    Regarding skins; kuro games already does grindable skins from leveling the character up which adds more accessories or clothing patterns. Then there are paid skins which are radically different.

      I honestly don't think "modified" and "final" skins will be present in WW

      You know what's the worse thing about the whole skins discussion with that dude in the video? That League skins were indeed not free at the beginning, they implemented the boxes AFTER the skins have already drain everyone off their money.
      His whole take was flawed from the start, just after years of legendary skins giving them money is that they gave everyone a chance to get them for free.

      At face value most character designs are bland which makes sense cause practicality over style especially since we are in a apocalypse setting. 1.0 Genshin was created by Hoyoverse when they were barely even getting a hundred thousand dollars per month with Honkai Impact 3rd. That's why it was bad if you cared about meeting the characters. (I love the story because I care more about the overall world building than the characters we play as, that's just me personally tho). Inazuma was their first dabble in making more islands and story with the money they earned, and then Sumeru was when they were actually able to FULLY utilize their billions they earned AND even more so in Fontaine. Hoyoverse said the story was made a few years in advance, so that's probably why they weren't able to properly redo Inazuma in time with their new earnings, but they were able to do so with Sumeru and Fontaine.

    Another thing I like about WW is that switching character feels smooth. I hate how in Genshin very often you get hit with the notification telling you character can't switch in some state like gliding, swimming, jumping, mid character animation and sometimes even standing around an uneven surface also stops you from switching character.
    In WW you can switch character very smoothly and at any time. Yea we can switch character mid air or while climbing. It's so smooth and prevent any switch delay. Switching character off won't cancel the animation early, instead they kinda linger around for awhile to let the animation finish before disappearing.

      Fun fact you can actually even use the QTE mechanic to parry and dodge attacks with certain characters which adds way more depth. This is especially apparent when you are playing a ranged character because they are projectile attacks and not hit scan it can be tricky to parry outside of QTE or Echos. Some of the ranged characters actually have mechanics that make them less reliant on parries.

    About the skin thing:
    PGR already does both
    First you have the ones you get from uprgading the characters, which only change them slightly.
    But then you have the paid premium skins which almost always change the whole aesthetic of the character.
    Then you have grinddable event skins, which they only do every once in a while (and you have premium event skins too)
    Then you have the skins which you can buy with a grindable currency in the game. It's a pretty long grind, but you have pretty good skins there. Normally the skin which came with the caracter gets added to that shop after a while so you can get at least one cool skin for your favorites every now and then.

    As someone who gained access to CBT2 and finished the main story I can already say that this game is a league above Genshin. Not overhyping, I'm stating things how they are.
    The story was a bit of a yap fest for the first 2 hours, but once Scar appeared it started getting interesting. I love the fact that they already enstablished Rover's lore as the main focus of the story. It was an introduction chapter, nothing crazy, so I'll give it a 7- out of 10.
    The combat is CRAZY good, learning the attack patterns of the enemies is bringing me back to the SoulsBorne/Elden Ring days and I love that! The game doesn't really punish you that much if you fail to dodge or perry, but that might be because I'm still in the early game. Because of that, I want to reach the endgame (if there is any in this beta) to see if something changes.
    The exploration follows the same formula of Genshin, with all the puzzles and challenges, but the traversal is SOOO much better, you can wall run, "double jump" and use a grapple which is basically Kazuha's skill available as a gadget. Hopefully they maintain this degree of freedom, I don't want to see entire areas locked behind side quests like Genshin does.
    I refrain from judging the characters, since it's too early for that imo, but I will say that Scar and the Magistrate girl have my attention.
    As for general aestetics and sound design, I think the character designs are really damn good and the monsters look sick, bosses themes are absolute bangers 🔥!
    Keep in mind, these are just my first impressions after more or less 12 hours of gameplay, I still have to explore the game further, but the fact I haven't found any major problem so far is a very good sign.
    Just noticed some "bugs" related to dialogues: sometimes they take a few seconds to load and when there are more than three lines of text, the forth line gets cut off.
    Lastly, I want to clarify that I'm not an advocate of the Genshin killer narrative (good clickbait material tho). Wuthering Waves is a competitor, nothing more, nothing less.
    That being said, Genshin will not change due to WuWa eventual success. Genshin addicts will not leave the game for WuWa (they will probably just try it or play both), especially the normies. And as long as Genshin doesn't lose players the devs will not change ANYTHING. But that is fine in my opinion, Genshin is a hopeless game and it can remain that way for what I care. HSR is everything I need from HoYoVerse, to be honest.

