We just got a travel trailer with the dual outlets which I don’t like at all. Really excellent job of explaining everything needed to change over to a single. Thanks!
I just took a trip with our new 5th wheel and I had originally thought to myself that having additional galley drain was no big deal, man it sucks!, I thought to myself why did they not just connect the 2 together, your modification is awesome and your video is even better!!, great content, right to the point, very clear and easy to understand great job!!!!

Thanks for the inspiration! I just recently accomplished the project for my keystone Laredo. Couldn’t have done it without this video. Best mod I’ve done to the trailer! 🤙🤙🤙
A couple weeks ago I did a combining of our rear Graywater into the front Graywater sewer line. I love it, no longer do I need to connect to one drain, empty it, then move my rig forward and dump the rear tank. It took some doing, but I was able keep my Grey separated from the Black. So now, I hook up one drain line, dump the Black, then dump the Grey for flush out. This is something the factory should do. If I were to do it from the start, it would add 10' of pipe and about 4 fittings. Whereas, doing this as a refit took the same amount of pipe, but way more fittings as some of the existing had to be cut out and replaced for the combining. I was able to get the proper fall. If you have two Gray tanks, do yourself a favor, and combine them.
I have the same floor plan only the 274bh from Chaparral. This modification is a game changer. Being back to one single hose and not fighting the water in and out of the Wye connector is worth its weight in gold.
Best mod writeup ever... Planned on doing this day one once I saw my trailer had two outlets and this video helped me confirm my suspicion if it's possible.....Can't wait to do this
I have watched your videos for years. When I saw you picked up the same trailer I had (28BH), I was thrilled! I knew great stuff would come from it! Love all you do Jared! Keep it up.
Great idea and plan this myself. One thing to consider regarding the required slope for proper drainage, if you're at a dump station and still on your truck, you may not be able to dump the rear gray tank. Or at least, not fully. OTOH if you don't have the slope, you can still do this mod but just lower the landing gear to dump the rear. Another method for this I have considered is using a macerator pump to pump the rear gray tank into the black tank as a flush. You could use flexible hose rather than rigid plumbing so no slope would be required.
Thanks for the idea! This is an awesome mod. I have a front galley discharge in addition to my rear black and grey tank discharge, and it is more of a pain than I thought it would be, especially if there's a line at the dump station. This is something that I might have to tackle.
Another benefit is with the Gate Valve on the exit you can open the two gray tank to valves to equalize them if one is prematurly full. Good if you are boon docking to get a little extra time out there...
Great stuff... I'm not handy AT ALL but this is definitely something I'd love to do for our Travel Trailer - I don't like the "Y" adapter for two hoses, so we end up just disconnecting one and reconnecting to the other... super annoying. Love your "how to" videos, they're some of the best out there!
Another way to check the fall is with a level. If you have at least a 1/2 to full bubble of fall, that should be enough. One suggestion I might make because of the length where it comes down and out of the frame would have been to put on a junction with a clean out cap so if for some reason a clog happened, it would make an easy way to clean the clog using a pipe snake. Especially if that extra run comes off of the kitchen because of possible grease buildup over time. One thing to keep in mind when passing over the axle, pay attention to how much travel the suspension has when hanging the pipe underneath like this because if it hangs too low, the axle could break the pipe if the suspension travels too far. To check it you could pile up a few blocks and pull one set of wheels up on the blocks if you have tandems until the suspension hits the stop and measure how much space you have between the top of the axle and the bottom of your camper. You don't want to accidentally break off the pipe in cases of extreme suspension travel because it can happen quite often when pulling in and out of spaces in the event the tire drops off into a ditch.
Reading your post I have a few questions. First the clean out, if I was to add a clean out prior to the bend towards the axels, what will prevent the water from sitting in that area? 2, how much room in general would I need to be above the axels? Thanks, plan on doing this in the next few weeks.
I really like this project and been thinking about it a while. I had to open the underbelly for a couple other projects so I think we are going for it while it’s accessible
I so want to do this to my RV. Ours has a separate grey tank valve and a black tank valve and i wish they would've made the grey tank flow to the black tank valve so there would only be one connection. Great video and I can't wait to try getting this done on my RV as well. Thank you!
This is awesome Jared! Great idea! We recently got the same trailer for our family and this would be nice time and complexity saver at setup/teardown. Definitely going to do this soon! Hi Jared, Hope you don’t mind me asking a lithium battery question. I recently purchased a 100 amp hour battle born 12 V battery as well as another 200 amp 12 V battery as I live in Florida and I’m kind of trying to do an emergency system in case of a power outage due to hurricane or grid problem. I also recently purchased the inergy flex system w/extra battery for running my rv which we stay in a couple weeks at a time on our property in NC. My question is even though I know switching my RVs lead acid marine battery to the battleborn lithium won’t be ideal for charging for to maximum...Do you think it will harm the battery long term as I think it will easily cover our 12v needs at the trailer even without using the flex system. Sorry for the long explanation
How much clearance is needed over the axle for the pipe ? I'm doing this now and to get the fall I need , I've only got about 4 inches . Not sure if that's enough .

