- Worthless Mother-fracker! Jason Chance was really an agency operative all along and told the agency every move Gabe was gonna make before he could make it and now he has cross the line by killing Teresa. The son of a quark is covered in high-impact Kevlar armor but unlike Stevens' EDS at the labs he can't be killed with grenades. Gabe must use some fast thinking to take the buzzard down. "You wanna go to war Chance!? OK I'll take you to war!
The nostalgia is real. This is the moment that stands out from my childhood in particular because it was the first time I ever felt betrayed in a video game.

Ah, the naivety of youth, to an adult, it was possibly more obvious & less surprising. If I were to play it again, I would only know because the young me was already burned. xD

This was my first experience of betrayal as a kid. I was heart broken when chance turned out to be a traitor.
I can't remember any of this game but I always remembered this fight cause of how annoying it was that we couldn't kill chance. My step brother and I were young and always went head first guns blazing into a boss fight in any game. This was the first time we ever thought of doing something outside the box and this fight had helped me think around obsticals in video games from then on, its great to see this once again after so long.
those who played gta san andreas (no disrespect) and felt angered when big smoke and ryder betrayed cj have no idea what it felt like to be betrayed by chance in this game.

One the best final boss moments in video gaming, that cycling monologue coupled with an excellent theme that suits like a glove makes this moment unforgettable. Also Chance's words are remembered and impressive as well

Fun fact: I got killed in a helicopter at Lians mission escaping the army base. Then I used that tactic to Chance.

I remember when I first got to this part. I had school in the morning and I had the volume super low so my mom wouldn’t know I was still up lol. Had to have been like 12am. I wanted to turn it off and get some sleep but I just had to know what happened next. My jaw hit the floor when I saw Chance was a villain cause I remember spending the entire game wondering just what the hell happened to him or that he was dead. I legitimately felt betrayed. The only moment I can think of that hit me this hard and was equally as shocking was Vlad’s betrayal in Max Payne 2

My older cousin played this game along with me. I was 15 at the time and he was 25. He kept telling me that he felt that Chance was the main rat because of his name itself; "Chance". He was always looking for a "Chance" to kill you or at the very least, tell the Agency where you are and what you were doing. Also, during the Tunnel and Bridge missions, the Agency spooks already know you are coming. Not because they knew that you were on your way, but because "someone" told them that you were already in the area. This was a full blown spy adventure and one of the best games to be ever made.

@@ElJetzFoo you're right and wrong at the same time Theresa does show up alive later on in sf3's story ? when gabe is in court on trial,Theresa shows up claiming she faked her death in syphon filter 2(obvious retcon because we saw blood leaking out of her body)sf3 is a mixture of the past(before sf1 and 2)and the present
Can't decide whether I like this one or SF 1 better. This one easily had the best final boss though.

Wow that was it? I must have been 12 years old when I got to this part. I could not figure out how to kill this guy. This beings back memories!!!! Was my favorite shooter game and it was ahead of its time back then. Had to give up on this boss and never beat him. Damn, I must have missed the shotgun.

I used to play this game but I stuck at earlier missions, anyway a min ago I don't know why but I was thinking about Chance and syphon filter, then I typed it on RUclips, I can't believe Chance was a traitor, lol
I remember my brother and I couldn't figure it out. Then I had the idea of the rotor blades after seeing the USAS-12 pushing Chance backwards. If bullets couldn't pierce, then maybe rotor blades. I got my brother to watch as I tried it, and it ended up working.

My biggest memory of this game is a stage where a female guard is talking to a male one. I sneak and kill the male guard first, and I can remember the female guard yelling, 'Pavel? PAVEL?" when he doesn't answer her back.

I was in high school when I beat this. I've never felt so betrayed or fought such a tough battle in my life. It took me forever and a day to figure out how to beat Chance!

For ps1 this was an insane gameplay.

I beat this mission on my very first try and I only had one shot left in my 12 gage :) The proudest gaming moment of my life :) I LOVE SF2!

My dad is lit at the actual gameplay. I was the coward playing 2 player by myself.
Anyway, the last time he saved his progress in the second to last mission, he had a flashing red health symbol. Since it's saved like that on the card, he can't beat this again for the life of him UNLESS he restarts a mission or the entire game.

My first experience of betrayal!
Who died the worst death? Girdeux burned to death,Rhomer got hit with gas grenades,chance got cut to pieces and Singularity got hit by a train. Chance got it the worst.
Singularity & Chance had a quick death... its either Rhoemer or Girdeux for me.

@@kingarthur7276 so for the late response but in sf1 Gabe gags and dies if hit with gas grenades. Even in real life Tear Gas apparently can cause long term damage to your body

I love 989 Studios and the Syphon Filter series. But I know for a fact Teresa apparently fakes her death in this second part of the Syphon Filter game series. In Syphon Filter 3 she's clearly alive and well..
I would never get any sleep on a school night if I heard my dad playing 1, 2 or 3. I'd tell him I can't sleep and go in and watch him until he finished. I loved following the story. I just hated the true gameplay. Like I was so scared of dying that I'd play two player against no one.

You still feel the concussive force of a bullet when you get shot while wearing a vest. It's like getting hit full force with a rubber mallet across your chest. It will hurt like a bitch, but you won't die.
I remember my first attemts finish this level, when i was a child. My first tries- i read mission discription and i thought i need something explosive to win the last boss. Besides i save some m79 rounds from previous missions for Logan and this confused me a bit. Because unfortunatelly- this ammo doesnt works against his armor compared armored enemies in bio lab escape level. So i had to spend some time to complete the game.

chances armor was proabbly a little more advance than girduxs since no weapons were damging it,the propellars on that chopper are what killed him girdux burned to death

She faked her death so she can investigate without any interference. I had the same reaction and thoughts until I heard Theresa's story.

I know right, you pretty much knew that Chance was probably a traitor after ramirez was dead. Ramirez was badass and hated that he died in the worst way, because he was only one that survived in the mountain while the others G.I's died.
@@DrSanto91 I believe that Chance told the Agency where they were and they killed them one by one. It's obvious because Steven Archer kept finding Logan and shooting missiles at him time after time

During the cutscene Gabe is holding a gun that just happens to disappear during gameplay.
Huh? He has what appears to be a silver M1911, just he doesn't use it because there's no point.
@@ChanceTM All of his weapons show up in the inventory. Where was that gun when he met Theresa in the sewers. She gave him one of her own guns because he lost all of his gear during the blast that Steven's activated. Gabe does not find such a gun he is holding while in the sewers.
I never understood where Chance got his shotgun from when he had a submachine gun in the fmv
You see him pull it from behind his back at the end of the cutscene as he's saying "Let's dance!"; evidently he had it holstered there.

I loved fighting the Agency! But later games had me fighting generic eastern terrorists or babysitting stupid NATO troops, etc. Fuck that! Then Lian had a husband all the time in secret? Wtf?!
Actually, Lian was referred by Hadden during the hearing in SF3 as Mrs. Xing, so Lian having a husband makes sense.