    About the characters and their designs, I believe it’s just Genshin players too used to “flashy” and “in your face” kind of outfits that they can’t really appreciate WW characters because most are more dark and muted (but then again, when do Genshin players appreciate anything other than Genshin). Personally, I love dark and muted. Wriothesley is my favorite Genshin character, not just cuz he’s voiced by Joe Zieja, but his design and colors looks great. Same goes the Trailblazer in HSR, dark and muted character design. But to some people, dark and muted is lame. The point about Diluc and Ying Lin, yeah, that’s just dumb and a clear case of bias.

    • @captainpeanut6427
      @captainpeanut6427 8 месяцев назад +16

      For me, it's not that they're not flashy enough or anything. Like, the designs look good aesthetically. It's just, they tell me nothing about the character. I don't feel a connection between character lore/personality and design. They just look very good, but that's all. This is what's missing a bit for me, if that makes sense.
      I feel like most of the female characters could swap clothes and it wouldn't fundamentally change them.
      It's not something that'll dissuade me from playing, and there are some characters that I like and stand out for me. Just not a fan of the general design direction as of now.

    When it comes to Kuro Games, in PGR they do have a lot of Coatings (Skins) for all their character they do come in 2 varieties. There are ones that you can grind to get F2P but generally they don't change anything but the appearance of the characters. Then they have SFX Coatings which are Skins that are only purchasable with Real Money but they add more value by changing the character appearance as well as change the Effects in the combat animations of the characters.
    So I think it's fine to have skins that F2P players can work towards but it is also fine for Skins to only be available with money if their value is above the bar set by the F2P obtainable skins.

    • @surreabel
      @surreabel 8 месяцев назад +3

      I think it's less about the colours and more about the art style.. Genshin's art style is its own brand.. WuWa has a very familiar and commonplace art style, I can't exactly pinpoint but it just feels slightly off.. But they make it up with the gameplay so it's not that big of a deal.

    • @Axterix13
      @Axterix13 8 месяцев назад +1

      @surreabel Not for me. It is about the colors. Or rather, color, singular. Because that's what a character gets. Greyscale, and one color. Look at the red haired girl... her clothing matches her hair perfectly. In this muted world, she found a bright red chest strap and shorts that perfectly match each other and her hair. Pink haired girl? She too found clothing that is all greyscale... except for the pink, which again perfectly matches her hair.
      Would it kill them to have someone with, say, brown pants, and a muted red shirt? Or maybe blond hair and a green coat. Or maybe they could go really, really crazy and have a character with brown hair, blue jeans, and a silver belt buckle. I know, I know, three non-grey colors might be asking for too much, even if one is just for a minor accessory, but one can dream, right?
      Now, it is worth noting that plenty of games fall into this hair color = costume color trap. Genshin has a ton of characters where the hair color matches the clothing color with also relates to the element they use. And it something that makes me tired of blue haired characters, because they are so common between cryo and hydro. A character like Chevy (though for her, it ties to Overload... pyro costume with electro hair) or Klee is the exception. Tower of Fantasy, hair color = costume color, over and over again.
      Just how bad are their character designers that they only use the same color schemes a third grader would use? Mix it up a bit. Don't overuse the concept. And especially don't make several of the first characters your players get look basically the same.

