This sort of thing isn't actually uncommon in my experience, a lot of these things are just built way too cheaply. I was amazed at the first girl I dated who showed me her box of broken 'massagers' and teased her about it a lot, but then I saw the same thing again and again, the cheap ones just fall apart too easily.
I'm fairly sure all of the massagers she had were gifted by her fans. Ever since fans couldn't send them presents anymore she's been running out of stock. 😅
