Prayers for you and Penny. My girl Dottie is so leash reactive she never gets to go anywhere. My vet has me bring her in the side door of their office to avoid other animals. I can’t imagine what you go through.
Yup you made me cry also. I look forward to seeing how the training works out. Going through with that training is the most caring loving thing you could do for your dog. I have two corgis, one reactive. After my last trip (not full-time) I actually had thoughts of selling my van. (That passed quickly) Now you have inspired me to put in the hard work with my trainer, and keep doing whatever to help her be comfortable around other dogs. Thank you for sharing your experiences about this ❤
My heart broke for you and Charlie. But in the long run, I believe you made the best choice.😊 And once your all reunited…there will be so much peace and joy! Wishing you and the pups all the best.❤❤❤
Awww, that had me in tears and I know Penny is back with you, lol! You made a great but hard decision to help you and Penny. Great job fixing the fridge drawer! All the best to you and your sweet pups! ❤😊❤
I'm so glad you took Penny for training. Not everyone will / can go that extra mile for a dog. We appreciate you! ❤❤❤ I'm glad you refrigerator door s fixed well done!!
@girland2vandogs our female dog, also has sociolizing issues with other dogs. Love people, but terrible with other dogs. Our 2nd dog is a very submissive and layed back guy, and luckily, that works for us. But socializing with other dogs is just not possible. Good luck!!! We hope the help you got her makes a huge difference
Penny is so lucky to have a dog-mom so loving and willing to take whatever steps ensure her happiness and trust in the world around her. ❤ You must miss her terribly. Great job on the refer slider drawer! Sure looks like it's stronger than ever. Love your resourcefulness. God how I hate accidentally bumping the galley faucet. Shouldn't they have a lock on them to prevent accidental cussing, fussing, and cleanup?
Thought about bloopers at the end to show all of my bleeped out cursing but decided the video was already long enough haha. I swear if this drawer breaks again….
Wow Erica, sometimes I feel like we are living parallel lives somewhat. I am going through something very similar. My youngest pup (a rescue at 6 mos) is highly leash reactive. We had so many hurdles that we have just been taking issues one at a time and the leash reactivity was the easiest to manage (and by manage I mean create situations in order to avoid or minimise crises, though far from ideal. You gotta do what you gotta do) So we just went on a trip for a week with both dogs and we are two people managing a large Breed (120 pound Swissy) and my small 40 pound Border. We noticed that all the work in lots of other areas have really paid off and that makes us super happy. Not perfect but a lot of progress. But nothing shows you the truth about your dog like hikes on trails with other people coming out of nowhere. And yes, off leash dogs are cool and all (for YOU and YOUR DOG) but if you dog is running at my dog it's NOT cool at all and my dog will lose his sh**. Trails are hard to manage in general, you can't always get off the trail to avoid confrontations. Loose dogs are a nightmare. End of story: my dog got bit by another dog (not on a trail) Unlike my Swissy, the pup does not back down in a fight and has zero chill when in confrontations. He's fine now, the other dog is fine too (he was a jerk but he's not a bad dog, it was a complicated situation) but we see all the red flags on the horizon now and we KNOW that if we plan to be outside of our comfy bubble at home (we are in the process of purchasing a van to build out, but not for full-time van life) we have to act now. I realise now it will not get better on it's own. It will not improve with the training stuff I am doing. It will get worse. Luckily we have a lot of trainers in the area and I am taking your advice: Before travel, not during not after. Now. I am impressed that in America trainings with boarding are attainable. (here it costs the same for several weeks of boarding/ training as a van. It's insanely expensive and we could never afford it!) But Erica, you really broke my heart with the pic of Penny's leach in the cushion next to the driver's seat. 🥲 Of course you are doing the right thing for both of you: she doesn't like being leash aggressive either. Both of you stressed out all of the time (trust me, I KNOW how it feels) I can't wait for her to come back and see all the improvements! Here's to her success in training! 🥂
I wouldn’t say it’s attainable. But at this point, I can’t afford to NOT do it. Thank you for saying all of this. So many people have reactive lives and if everyone followed leash rules, I think things would be a lot easier. Hugs to you and yours ❤️
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on training. I inherited an older dog, Zia. She’s a sweet girl, but has a lot of anxiety around unknown people or dogs. I’ve brought her on camping travels, but now leave her with my daughter. Both Zia and daughter are happier that way. Best of luck with Penny, you are a wonderful dog mom.
I believe you made the right decision for Penny. I know it's hard to be separated right now, but the training will put your mind at ease once she's back with you and Charlie. Your love for the two of them is evident. I'm excited to see how this training helps.
@@girland2vandogs a win is a win! I could never tell how my old dog would react to other dogs and people so erred on the side of caution. Looking forward to the reunion!
Oh Erica, it's one of the hardest things ever to let a pet go....remember is only for a short time, just focus on when he returns to you...just think how much fun he is having while he learns....I feared the worse at the beginning of this video but by the end I was happy he is getting the help he deserves 🙏🐶
I had to have Chelsea put down i cried for days, i was 30 in college full time days, worked at a psych hosp full time 2nd shift, left her with my mom alot, the guilt i wore was sooo painful then i truly felt i neglected her, then she bit my face before i went to work as i went to kiss her goodbye at my moms..i just could not go thru that again....my goal in van life is to have zero responsibilities even with ppl..ive heard it aall seen it all, as. A burnt outs o ial worker. I swear as soon as i meet a female i usually detect a feeling in mwe of how aelf centered ppl are..plus the covert narcissist girls seen to find me..i see it fast and no thank you..life.. solo is so much easier..very sorry for you and any negative feelings you are having..Dave
You’re an awesome pet parent and you absolutely did the right thing, as hard as it is/was. Our first job is to protect our pets and do right by them. And you did. And deferring to expert trainers is commendable. We all can’t be experts in everything. 🙏😚🙇♂️🖤🤎
Now penny's on a little break you going to try and talk to someone if you get the chance. Your channel is growning more and more I tell any one who listen to me to follow you still loving the vids love from wales uk.
Girl you had me going i thought Penny was getting put down it was hard watching the video I've had 2 kids 14 & 16 year old Chihuahua that hurt, then seeing Penny given away to a stranger that hurt enough, not sure if i could do that to Hershey. But in all hope penny gets and does better.

Hard to let her go but it’s like doggy summer camp, where penny’s made a bunch of friends and learned a couple of cool new hobbies.
Friends might be a stretch for Penny 😂 but if she could just learn how to accept that someone says hi to her, that’s a win hahaha