    I just wanted to quickly touch on the League of Legends cosmetics/champions monetization that was touched on and dispell some myths (been playing League for 7 years so no life, and yes my PFP is a skin from League). The person who was arguing with you about skin monetization got 2 main points wrong in the comparison to gacha and cometics and I wanted to explain them first.
    1) League is not fully grindable for "new players" in order to get all the playable characters and thus is actually more similar to a gacha game in this sense (we're talking about new players not oldies who already have all the playable characters unlocked). With the introduction of blue essence (BE), the process of acquiring champions is a lot harder than it was in it's influence points (IP) era but I'm not going to touch on that. BE is the currency used to purchase playable characters and is mainly obtained through 1 method (ignoring farming battle passes and the measly 50 BE you get from your daily win) and it's through the "random" champion capsules you obtain after levelling up. These champion capsules have a set value of BE that it should give you (you get a character at varying BE cost tiers, think comparing it to 3, 4, 5 star characters but where the cheaper '3' star characters are not necessarily better than the '5' star characters , though the '5' star characters are more expensive). However with the over 160 champions league of legends have your chances of getting a new character are extremely volatile AND these capsules will give you characters that cost less BE (think '3' star character) than the higher BE cost characters. And the WORST part of it all is that these characters that you get from the random gacha capsules ARE NOT EVEN THE FULL CHAMPION, they are actually "shards". You must actually use more BE (that you get through the capsules or disenchanting these shards) to either upgrade a shard into a permanent champion OR buy it for a higher price of BE in the in game store. These champions can also be purchased with RP (riot points, the paid currency of league).
    2) When specifically looking at cosmetics, the "grinding" system that the viewer mentions is a loot box system akin to CSGO (I'd rather this comparison than to Overwatch or Apex). In this system it is actually exactly akin to a gacha WHERE you can grind the game and play well to achieve chests (think getting a 9 star on a floor of the abyss) and also be a honorable player that others enjoy playing with (it's harder to find a comparison to Genshin here but since it ultimately rewards players who play the game more often I'd want to draw the comparison to achievements). These chests are opened by the keys and you get a RANDOM skin that you have no control over. Like 3, 4 and 5 stars there are different cost tiers of the skins (epic, legendary, mythic, etc.) that have varying cosmetic effects on the game (again where rarity doesn't necessarily equal how good the skin is). This grinding system is time-gated where you can only obtain one chest per week, and the key drop rate is almost completely random but drops more frequently when you play more often. It's important to note that if you don't want to grind (especially since there are over 1,600 skins in the game and varying numbers of 2-15 for each champion) you can also purchase the skin in the shop for RP (riot points) a paid currency GIVEN that the skin isn't a limited time skin (that comes out during a certain event or time during the year).
    Now onto my personal issue with what was said on stream. LEAGUE IS BARELY NOT comparable to a gacha system with it's current implementation of the champion and skin system AND it's restricting for new players to actually purchase and play new champions. And I'll address it first, yes there is a "free champion rotation" where you can test out characters in unranked games BUT you cannot use them in ranked game modes meaning that the character pool you're limited to is WHAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY PURCHASE, which for a new player, is actually a finite amount.
    And, like any other gacha game, players that have played for long enough and grinded will eventually complete their collection by grinding out levels, champion capsules and BE, but in theory this could also be true for a gacha game, where a player has grinded enough to eventually mitigate all chance and random gacha pulls to obtain every single character (I already highlighted the level of chance in the champion capsule system but also want to say that, yes you can purchase all champions for BE but it's a lot harder to obtain enough BE for that as a new player, just like how a new gacha game player will have a limited number of pulls/summons). And the worst part about all of this is, is that these champions are the gameplay NOT JUST COSMETICS, for a game that is preached to be free, how free really is it and how accessible is it to new players? As a free to play league player you are most definitely gated to a certain number champions for the first 100 levels of playing and I think that's what ticked me off about what was said on stream. And lest we talk about the cosmetics which where, sure you can get some nice skins, but the chance of you getting something you like is quite literally less than 1/1600 every week accounting for everything else you can obtain from chests.
    Sorry for rambling just reading what the guy said made me upset and sorry if my English is hard to understand.

    @Tectone to answer your question and counter: Punishing gray raven and Honkai impact has a chance to get the skins through events.
    Example, honkai impact does it really good in where if there is a skin that comes out it get an event. That event ranges from gacha or the limited ticket currency that you get before a certain outfit that you like releases. It is the same for punishing, there was an outfit i really liked and managed to get through a chance Example (don't know the exact number) 0.008. If you don't get the outfit, you either wait for event to come back or you save up the currency ticket for said outfit or SPEND.
    There is also another way that honkai impact does it in where it just fairs for both sides. That is, you use the ticket that you use to buy like the amount need for a chance to get the outfit and as you keep going the currency for gacha count to spend increase the number of crystals needed to keep going until you get the outfit.
    Sorry i know you don't like long explanations too much, but Kuro I believe has already done the skins for punishing well all they have to do is bring it here to wuthering waves.

