- Hi! Thanks for visiting the channel!
This is the 3000 subscriber special video that took around two weeks since the poll ended, so it was quite a project!
The pigment weathering turned out quite well, i also like the rigging!
The music was taken from:
RUclips Audio Library
My dad, RMC Steve E Philip was a Plankowner on this ship. I was privileged to have attended many ship’s reunions, always on 06 October to commemorate the lives of the 54 sailors who were lost on that faithful night at Vella La Vella in the Solomon Islands and for the remaining crew to gather and reminisce with their shipmates. It’s probable that the crew has all passed on but for me, USNRetired, will never forget meeting so many of this brave crew!
Fantastic model. Wish I had your patience and skill.
I think the pigment streaks came out quite nice. Well done, Sir!
Thanks, i am glad you like it! I also am glad with the pigment weathering, but im afraid with smaller scale ships, it gets too rough very quickly
@funinscale2892 your USS chevalier looks great tell me judging by the music you played I going to guess this model destroyer was built around Christmas time? 😀
The model is nice for the most part except to measure 22 scheme was not painted on the ship still late 43 early. By that time round bridge Fletcher's had gone through a lot of changes especially on the afterdeck housetop. It had a twin 40 mm up there. You've mixed up the torpedo tubes you have the stern tubes between the funnels which it goes behind the second funnel and the one without the dome goes between the finals. Plus the funnel caps were never painted black. Till after the war they were the same color as the funnel to blend in with the horizon.
Brilliant done!
Nice build but as others have noted, you do not have the main guns and torpedo tubes in the correct locations. The 5" mounts with the hoods on top go on the main deck, positions 1 and 5. Theses gun mounts also are different from the others as they are "double knuckle" mounts referring to the extra bracing these mounts have on the roofs to protect them from the muzzle blasts of the guns directly behind them which is also the reason they have hoods. Also as someone else pointed out the the torpedo tubes with the pill box shield on top should be the aft torpedo tubes. The reason it has the pill box shield is to protect the crew from the blast of the 5" gun next to it.
Knowing the quality of old Revell products, I think u did a fine job on this. The painting and weathering really brought this to life. The handrails - meh. Thank god for PE which we pay for of course.
I liked and subbed, after watching a few of yur vids. 5K just around the corner, then 10.
best class of war ship during ww2 by far. they were industrialized in construction because they made so many
Truly, they were the workhorse of the US navy, an impressive and often also sad history for many of those ships
When the kit is so big the railings are plastic
Also good commentary
Looks nice, but I think you might have the #1 and #2 5in. guns swapped. I think the upper hatch blast shield went on the #1 gun to protect it from the blast of the #2.
Awesome work my friend keep up the good work
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT DAH HEEEELLLLL that is crazy. You know there is a premium version of that!!!!!!!
Hi! Yeah i am tempted to get the platinum version as well, there is one offered for 50€, which isnt very much for this plastic kit alone, so for the platinum version which has metal barrels, metal bells and other smaller turned brass items and many PE parts, it would be a great deal! I actually had the platinum version once, but sold it again because i didn't think i could build it
Nice work.
For such a large scale ship model there is a disappointing lack of detail on some of the parts.
I love that stopmotion!
Thanks! It was fun to make as well! But its only really possible with smaller subassemblies, the ship is a little bit big to make it work :)
Round bridge vs square bridge? My friend who was a plankowner on DD445 USS Fletcher Donald Dahlke and Silver star recipient.always said his ship was most badass.
Especially in November 1942.
He sadly watched the USS Juno get hit....and explode. Sullivan's died...
Don was always humble..
Eric Hammel book shows him getting the silver star from Halsey...
I would have died for this model as a younger man or even kid.
It is a great kit and the finished model looks very interesting in my opinion, if you are still into modelling and get one, i can highly recommend it! Have you tried looking it up on ebay? Revell released this kit in a platinum edition some years ago with additional PE parts, so there might be more for sale again
@@funinscale2892 I gave it up with age I got Essential Tremors and it's impossible to do fine work.
