stage to use allopurinol to buffer against the quicker weight loss.

The Lord Jesus Christ revealed to me the cause and treatment of Gout. If the prescription below cures or substantially helps you please give the our King Jesus Christ credit for your healing.
    Cause of Gout:
    1) Gout pain is specifically caused by a restriction of blood flow through the feet, ankles, or anywhere pain is experienced. Uric acid causes the crystals that initiate the pain, but it is the reduced or lack of blood flow that actually facilitates what we know as a gout attack.
A good analogy is a forest fire. A forest fire doesn't start because lightning strikes a tree or a electrical pole creates a spark, but a forest fire starts because the ground and leafs are very dry and dehydrated, and thus, facilitates the rapid spreading of the fire. In the case of gout, Uric acid is the spark and lack of blood flow and dietary issues are the kindling.
    Dietary Treatment Of Gout:
    1) Eliminate salt completely from your diet
    2) Eliminate sugar completely from your diet
    3) Eliminate alcohol completely from your diet
    4) Reduce or eliminate processed carbohydrates from your diet
    5) Drink 1 to 1.5 liters of water daily
    Therapeutic Treatment of Gout:
    1) Get a therapeutic full body massage 3 times weekly of at minimum 60 minutes
    Cardiovascular Treatment or Gout:
    1) Do aerobic exercise at minimum 3 days weekly for at least 60 minutes
    2) Stretching and not sitting for extended periods of time is encouraged
    3) When sitting try to keep you legs elevated and extended
    4) Try simple ankle exercises throughout the day to keep blood circulation
    Pharmaceutical Treatment of Gout:
    1) Reduce or eliminate the use of blood thinner medications
    Spiritual treatment of Gout:
    1) Always pray to Jesus Christ for healing and understanding (most important)