    I know Teccy disagrees, but I feel like it is insanity to say Diluc, Venti, Lisa, Aether, Kaeya are worse or the same level of design as what 1.0 WW is offering.
    And i dont even play GI(only HSR and we dont wanna pull up 1.0 HSR competition coz everyone knows Seele, JY design is unmatches in WW)... dunno if it is a female thing, but to me Kuro Games issue is that they probably dont have great outfit designers coz the outfits and accessories miss details and the color schemes are just extremely weird pics. And it aint anout prefrences, it is literally just basic ass outfits, without enough accessories and any details or personality involved.
    Generally I d say it is not a big deal, but if they wanna sell their characters to a more causal audience, and want their male characters to get some sales (aka wanna involve the female demographic), they gotta do better with outfits, coz I aint gonna lie as a female it does heavily influence my decision.
    And many non-casual players would be surprised how many casuals think and act the same. And it is easy money, for honestly not that much work, so just redesign the outfits for some, Jiyan should be the standard not the peak.

      @KusakaI've been playing it for a couple of days, and, well, I actually have issues with the mechanics. The jump doesn't let me go forward enough. The jetpack relic that lets me go up for some reason has a crazy long recharge, which is a fun killer and seems kinda pointless. The server xp bonus means I outleveled the combat just like that, and consequently, I don't really have a clue what I'm doing, because I didn't have time to learn what I have before a new system or twelve is dumped on me. And now that I hit a point where that isn't the case, well, I don't know what I'm doing. I think, overall, there are a few too many mechanics at play. And that gets worse when you consider all the various reward/currency systems, all the different things to level that all take their own things. So overall, they just throw too much at a new player. I shudder to think what a casual gamer would make of it all.
      They could really benefit from streamlining things a lot more. Sometimes, less is more. As it is, I'll probably uninstall it. I'm not invested at all, and a large part of that has to do with it just throwing too much stuff at me.
      Also, while the starter banner has an SSR guarantee on it, they don't let the player choose the one they want... that's just dumb.

    currently, i dont know much about wuwa so i cant compare the two, but i can at least explain a little about genshin.
    with 1.0 in genshin, they just layed the groundwork for characters, story elements, and lore really well via gameplay which i thought was really good, so i dont think it sucks at all, honestly. the abyss, fatui, archons...even dvalin or the holy lyre, it gives an idea of what these entities are in the world and a sense of purpose, and why factions like the abyss are against them. it wasnt peak storytelling, but i thought it was good with how it started things off with the first few major quests because it gives the impression that there is much more than what was shown on the surface.
    37:20
    with 1.0, the characters in wuwa look really nice and pretty with this soft and smooth(?) features overall, i dont know how to explain it. currently, adult characters seem to be give more mature(?) colours (idk how to describe it) like blacks, greys, blues, maybe some reds and whites mixed in while child characters having more vibrant and flowery colours. which, i think makes sense in the world that this takes place in, so i dont think its bad. maybe there will be some lore about characters and why they look they way they do, but ultimately i would say its fine.
    but with genshin, what i always have enjoyed about character designs is that who a character is, and or what they do in the world, is reflected by their design. being in a colourful and vibrant world, it gives devs plenty of room, opportunity, and freedom to use their imagination and come up with ways to distinguish each character from any other and thats what i love to see.
    mona? a mage of hydromancy so is made up of dark blues and blacks with a large magic hat who is very much intelligent and confident in her abilities.
    diluc? someone that acts on their own ideals and stuff, living in mondstadt not being part of the knights of favonius as well as maintaining a wine industry so he is mainly made up of black colours with a fur coat.
    jean? the current acting grandmaster so she has an upstanding appearance as an official who is responsible for keeping mondstadt in check so she looks quite professional with white colours and symbols over her clothing as someone who is the highest ranking official in the city being in charge.
    i could go on, but my point is that i have always appreciated each and every character to date has had at least some level of thought and care into their design to where it sets them apart as i said earlier. whether its because of what a character does in their life, or what has happens to them in history from a lore perspective, i think i could go off about any character to date because they are just, really well done.
    overall, im not trying to bring either game down. i didnt compare the current story of wuwa to genshin because i havent looked into it, so i made sure not to compare the two. in terms of designs, if wuwa capitalises on their own cool design philosophy when it comes to characters, then thats good. i just dont think it will appeal to me in the end, because it just...idk, i guess i would just like each character to be more distinct and unique with who they are and being able to figure that out simply by looking at them. for wuwa, its still in development so maybe things will be more appealing when its ready to be out in full.
    ty for anyone who has bothered to read this through, genshin has been one of my favourite games since the beginning and it has given me some of the best experiences i had for myself and with friends who are dear to me so it really does mean a lot to me peraonally

