It is the reason I am watching. People like me the motor would have already fallen off, would have gotten that fixed, then the over heating would have destroyed the motor, then I probably would have went to jail from the harbor police. Some people have all the luck!
Don’t drag a muddy anchor on board instead lift the anchor and tie it of just below the surface of the water and set off. After a little while stop and if the mud has washed off you can bring it on board. ,love you two stay safe!

I’m trying real hard not to appear negative because y’all are young and still having fun. It appears that you are falling into that capricious trap of enjoying it until it breaks and then fix it. As I said previously, cover your patches with temporary paint so your fiberglass repairs can be truly addressed with a proper paint job at your own budget and discretion. Fix and address the reason for overheating on your motor immediately. Not doing so will lead to a severe motor failure that could require replacement. Perhaps a $.99 part or even just a straight out flush could do the job. Where’s the point in taking a needless risk? If your transom is cracking, it needs repair now! Something so simple as a Dremel clean out of the crack and a fill with Marine Tex can make for a solid fix. On the other hand, if the transom come apart, the boat is going to semi sink and the motor can go bye bye. I’d suspect that might ruin your trip. And, finally, if the straps or rope webbing on your trampoline is already coming apart now is the time to fix it. If we, in our seventies, can travel 1600 mile on a monohull sailboat which required repairs along the way, y’all can do it. If you wait until it all gangs up on you, it gets overwhelming. Just a thought but having fun can be better served over the long run by interspersing a little along the way TLC. 😁😁😁
Well put Bruce. A few repairs wouldn’t go astray. I’ve been thinking the same. A couple of repairs can quickly become quite a few if you don’t get on top of them.
Bruce , we might as well be bouncing our heads off of a cinder block wall than talk sense and basic safety into these two. Several of us told them to fix the hull correctly while they were on the hard before they even considered putting that.... I'm going to call it, fish habitat, on the water.
Bruce, Matthew..... Would we all even be watching these two if they did things right? It would just be a dull, never ending boat delivery for a refit. It's their personalities and "how not to" diy that is the entertainment. And some excellent drone footage. Cheers
I have an Intex Mariner 4 that I have a Minn Kota trolling motor on. I use to run the trolling motor with a full size deep cycle battery like you do. I got tired of lugging that thing around so I went down to Batteries Plus and purchased a DURACELL Deep Cycle battery; model number DURDC12-35J. Its less than half the size of a full size battery and I can fish all day long with it. It's never left me without power on the lake. One of the best things I ever did for my Mariner 4 raft!
Please don't wear a rucksack when in the dinghy - it's the opposite of a life-jacket, ... an anchor-bag? Congrats on the second motor - always good to have a back-up plan.
Only because that one guy in the boat yard had a fairly good understanding how to repair a fiberglass hole in the bottom of the hull. Otherwise it would have been setting on the bottom of the ICW months ago.
Mud can clog some passageways. Is telltale still spitting a nice stream? You can hook up a hose with ears and flush the outboard. Most people do that frequently when in shallow waters or muddy runnoff.
Might need a new water pump impeller. It's been year's since I changed one and I'm not sure if they are still built like they used to be. If so it is a very easy thing to do. When the rubber gets bad the impeller blades collapse and don't pump water under speed. They usually do at idle though. See if it's spitting water at high speed. I used to change mine every two years if it needed it or not. Way easier and cheaper than having an engine overhauled. I've blown an engine due to a bad impeller. That engine could be getting a little tired. Maybe start saving, and budget for a nice replacement engine. I'd look for one with electric start and a charging system to charge all your other batteries while motoring.
You guys are great. Very proud of the challenges you overcome. please ignore the haters and the ones that are waiting for you to fail. Bad Shit happens to everyone. The type that sits back and says I cant believe they made it this far (go watch your fail channels) and try wishing people good luck or say a prayer for someone .
I like trolling motors. I bought a new 27 lb Minn Kota back in the seventies and it still runs great. I just rinsed it off after each use and sprayed it with wd40. was salt water use too.
just a tip for the transom , tie a rope around your stern rail to just behind the outboard mounting bracket & back to the stern rail , it should stop your engine going for a swim if the transom does give in , all the best guys
My first boat i ever owned was a intex mariner 4 until i must have ran over a down tree and started taking in water! I own a vibe seaghost 130 kayak now. Had a few good trips with that intex!!
Nice looking catamaran. Here's a hint. Shorten your dinghy painter to the length that it CAN'T foul your prop if it falls in the water. If you leave it as long as it appears to be, it is guaranteed to foul your prop at some point. When it does, you will NOT be able to raise your motor to access the snarl around your prop. It WILL happen, and never at a good time.
FYI. I believe once you add a motor to a blow up raft. You are required to register it( numbers and stickers). Just wanted you to know in case you run across a harbor police officer doing his job. They probably will let you off with a warning first time. Plus they are usually nice guys and gals. Have fun. Enjoy thus trip of a life time..
There's foldup 2 wheel dollies by Milwaukee etc for like $30 or so at home stores. It could make hauling stuff to your boat much easier and folds flat for compact storage. Those little Mr Buddy heaters can be used for occasional heating and safer for a confined space.

