  • Agave Fox tail Century plant in full bloom. This plant only blooms once every thirty years. This video was taken over a 6 month period while this awesome plant bloomed in the end it died but was wonderful while it bloomed. "When the flower blooms the bees come uninvited" Agave attenuata is a species of agave sometimes known as the lion's tail, swan's neck, or foxtail for its development of a curved inflorescence, unusual among agaves. Native to the plateau of the State of Jalisco in central Mexico, as one of the unarmed agaves, it is popular as an ornamental plant in gardens in many other places with subtropical and warm climates.

They have/had never bloomed in the entire time we have had the house wich is since 1989 (25 years now). which makes this really cool. Gonna take pics with my kids so they can show their kids. Its an awesome natural experinence. Im gonna do a daily pic at 5pm until it dies methinks.

    If you cut it off the flower after flowering you will get lots of new babies on the stem or stork of the plant which you can pick off and replant before the base dies off

      The one on my roof top terrace is flowering; should I cut the stem off then? Great tip! And what about the seeds? All I'm getting are very meagre versions of the flower; I dont seem to be able to identify seed pods or seeds... any info welcome... I really loved my huge agave! / writing from Argentina/no info here)

      @@veronicarubens1547 wait for flowering to finish, there will be thousands of seeds on the stem after you cut it. Can replant. Mine is also almost ready for this.

    I just moved into our rental which isn't more than 5 years old. We have one of these and a coupe months ago, the blooming began. I'm not a plant guy so I had no clue about it, but was concerned that the plant looked like it was dying. I now appreciate it a lot more knowing how long it takes to flower. The pedestal is maybe twice at long than this in the video, it's almost touching the ground. It say maybe 3.5m long or more

    My agave Americana 3 yrs in a pot produced a huge flower stem and then the entire plant died. I’m curious if your plant also died afterwards.

    • @TomLeeman
      @TomLeeman  4 года назад +1

      The pups live but that stem will wither and die

    • @AceOfSpadesX
      @AceOfSpadesX 3 года назад +1

      Yep, the plant is monocarpic which means it always dies after flowering. It will have offshoots that continue to live though