      Not only do the outfits of the characters reflect them, but their animations differ too. The two best examples I can think of are Xiao and Hu Tao.
      Xiao is a very traditional and guarded way of fighting, keeping his free arm close to his chest to use in case he needs to protect himself there, while Hu Tao’s animations show a more carefree style, where her arms are more outstretched away from her body. It’s a nice detail that most people don’t seem to notice (just my general observation since I don’t see much people talking about these things).
      I’m not quite sure about WW yet, I’ve only seen some characters fighting animations, but still have no clue on their personalities (with the exception of Ying Lin cuz I feel like I can get an idea).

      There are colorful outfits though. Bright pink, bright red, bright blue. No doubt they'll add bright yellow and bright green at some point as well.
      The problem isn't that the game doesn't use colors, or that the colors are all muted (because, again, bright friggin' pink). It's that pink hair girl has pink in her clothing, and it perfectly matches her hair, and there isn't any other non-greyscale color. The ones that use red? Red in the hair, that matches the red in their costume perfectly, and everything else is greyscale. Blue wearing girl? One shade of blue, everything else, greyscale.
      And this means that there isn't much variety in terms of color usage and consequently, increased odds of characters looking alike, blending into each other. Especially since the enemies have the same thing happening... greyscale + 1 color.

    Design wise i think they look good . I think most people don’t like is that many characters have the same color pallete like black, gray and white wich makes many characters have the same look, Also many characters have the same hair color mostly black, red and white. What i saw there was 2 male characters that har the same white hair so they looked like the same character. The thing is that it can work to have these things but you need to make diffrent kind of shades at least so it doesn’t all have the same feel. Examples. Have characters woth the same hair color have another color or make the hair style alot diffrent like one is short and the other is long.The autfit should at least have 2 prmary color and on of then can be black or white. The issue with black and white color combo is that they are oppasite wich means that they are both fighting for your eyes. Black and white work better of you put it with another color sense black and white aren’t technally real colors. Plus color helps with characters sense colors can tell you trinds about the character like red is usally connected to fire and high energy character. I think the designs are good they just need to work withe the colors and they don’t have put strong colors sense there are many shades of colors. Like dark red and toned out colors that i think would work for this game. This is from an art student.

    • @tarabletv
      @tarabletv 8 месяцев назад +7

      @prisciliaflora Idk if you just don't have a clue about character design or lack basic reading comprehension. I said the *elements* of the clothing are cohesive, and match each distinct character's location, personality, abilities. Amber is not wearing a bunny outfit, but there are hints to bunnies in her outfit to showcase her friendly, outgoing and energetic personality. Beidou could be wearing a stereotypical pirate outfit but instead she's wearing a longer, more Chinese looking robe to match her background as a Liyue citizen. Even if you look at some random new character, like Ga Ming, his loose clothing and red ensemble hidden behind a black jacket show his casual and carefree vibe and a passion that's hidden behind a somewhat bitter past. WW has similar elements, especially with characters like Chixia. But while they have good colors and style that seem to match the personality of the characters, there is a defined lack of cohesion when it comes to explaining how they match the character's history. Which is fine for the beta, and I'm sure it'll improve, but as of right now it just does not match the attractiveness of genshin's designs.