Appreciate the positive attitude, but you are lucky, plain and simple. Get to a marina with a boat yard. Get your motor fully serviced. Rebuild the transom and build a proper door. Storm season is here.
Congratulations on both the boat and the trolling motor. I might recommend having a rope or something attached to the boat motor if your worried about the transom, so you can catch it if the transom breaks. And in a pinch you can use the trolling motor on the big boat.
sounds like you need a new impeller in your water pump! First sign of overheating ,water should stream out the port harder then what i see, also check inlet ports down at sides in front of propeller.Happy sailing!!!
In Florida you need to have your dinghy registered and titled if you are going to run it with the trolling motor. That may be true of other states as well.

Guys you got this. You can do it. Cant wait to see what you do with the boat. You need sponsors to help you with a motor. Come on sponsors where you at. These guys need some help... How long will it take you to get to fla?
Well, I think, one major fascinating element of this channel is that all things are not new and have their cracks almost before sinking. With a new main motor that does its job properly, the channel will be a little less fascinating. ;) Somehow I think they two are aware of that and like to play with that. ;)
Just making the best with what we have. Glad I can learn about motors with this old one so when I get a new one I’ll know how to take care of it better. It would be so cool if Mercury would sponsor us with a motor!!
Subbed at vid 1. Loved the houseboat refit. This is one channel I’ll like the video before I watch it cause I know it’s going to be good. Also , what’s the model of that outboard?
Hey guys! Glad all is well. Your cooking with gas now!! That dingy with motor definitely a game changer. I'm very happy for you two.😁 so I've been trying to contact somebody with some kind of clout at Mercury. I've told your story to 5 different people and told them where to find you on youtube. But so far i keep getting the people who can't make that sort of call but they all promised to see what they could do.😐😒. Does it have to be another Mercury? I mean if someone offered you a motor would you take any brand?
You might want to rig a safety chain to the motor if you're worried the transom could give out. Been following you guys from the beginning. BTW: What happened to your mast? Do you plan to be able to sail ever?
You guys should invest in a small foldable trolley (cart) so you can strap all of your fuel/water containers and maybe a bag or 2 of shopping at the same time so your not having to lug all that weight around with you.
"I don't want to step on the transom to check the oil because it's starting to crack and I don't want the motor to fall in..."

You need sponsors to help you with a motor. Come on sponsors where you at. These guys need some help... How long will it take you to get to fla?
Well, I think, one major fascinating element of this channel is that all things are not new and have their cracks almost before sinking.
With a new main motor that does its job properly, the channel will be a little less fascinating. ;)
Somehow I think they two are aware of that and like to play with that.
Hi my friend! Your opinion about Mariner 4? Do you recommend?!
How's your dinghy? Had to ask it. Reading is fundamental
I have a 30# motor on my 10 ft pelican i love to get on the river and just cruise so quiet
You might want to rig a safety chain to the motor if you're worried the transom could give out.
Been following you guys from the beginning. BTW: What happened to your mast? Do you plan to be able to sail ever?
i am looking at this motor. how do you angle it so it wont touch the ground?
Whats up with the camera buzzing sound again in the background?
You guys should invest in a small foldable trolley (cart) so you can strap all of your fuel/water containers and maybe a bag or 2 of shopping at the same time so your not having to lug all that weight around with you.
We have one and it works really well. Sometime we don’t use it on short trips though
Hows the Newport 55lb running?
Stay safe from the hurricane
Did you ever run it dry before?