Awesome!👍👍👍
Peter awesome build and video. I am trying to find this kit here in the States, but sadly no luck as of yet. The build was great as well as the weathering and rigging. I see you finely put your penguin to work! Cool stormtrooper helmet too. Next time maybe we can see the man under the mask? I reall like the history of the ship, a real good source of WW2 history on RUclips is a channel by Mark Felton, check it out sometime very interesting. Okay I rambled on enough, excellent build and video always enjoy them. Have a great week and stay safe my friend. As always my very best to you and your family. 👍👍🇦🇹🤝🇺🇸
Hi Chris! Thanks very much, glad you like this build as well! I have seen some of Mark Feltons videos, he is a great historian and one of the few RUclips people who actually seem to know their subjects. There are many well researched videos, but Mark Felton always presents without any personal bias and his research are a great reference! For warships i usually look up Drachinifel's channel, he makes superb videos on so many ships, famous and lesser known ones! Hope you are fine and have a great time!
@@funinscale2892 hello Peter, I looked up that RUclips channel you were talking about and I really enjoy it, thanks. I read a couple of Mark Felton's books and just like his channel they are outstanding. Glad to hear that you received your first vaccination. When I received my first one no side effects, but the second one, my arm was really sore, feverish, nauseous and body aches. Got the vaccination (2nd) on a Wednesday and Thursday morning I sure felt it. Left work early took some aspirin and felt fine on Friday. Hope your doing well and looking forward to the next episode and build. Have a great week and stay safe my friend. God bless. 👍👍🇦🇹🤝🇺🇸
Great job!
Can you provide your painting scheme...colors used ( brand name used)...getting my kit next week
Dear ?, Tamiya Hull red is a Japanese naval wartime color. Cherry red is a good match for American hull red. Also, Deck blue is a stain, it is best to use a blue color that uses either a polyurethane or linseed oil effect, it's also darker. Otherwise it's a really good build!
Hi Keith! Thanks for the infos, i always prefer tamiyas hull red because of the darker red tone, because i thought it was like this on every ship and the cherry red ones are just too poppy. I have to get another paint then, for the US ships in the future. I used a Sea Blue once for the deck paint of US ships, but it seemed like a flat black paint after drying, so i went a little lighter instead of too dark. But I'm partially colourblind, so i can't define the correct paints in any case
no not really, I like to get a good base color then screw it up.
I have looked for this ship and I can not find it any where. Can you tell me where you got it please? I liked your build big time.
Very nice!
Great job
Thanks Aditya! May i ask, are you from Nepal? I think your name is nepalese, right?
Great job dude
Keep it up
Waiting for Bismarck
Bismarck when?
Not planned for now
My great Uncle was killed on this ship Joseph Hershman
Отлично получилось ! Тоже делаю корабли, смотри :)
Thanks very much! If google translator didnt lie to me, you also like to make model ships? :)
@@funinscale2892 Yes, that's right, I'm making ship models. But I get very long construction projects, for example, I did "Tirpitz" for 7 years :)
Lol the star wars mask
Face reveal
My face can be seen in some videos in the glass reflection, so i didnt think it is such a big secret how i look :)
honestly, after my 1/535 scale uss missouri from revell, I can't trust them with ship models. Lets just say it was a full hull model with one massive rudder and no propellers. Not the highest quality
God I built that it was so bad
@@mazda_rt24-p Same, horrible kit. But cheap, easy, good way to get back into the hobby.
I also built that thing, this was really a bad experience and i usually also avoid revell models, but this one and olympia were nice exceptions for once. The draken i have recently made was also a kit made by hasegawa so the good fit and nice model are not Revell's service :)
@@funinscale2892 Yeah I have been watching ebay for a while looking for the Olympia kit. I have alway liked the ship but could not bring myself to buy the Linberg model. That even makes the Revell Missouri model look high class
Goodbye to you as well!
Why is Carol of bells playing
What I was thinking 🤣
To be honest, i just had to google where this song comes from and found out it is a christmas music, i didnt know it until now and found it in the youtube audio library :D
@@funinscale2892 I LIKED IT! I thought it fit in well with your narrative of this ships history. imho.
Awesome work my friend keep up the good work