    • @captainpeanut6427
      @captainpeanut6427 8 месяцев назад +5

      @encrypted0547 They have an actual good point. You're deflecting from the actual point and make it seem like you don't actually want WuWa to succeed. The lack of a skip button is a valid point of critique for Genshin, but it has literally nothing to do with the discussion here. Neither does resin. The topic is brand exposure.
      Paimon, whether you like it or not, has established herself to be a very prominent character. She's the game's poster child. Every time people praise her, Genshin gets exposure. Every time people shit on her, Genshin gets exposure. Other Genshin character's have a similar effect.
      Paimon is to Genshin what Pikachu is to Pokemon. Obviously these two brands are on different dimensions, but I think you get the point. I don't see any characters in WuWa that are getting the same kind of exposure as of yet.
      This is just common sense, and spamming "genshin midpact" in chat won't change this. You can't improve things if you don't admit that there is room for improvement. If you want WuWa to be even more successful, you will see that there is room for improvement. It's a beta test. Saying everything is great is detrimental to the game. Now is the time to especially critize things.
      Also, why are you shitting on Genshin while at the same time getting upset about other people shitting on the game you like? Can you explain your reasoning? People call Genshin enjoyers whiteknights, but the moment their favorite games get critized they do the same thing. What a clown fest.

      @Mint_Pickers Too many characters introduced in too short a time; the first location has no heart compared to the first entrance to Mondstadt. Too much exposition, and not enough visible crisis. I'm talking about pacing and flow of tension. It tells more than it shows. If 1.0 for Genshin was a 7 story, Wuwa seems a 6 or 6.5 at best. Genshin isn't a perfect game, but we have to be fair.

    Tbh, I think the characters and the world of WW, designs, and colors are fine. I think everyone is just not used to the more muted and darker colors because everyone is so used to the bright colors. Now... don't get me wrong. cbt1 was overly muted. It was a good choice to make the world a bit brighter. The mix of both is good. Still has the post-apocalyptic feel to it. While having bright colors makes it feel a little more alive. I think they did an amazing job.
    Personally, my opinion is that the overly bright colors are a bit overdone. Like, I see it so much. It just feels nice to see something different.

    Here's my question
    Did they make the MC you play as a underage teenager?
    If I have to deal with yet another incident where a character wants to do stuff with me like drinking, and the ONLY RESPONSE is "I'm sorry, I'm underage" I am going to fuckin riot.
    I had hope for HSR but when Guinifen asking the MC if they were single, and the response was "Sorry I'm underage"....I haven't gotten over that

      half of the genshin playerbase are female so they are not gonna be impressed with a hot booba MC. hsr girl mc is one of the better ones because they decided to make her goofy tomboy rather than the stereotypical hot girl.

    • @killuafan4365
      @killuafan4365 8 месяцев назад

      The Genshin one is devoid of design elements since the MC has zero personality, hence why they feel terrible. The honkai MC design suits her well, especially the female one since they went full on smug with her. The smug attitude would not work with a look like Kafka, Himeko or even Ruan Mei. The MC of Star rail looks young and teen like because she acts like it most of the time, the Genshin MC is only a do gooder. The Genshin MC is also not treated like a hero despite their feats in Teyvat, Honkai Star rail ONLY works because they are on different planets. The non-threatening/childish look on the Star rail character works, Genshin doesn't. Also the Honkai one has a habit of digging garbage.

    My take on paying for skins;
    I come from heavily playing Girls Frontline. Most/all characters were easily obtainable during rate up events and grinding. The real money maker was in the skins. Game companies would miss out on a % of skin wanters if they are unable to obtain the character in the first place. If the character gatcha is tolerable and fair then charging for skins would also be tolerable and fair is my take. Including skins in battle passes is cool too.

  • @williamp9560

    Nobody said color palette, it’s design. Not all characters are bland. Too many are. Chixia, Yuanwu, Yinlin are some of their better designs. But could you tell me which characters are part of new federation or midnight rangers by design alone.
    In genshin without knowing anything about mondstat you can tell which characters are from there. You can tell which characters are of nobility. You can tell what position characters have by their attire.
    In Wuthering waves you get some idea that a character is cool or strong but first glance? I can’t tell you what any of these characters have in relation to each other. That is just the start.

    I'm sure you've noticed that open world exploration rewards are the same Genshin, which could be improved in my opinion. Genshin is known for being stingy. Chest rewards don't feel significant . When was the last time you opened a chest and we're excited about the rewards? If wuwa were to double their open world exploration rewards, the player base would appreciate them and give them another hand over Genshin.
