Great video, Thanks mate, said before it is the demand on the antiquated system with people turning up the heating etc to keep warm, I am surprised there are no more of these fires, stay safe and keep warm.
Thank you John. It seems those underground transformers are never happy. LOL. Summer, rain, snow they make angry popping sounds. Blessings to the deny for their continued diligence. Blessings an stay warm all. ❤❤🚒🚒❤❤
Okay. I know it's not a good thing going on here but I really do love the poppity-pop noises. Sounds like fireworks or fire crackers...I love it! And all that snow reminds me why I live in Arizona now...
Yup I figured y’all would catch one of those little urban street volcanoes what with the cold and snow and road salt. Probably be several more. Great video.
@scotthopkins6805 Like most power companies they get there when they feel like it. In San Diego, the response time is about an hour if the fire dept is lucky. That includes responses for a broken gas line in the street or at a residence. What is needed nationwide are at least three to five electri trucks city wide doing regular work but are able to respond to emergencies. They will have an emergency vehicle with ights and sirens and will like all of the emergency services have a set response time to respond to a call. Most electric companes like SDG&E charge you 500. a month or more for electricity and do abad job of proidig basic services, like during a power outage, trust me i lived in San Dieg for 34 years
@ You have a really good idea. Pretty much you have them positioned across the city or at least locations for on call crews to wait that are close to vehicles.
Anybody know how large an area one of these would serve? Maybe about one block? That would be an expensive repair to replace one of those. Not to mention the hassle of a block or more having no juice while the repairs are being performed.
Hey John, I Thought All NYC Sewers Acted Like This?? LOL Great Job Brother!! Stay Warm, Dry And SAFE!! Later Brother And Peace-Out!! P.S. Maybe The Mice, Rats, Lizards And Alligators Celebrating "FESTOVUS" For All The REST Of US, With Some "FIREWORKS"!!! LOL!! Hey, No RAC???
They seem to have a lot of these. The underground placement must be a legacy of how the grid was designed and built there. Here in Minneapolis I don't think I've ever heard of an underground trans on fire. We must not put them underground here.
@@douglas2lee929 The real positive of having utility wires underground as far as fire department operations is overhead wires interfere with aerial and tower ladder placement. Especially if there are many together in one area. Many times you can't get an ideal spot for the aerial and have to stop short or pass the fire building to use the ladder.
They are not sewer manholes, they are manholes for the electrical system which is underground in Manhattan. There are both electrical junctions and transformers in underground vaults, and the manholes are for access by workers and for ventilation.

The reason was to eliminate the overhead lines getting tangled and overtaking the sky
@nicoleabrahamson1883 Yep, I get that. Not criticizing, simply observing. Two different philosophies, each having positives and negatives.
@@nicoleabrahamson1883 I'm not sure what you mean by overtaking the sky. And tangled with what?

Need PKP
OK AND THANKS SO MUCH.....
Must be water and road salt getting down there
YES IT IS INDEED.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Why are there electric boxes in the sewer manholes

THOSE ARE NOT SEWERS.....THEY ARE DESIGNED FOR CABLES AND ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND SUCH.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Well a 6 out off 10 lol he was a but too quit.
That manhole is in a bad location. Taken all the salt water at the curb line. Salt n water is a bad combo for electric.
YS INDEED AL I AGREE.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 No problem brother. Stay warm.
