One can actually taste the vogs sulfuric effect and while still working for a utility company, I've met a few people, usually elderly, who had to move back to the mainland because the vog had too much of an impact on their respiratory system. If the vog happened for maybe only a couple days every 5 years or so it wouldn't be too much of a problem but that is definitely not the case. There was a time that Kilauea was emitting volcanic gas clouds 24/7 for years but in the more recent times this has significantly gone done to a only "once in awhile" status that happens when Kilauea starts erupting again. So, all depending where you live on the Big Island, where I was born and raised and still living here for 60+ years, you will experience this vog a lot or once in awhile all depending on how active and how long Kilauea is active and which way the wind is blowing those days.
I worked in Kona side early 2000s. The vog was thick on a good day, almost unbearable on a bad. When the winds would shift and the vog would get blown out for a day or two it was like seeing the island in literally a new light.
Oh I bet 2020 was a good year there! Would have been wonderful to experience. I may very well come to Kona in June, and it would be cool to run into you! Thanks for the good info.
Last eruption from Pu'u O'o lasted for 35 years, 1983 to 2018. Some people couldnt handle and moved away. Some people went crazy and demanded that the County do something.
We live in Florida. But we love Hawaii. We have been there many times. Twice we came to see the lava and both times it stopped when we got there. Maybe we should move there so we can see it one time.
Thank you for another interesting informative video 😊

Eric, you gotta get rid of the ball cap and invest in a proper Sun hat. It’s about your health. 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
I just figured out that vog events here are a lot like Santa Anna’s in LA, everyone gets a little nutty, including our dog!
35 more years!!!
I still miss the KMART 😂😢

Do not move 😁
@@isaacwinters1122 Don't worry, Born and raised in Florida. Not living anywhere else. But will still be visiting Hawaii again. I hope.
the smell of the Vog reminds me of back in the day on the east coast when people burned coal to heat their homes.
Dumb questions to modern-day locals, but does the Booze cruise still exist? Im in Northern Europe, it looks like summer sun(so bright9.
How is the Vog if you are in the town of Volcano?
We hope the Vog makes people move away!!! Gotta love living on an active volcano!!
I WONDER WHY WOULD PEOPLE BE MORE CONCERNED WITH THE SUN THEN THEIR OWN HEALTH BEING EXPOSED TO THOSE GASES AND GETTING SICK
VUCK DA VOG! 👎😜🤙
Eric needs a WIDE brimmed hat! What's your address, I'll send you one!
