I'm not sure if I'll get some pushback on this post but here goes. I was 25 years old and was at the September 27th, 1985 DIRE STRAITS concert at the Saddledome in Calgary Alberta Canada. The concert was a life changing experience. They played 'Why Worry' and as I listened to the lyrics, it broke me in half. The line that said, 'there's always sunshine after rain, there's always laughter after pain' was sung and I started crying because I was at the lowest end of my life and there was nothing but rain and pain. The song made me long for sunshine in my life. I was addicted to drugs, booze, bad relationships and depressed about it all. But I left my seat before the song ended and as I ran outside crying, I encountered God, believe it or not. I heard Him tell me, "stop running, I know all about your pain and rain". He said 'Come to me if you hunger for peace and forgiveness. I did'. That was nearly forty years ago. If you wanna know if it was real, I literally quit drugs and booze and bad relationships over night and have been sober ever since. I'm 65 now, married to a beautiful woman for 37 years, and though life as put us thru some pretty hard knocks, He's been with me and my sweetie ever since. So you can call me whatever you want, but I know God is real and He loves me.

I love your testimony, sir. I’ve read that Mark Knopfler is an agnostic, but I’ve never heard him say that. Whatever his belief, God has already used him. May Mark find his way to Jesus (if he hasn’t already)….eternity won’t be the same without him.

The second act of Knopfler's career is astonishing - one masterpiece after another with rich, intelligent, and timeless playing and songwriting. He just gets better and better.
Mark is really a master of words. My husband was a mad Mark fan. He bought every album the minute it came out. The line that keeps echoing in my mind and gives me a small crumb of comfort since he sadly died just over a year ago is 'Every man must die' from 'Brothers in Arms'.

He goes beyond Professional. Throughout we have seen the immaculate professionalism of personality and respect - never beating on media for exposure, no notoriety, never politicising his work, and always keeping his private life and Musicianship separate, and always inspiring and down to earth.
A Professional who cares so much for his work he would rather take a much longer time to create - he could bang out music day in and day out, but it would for him not mean much, and so we are all happy to wait while he takes the time to give us all something very beautiful, meaningful and well crafted.
Not many people like that these days, and so I have huge amounts of respect for this kind of Artist.

I had the opportunity of seeing Mark in 2015 at Ruth Eckerd Hall Clearwater, Florida USA. Honestly one of the best concerts I have ever seen. I still remember the show!
As a child of the best sub-section of the Boomer Gen, the Hippie Boombers (in mind & spirit, substance-over-style), Mark's voice has always been a familiar presence. I honestly believe that when the tiny percentage of the Baby Boom, my parents' & Mark's ilk, dies-off - the world will wobble a little & quake in remorse. A phenomenal section of a generation who's creative minds were lightyears ahead of the archaic-seeming establishment prevailing thought. Everything Mark et al. touches turns to gold. Many thanks to all the hippie Boombers out there still with love in their hearts over the pervasive fear and mistrust the subsequent Thatcher-Reagan babies brought to the fore. A brilliant generation of higher minds 🎇✨❇💖
I found Mark 2 years ago on You tube and was over whelmed by his music. I am in my 70s and was not familiar with his Dire Straits or his later Music. I tend to listen to Podcasts and Science/Philosophy in my old age. Now I listen to his music all the time, and in general have come back to being a music listener. He is truly a Jewel.
I could listen to Mark all day, even just talking. There is something completely soothing about his voice and views of the world.
Just hope this Man stays with us for a long time yet!

My father grew up in Sunderland. I believe that my love for Mark’s music is in my DNA, even though I grew up in the United States.

1978 happened sum thing I find in my brothers car a audio cassette. 🎸Dire straits🎸and I have been a super fan since that moment . When I was 48 years old I bought an electric guitar. Wow and beautiful! I saw Dire Straits in concert in Melb in the 80's and I have followed Mark Knopfler's solo career ever since. In my books, Mark is the top 3 solo guitarists ever! Mark is such a humble man and he has done it all with his guitar! My only wish is that he produces one more album with Alan Clark! 🙏

Those places in the video, I frequent very often as I am lucky to live in Newcastle upon Tyne.
As a Geordie, it’s lovely to see my hometown in his videos and hear references in his songs. I can’t help but feel sad when I see him looking so much older and slower now compared with how I see him in my mind, which tends mainly to reflect on the Alchemy album era all those years ago…almost unrecognisable. I guess age comes to us all, so it’s not really a cause to be sad, but I can’t help but feel this way.
Thank you for all of the wonderful music - it is the soundtrack to my life.