Hey Jared, we have a 311bhs. Dual outlet like yours but the rear is also a black tank for the rest bathroom. Do you think this mood would work too reroute a black tank as well? Or only if it's a great tank.
Great mod But,,, you forgot to mention that now while boondocking you have increased your grey capacity, as the galley by itself usually has hardly anything in it whereas your grey for shower etc always fills up and limits your staying time!! Now just put ur external valve on, open both grey tanks and you have more capacity!!!! To me the most important benefit of doing this mod! This for your vids, they are really good!
Walt How did he increase his capacity. To me all he did was redirect his sewer drain. I didn’t see how he combined the tanks unless I missed it. I only ask because I’m getting ready to do the same thing and I was curious about your comment. Thank you
@@johnnyg8391 I am curious too. I assume that when one tank is full, the water will travel up the pipe to the other tank, thus increasing your capacity. Say for example your shower tank is full, the water than flows to the galley tank. Am I correct?
@@oldbiker57 I guess if you ran the pipe inside the underbelly that way but from the way I see the diagram, he angles the pipe from the back tank and drops it to the main drain on the front. It’s funny because I studied this video like 100 times. I just finished buying all the material to do the same thing however only to eliminate the two drains making it easier to dump into 1.
Wouldn’t this make your tanks brown tanks instead of black or grey tanks? I don’t think I’d want the germs that can navigate anywhere to make their way into my sinks. I’d say sanitation is why the factory doesn’t combine the two in most cases.
I've got a Lance 1081. It comes with both tanks combined. Problem with mine is the grey water valve cable is pretty long so I don't get a full open and I don't think it closes all the way because I have a slow leak between dumps that collects in the dump valve cap. I've wanted to get video of what it looks like when it opens and closes. I wonder if the Kaiser proctology dept could help me out with that. I mean, I'm spending all that money every month for medical insurance anyway. Least they could do is check out my dump tank...
Our Reflection has a 2nd half bath and two dumps. The front dump handles two gray tanks and the black tank while the back dump is for the outside kitchen and the half bath sink and toilet. Unless we didn't use the half bath toilet, I wouldn't be comfortable using 2" ABS pipe. Would your RV have had enough fall using the full size pipe that is factory installed or is that why you used the 2" pipe?
On this Refection the back tank is just grey. You can see at 1:48 in the video that the pipe is 2" coming out of the tank. (It is even a 2" valve at the tank.) Then it goes to 3" for the connection to the hose. I hope that helps see the differences.
@@billb6121 One thing to keep in mind is if you have to pass over the axle below the frame, make sure you pay attention to how much travel the suspension has so if it ever hits the stop it won't crush the pipe.
@@johnnyg8391 You have to find the bumpstops and see how close they are to the frame and then measure the distance. If you have a tandem axle, you could probably build something up that's high enough to reach the full travel of the walking beam and put one set of tires up on it to see how close the axle gets to the frame when it reaches the bumpstop.
Hi, I follow your channel a lot and value your opinion and would like to ask if you have reviewed or have any thoughts about the Lippert Components 389380 RV 360 Siphon Tank Vent Cap - Black
Did you have any issues using a 2" pipe as far as blockage? I have a Keystone Cougar 5th wheel and I was thinking of doing something similar as we have an aft galley. Thanks,
No with it just being galley we haven’t had any problems and is the typical pipe for kitchen plumbing. We have had it this way for months now with no problems. Side note we never let grease down the drain.
Just install a clean out connection so if you do get a blockage, it gives you a way to snake it out. Even if you don't put grease down the drain, you can still get a buildup because you can't stop all grease from going down because you always have residual grease. But either way, install a clean out just in case.
Being so knowledgeable about all things RV -- I love your videos -- would you happen to know the actual ingredients of "Happy Campers Extreme Holding Tank Cleaner?" I bought a container and am trying it out in our RV but, curiously, nowhere on the label, or on their website, do they list the ingredients. They simply describe it as "organic," "biodegradable," and "environmentally friendly." Some people say it's nothing but high-priced Trisodium Phosphate (TSP). 16 oz of TSP at Lowes costs $5. The 18 oz of "Extreme" I got on Amazon cost me $34. Wonder if you or anyone in your community might know what this white powder actually is. Thanks.
Forgot to say that I had to rotate the fresh water valve handle 90 degrees, pointing it toward the rear of the trailer because it was in the way of the 1 1/2" pipe coming from the rear of the trailer.
Did you spray paint various things to black? It looks like 100% professional products that came in black already, but I'm suspecting that isn't the case, such as pipe hangers/straps, etc..
Jared, thank you--so many of your videos have been helpful to me! I'd love to combine the two sewer outlets on my Grand Design, but I'm not sure it's feasible. I've measured as you suggested, and I only have 1/8" of fall per foot (2 inches across a 16' span). Do you think this may still work, or am I out of luck?
I noticed you moved the sewer hose storage to the back could youd do a video on where you mounted it. I need to move mine too but I'm a little nervous on finding the right spot. Love the videos!
