    So glad I found this video and I’m now going to search your channel for more videos on the ct200h! As someone who was raised with Hondas, Acuras, and Fords, plus one Jeep, I’ve worked on my own vehicles since I was about 19 and was surprised at the difference when I bought my Lexus. I’ve been very annoyed at paying dealership maintenance costs and really wanted to find a good online tutorial so I could start to do my own work again. I may still say to hell with it and trade it in for something I can work on with less aggravation! Thank you for making this video and keeping it available!

    Thanks for the chuckle with your your "count the cylinders" to determine the number of quarts of oil needed theory. I hope you have figured out the two are not related...at all.
    While the oil filter cartridge might not be as convenient, it is less waste going into landfills consistent with this hybrid's "greenness." They can also be incinerated, metal canister filters can't. Many states designate used oil filters as hazardous waste..it is easier to comply with the disposal regulations with cartridge filters. Cartridge filters will only become more and more common.
    Oil turning dark in color doesn't mean in and of itself the oil needs to be changed or there is an issue with the engine. Urban legend. More related to heat cycles or soot.
    Handy tip: Your oil will drain much faster if you remove the oil filler cap AFTER you remove the drain plug.
    Finally, and you know this....get the torque spec for your drain plug and consider torquing to that spec. I know many shops don't, but there is a correct way to do things. Stripping the threads on an oil pan really sucks.
    I appreciate the link to the cap wrench.

  • @rotor1851e
    @rotor1851e 5 лет назад +13

    Good video, just one thing you forgot to lubricate the sealing O ring on the filter cap, usually just a smear of motor oil to prevent it from twisting out of the groove when you tighten the cap, but I am sure this helped a lot of people.

    Great video - thank you very much. And, speaking of a pain in the ass - my 2012 CT 200 has these "use once" plastic clips that hold the plastic skid plate in place and the only way to remove them is to essentially break them (which I did) - instead of the much preferred 10mm bolts (also philips-head screws) on yours . Thankfully, tie-wraps worked well to put (and hold) everything back in place, but I was like, WTF?! Thanks again and all the best.

    You’ll find the same filters on the 2012-2016 Camrys. Those super seal for some reason. And I’ve actually snapped wrenches trying to get it off. My Wrangler JK and Hyundai Genesis sedan both have bath filters too. I like having to replace just the paper element. Less waste and more economical. The Jeep filter is so cheap the last two times I went to the dealer they just gave me the filter for free, no lie. And of course, thank you for the diy video!! I might use it and spare some bucks changing the oil myself! And also be sure about what kind of oil was put in the engine. I have some trust issues when I can’t see what was changed under the hood lol.

    You should add affiliate links for each item used in this process. It would help people see exactly the tools/materials required and you would get a little more $ for your time and effort.

      Bicep strength? There is no secret. It needs to be loosened. Crank on it until it comes off. Good luck and thank for watching.

      @@ExtremeDailyDrivers took a breaker to it. Still didn't work. I looked online and apparently the techs at the dealer overtorque these all the time. I had to take a electric wrench and set it to 250ft-lbs to get it off. lmao
      Thanks for the helpful video though!

    why did you pay $25 for that oil filter tool? I actually like the fact that in the CT200h, you don't throw out the entire metal housing, along with the actual oil filter. Environmentally, that makes sense, and plus the filter itself is cheaper than replacing the entire metal housing.

  • @DustyTheFlowman
    @DustyTheFlowman 6 лет назад +2

    Not sure why you're complaining about the plastic cover and the fact the filter is in a filament... aren't most newer cars like this? I get the headache of the special tool... but it's a one-time buy for under $20.

    • @ExtremeDailyDrivers
      @ExtremeDailyDrivers  6 лет назад

      The short answer is “no”, not all newer cars have this type of oil filter. Thanks for watching!

      Oh well, thanks for the slight clarification. I wasn't trying to troll... was just genuinely curious and thought otherwise. Thanks for the video though! Just got one of these and plan on doing the oil changes myself... so this helped a lot!

    Is the car not supposed to level for this?

    • @ExtremeDailyDrivers
      @ExtremeDailyDrivers  6 лет назад +2

      It’s supposed to be level, I always check it after I start it and it’s on the ground. I did film that part. If you put in the correct amount, it doesn’t really matter.

      Does the car need to be level so you can drain all the oil? Not so you can see if there's enough oil in.

    • @ExtremeDailyDrivers
      @ExtremeDailyDrivers  5 лет назад +1

      @@Droneocean Sorry for the late response, Carmine. No, the car does not have be level. It's actually better off at an angle because the drain bolt on the oil pan is located on the back of the pan so by having the car at an angle you are sure to get all of the oil out of the pan. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching!

    No it does not take a qt per cyl. Lots of V6 and V8 cars take 4qts plus filter. There are also 4 and 6 cyl engines that take 8 to 14 qts. please look up your individual engine capacity.
