    I love my little, and expensive sea to summit pack. I’ve used it for years. Water Carries, slack pack hikes, in town, etc. am going to hike the JMT this year!

    So exciting Audrey. Looking forward to following your next adventure. Do you mind saying what poles they are as I’m in the market for a new pair. Good luck and happy trails.🤟🏻🥾🏔

      Thank you so much! And not at all - these are the Black Diamond Women's Alpine Carbon Cork trekking poles. Not the cheapest but they're really lightweight, comfortable, and feel strong. (I've had others that felt like they were bending and could snap, which would be a disaster).

    For flying my pack in checked baggage, i bought a cardboard box from Home Depot. Tape it well, throw it away once you arrive.

    For the plane pack your pack in a bag. 1. If damaged airlines are on the hook for it and some of the outside gear may fit. Plus the pack bag gets the potential abuse not your pack. Everything looks great! Enjoy🍀

    Super excited to see your JMT journey! Also super curious what you do for lunches on trail. I am vegan but going vegetarian to thru hike the AT in 2024 and lunches have been the hardest thing to figure out for me.

      Thank you! I have the same issue with lunches. Can never come up with anything I want to eat! But for this one I did bagel thins with laughing cow cheese and tortillas with honey and peanut/almond butter plus snacks. I was hungry enough that they tasted great honestly lol.

    Happy trails. Thanks for sharing your gear. So what was your exact base weight and how much does 9+ Days of food weight.

  • @richardross7219
    @richardross7219 Год назад +1

    The weight is concerning. I'd look at the electronics. Can your camera be attached to a trekking pole to eliminate the selfie stick? Ersacks have failed with just black bears. Mosquito head net? Take some emergency food(instant oatmeal or essentials) in case you get stuck somewhere. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick

    • @AudreyAdventures
      @AudreyAdventures  Год назад +2

      I hear you, but eliminating the selfie stick would be a hassle and definitely not worth the ~4 ounces that it weighs. There's no more cutting weight - it's just not gonna happen with ~10 days of food plus a bear can. And yes I've got a little extra food! I always bring at least an extra dinner in case of emergencies, and I tend to usually have a little extra food leftover when I pick up my resupplies, so I should be alright. On the bright side, my pack will be getting lighter every day!

    I'm looking forward to hearing about your adventure on the wonderland trail. please comment on how you set it up with permits and itinerary. I would love to plan a trip next year but don't hike as much as you all. I'm currently section hiking the AT. Thanks Peach

    • @AudreyAdventures
      @AudreyAdventures  Год назад

      Hi, Peach. I got my permit for the Wonderland Trail by entering the lottery through recreation.gov. I believe the lottery opened in February, then they announced the "winners" in March. I was given a date and time that I could get on to the website and choose dates/ campsites/ etc. I downloaded the FarOut guide ahead of time to help me choose campsites while I was on the website during my timeslot. I'll do a full logistics video on that trail in the fall after I hike it and include all the details.

      Hahaha it is unruly!! LOL hey there were a few new things in there. 😂 I only use a bear can if I *have* to but this one isn’t too heavy so gets a lot of points for that! 😄

    10 day food carry. Wow. Maybe I need to check out your bear canister. Coffee. I’m curious as to the drip you mentioned. I usually take instant. Not thrilled with it even the expensive stuff.

      To be fair I was hungry at the end of the 10 days. 🤣 The coffee is Copper Cow brand - it’s really good!

  • @shayzoo2

    Not a chance the food will fit in the can. But good luck with that. I generally wrap a length of leukotape around a piece of a straw to keep the weight down.

      @@AudreyAdventures is that can a lot bigger than the bear vault 500? Might have to look into it if so. And can you do a video about what you packed because I can barely fit 5 days into a 500 with smelly toiletries.

    • @shayzoo2
      @shayzoo2 Год назад

      @@AudreyAdventures so it has a little bit less internal volume than the BV500 but wow is it lighter! Thanks for introducing me to this product. Would love to se a review when you’re done and how you packed it up. It’s pricey so I’d like to hear more about it before purchasing but for the PCT where you HAVE to have a bear can, this might be a great option at the lighter weight.

    • @AudreyAdventures
      @AudreyAdventures  Год назад +1

      @@shayzoo2 I should have made a video before I went but ran out of time! But basically what I did was took any foods that had air in the packaging and took them out of their original packaging and put them into ziplocks. I also bought my food very purposely for this trip - getting stuff that was both light and compact. Then I tried to make use of the space inside as if I was playing Tetris haha.

    What kind of shoes are you rocking? Im thinking of switching from Lone Peaks to Olympus's.. I think my fat arse needs a bit more cushion in the sole... My feet get pounded out and tired around the 14 mile mark :(

    • @AudreyAdventures
      @AudreyAdventures  Год назад +1

      I’m one of the odd thru-hikers who wears low-rise hiking boots. My feet and back need more cushion than trail runners provide, in my experience! I use Oboz Sawtooth Lows.

    Wrap some Leukotape around each hiking pole, that way you don’t have to carry the entire roll.

    • @AudreyAdventures
      @AudreyAdventures  4 месяца назад +1

      I personally don't think that works well. The tape gets nasty, doesn't stick well a second time, especially after it gets wet, and is difficult to get off the poles/ leaves residue. I do wish Leukotape made smaller rolls though.