John it’s super easy. Order the rec pro rv off Amazon. The under belly of the rv has a frame that looks like a capital I. Stretch out the pipe that’s expandable, get you some stainless steel screws , pre drill and attach.
Have a couple questions on installation. Hope you can help. Am I seeing this right, you disconnected all original piping from galley and installed your configuration? You no longer have a “open/close valve to your galley tank? You cut into main sewer line to install the sweep from galley?
@@johnnyg8391 I had pvc running from the shut off valve but mine runs on the outside of the wheel well and I had to remove it when moving trailer. I’m going to change and run it from sink and bypass the tank. Good luck
What foam do you use to re-seal the underbelly holes? I am currently trying to locate a leak under my trailer and will need to replace some foam I've scraped away while trying to find this leak.

Now just put ur external valve on, open both grey tanks and you have more capacity!!!! To me the most important benefit of doing this mod! This for your vids, they are really good!
Great point and great benefit!
Mine has a half bath in back too. Might look and see about the tank connection. See no reason why if it all fits, use 3" pipe and replicate.
@@billb6121 One thing to keep in mind is if you have to pass over the axle below the frame, make sure you pay attention to how much travel the suspension has so if it ever hits the stop it won't crush the pipe.
@@KevinBenecke how do you check and see how much room you have?
@@johnnyg8391 You have to find the bumpstops and see how close they are to the frame and then measure the distance. If you have a tandem axle, you could probably build something up that's high enough to reach the full travel of the walking beam and put one set of tires up on it to see how close the axle gets to the frame when it reaches the bumpstop.
More plumbing videos please
Did you change the pipe being protected from cold weather?
No it still has the same protection it did before because we didn’t move any valves. The valves are still in the protected underbelly.
Hi, I follow your channel a lot and value your opinion and would like to ask if you have reviewed or have any thoughts about the Lippert Components 389380 RV 360 Siphon Tank Vent Cap - Black
So would this void the warranty?
They won’t warranty the new pipe I did but it won’t void my warranty on the RV. ruclips.net/video/eI481Kob4ys/видео.html
@@AllAboutRVs Thank you! This is now on my must due list between trips.
Just install a clean out connection so if you do get a blockage, it gives you a way to snake it out. Even if you don't put grease down the drain, you can still get a buildup because you can't stop all grease from going down because you always have residual grease. But either way, install a clean out just in case.
If you're in the Midwest or South East of the states most local home centers should have abs. Less common in New England and out West though.
Very nice
Thanks
Thanks.
Is 2" or 1.5" pipe used? I'm confused lol
Mine was originally 3. I think is reduced it to like 2.5 but the Illustration he’s using tiny pipe to show you how he did it
Forgot to say that I had to rotate the fresh water valve handle 90 degrees, pointing it toward the rear of the trailer because it was in the way of the 1 1/2" pipe coming from the rear of the trailer.
Did you spray paint various things to black? It looks like 100% professional products that came in black already, but I'm suspecting that isn't the case, such as pipe hangers/straps, etc..
Yes I painted the straps and hangers.
Was the pipe originally 3 inches and you reduced it? Getting ready to do this mod and thought it had to remain 3 through out?
Have a couple questions on installation. Hope you can help. Am I seeing this right, you disconnected all original piping from galley and installed your configuration? You no longer have a “open/close valve to your galley tank? You cut into main sewer line to install the sweep from galley?
I was thinking of leaving that open close valve and continuing from there
@@johnnyg8391 I had pvc running from the shut off valve but mine runs on the outside of the wheel well and I had to remove it when moving trailer. I’m going to change and run it from sink and bypass the tank. Good luck
What foam do you use to re-seal the underbelly holes? I am currently trying to locate a leak under my trailer and will need to replace some foam I've scraped away while trying to find this leak.
Haven't bought it yet but found it at Menards. Great Stuff black spray.
I have used Great Stuff Pest Block. It is grey and matches well.
Where did you get the gray spray foam. I just finished taking the whole belly pan out of my 2016 303RL Reflection and redoing everything from wiring to plumbing because one of the slide motors went out. From the factory, it’s a rat nest underneath. Like your videos and love doing upgrades like you do. Also waiting on your update on the multi plus 2. We love Boondocking. Already have lithium batteries and was getting the multi plus 1 when I saw your video. Put it on hold until I see what you have to say about it. Our rig is 50amp and this would be a perfect upgrade. Bought a progressive dynamics lithium charger for now. Keep the videos coming. Thanks for the info.
I used regular spray foam and after it dried I used flat black spray paint
Great Stuff Pest Block is what I have used. It is grey.
@@Sparkin8r Thanks.
Now, why doesn’t Grand Design do it this way to begin with!!!!🤔
My underbelly is enclosed, so this would be a difficult mod
Yes that is the hardpart

I say keep your sh!t isolated instead of keep your sh!t together! Pun intended 🤪
Would really be better if you actually did the work you b are describing. Too wordy not enough seeing the work done.😢
that is an awesome idea thank you for sharing.
