i disagree. he had already ensured that the name Ivar the Boneless would live on in history. why would he then cry and say “I’m afraid?” it’s because he realized that he actually was afraid of dying. and that he had been spent his life building up an illusion of a fearless, ruthless man that in fact never existed. that’s why Hvisterk reassured him that he wouldn’t tell anyone…he would keep Ivar’s fear a secret from the world so that the world would remember only the warrior
For those of you that don't understand he says he can't be killed because he's already written in history and he's right, the man died nearly 1200 years ago and we still talk of him, therefore he's not gone.
This acting throughout this scene and the series as a whole has been unmatched and I have to say this show is by far my favorite due to characters such as Ragnar, Ivar, and Floki. Such a great story and show!
@The Stranger It was the intimidation factor of the 7th, 8th, and 9th century. People didn’t initially believe in him but quickly realized how brutal and ruthless he was making him feared across the world. The stories people would have told of how a cripple conquered these territories and lands through a new style of battle would get anyone excited or scared. Alex Hogh Anderson did a wonderful job in this role being conflicted with his disability but also harnessing that into a feared opponent. He acted as if he was never scared but in reality he was but he hid that to allow the people to believe in him and fight with no fear. Yeah the yelling and screaming can be annoying but that’s the character he took on to bring others up. I think Alex really got into the character and showed great emotion in many scenes that was unmatched compared to his brother. You could see this also in many scenes with Bjorn and Hvitserk how they took on their character. The acting all around was incredible.
