Alternatively don't take the lot apart just do as per Gigaset instructions which is to "We recommend that you perform a Power On Reset. Remove the batteries from the handset and reinsert them after about 10 seconds. Please also disconnect the power supply of the base and router from the mains for 10 seconds. This procedure restarts the software in the handset and base station." This worked perfectly for me.
I love tearing things apart, but you are right that would have made more sense but then again, this was fun and interesting and it provided you with some tips on how to open your base station 😉
