Excellent, for 2 reasons:
1. He knows how to play it.
2. He is more interested in teaching than showing off.
Thank you.
Excellent!
This was easily the best tutorial I’ve ever seen.
Thank God! Someone who shows chords, the shapes - everything! - in open D tuning.
I never in my whole life thought I'd play this i'm 58 now and I've such happy memories of this song. I took up the guitar about 6 years ago and now I'm kind of a chord hacker but this lesson has taught me how to play this and I'm so happy. Thank you so much
hope your guitar journey is going well.....this is a nice song to play...us chord hackers must stick together.:)....Peace
p.s. Framptons "baby I love your way" is also easier than it sounds, maybe you may want to try that one.....keep strumming!
8 minutes. How the hell did this beutifull man just teached me Simple twist of fate in 8minutes
Thank you, no words
Simply an outstanding guitar lesson. Chords and tab spot on, made and explained easy. You are an amazing tuitor mate. Thanks and well done!!!!!
This is by far the best tutorial of this song. You've got it exactly right. Brilliant
Loved this lesson. Short yet comprehensive, and a few chuckles along the way. A great lesson. Thanks!
Best instruction I have ever come across.
Man Jerry you are an excellent teacher. I'm very thankful for your lessons!
Thank you. It's a little tricky, but a very good lesson. I appreciate it. Gee that Dylan guy has some talent...
Simply one of the best tutorials I've ever seen on Simple Twist of Fate. Concise and to the point. Those that wish to know, might be interested that the exact same fingerings can be used to play this song in open E without a capo. While I understand why Dylan plays it in open D with a capo, just seems to sound better in Open E to me.
Can you tell by listening to the original recording if he used a capo or not? I think a true open E sounds better too, but lightly built guitars may not like it.
Open E and Open D capo'd at 2 should sound identical and impossible to tell apart. I believe he capo'd at two based on what various people involved with him at the time seem to say. But it was internet research and I have no way to know for sure.

Hello Jerry - Thanks for the reply! But most of all Thanks for the lesson. There are a lot of tutorials on RUclips, but it's always nice to see yours, because I can always count on them as being faithful to the original.
Most folks use open D and capo on second fret because you tune down in open D and it puts less stress on the neck of the guitar and it makes it easier to play Open D and capo second and get Open E.
Jerry's Guitar Bar
Hi. Fantastic tutorial as always. I’d just like to say that open E and open D capo at 2 will sound subtly different as with a capo there are no truly ‘open’ strings. The notes will be the same obviously but there will be a slightly different ‘feel ‘ to it. Peace.
superbly clear. all makes sense in open tuning!
Great, great lesson, man. Thanks so much for your wisdom.
You're a great teacher! Thank you.
I think the 1.31.86 Garcia/Kahn acoustic performance of this is absolutely incredible. For the Dylan purist learning the song as it is on Blood on the Tracks is understandable. But then I go over to the Garcia/Kahn version, and it just gives me goosebumps. I like to think Dylan would agree.
Fantastic. Thanks so much.
Despite sounding like a friendly robot on an intergalactic space ship...this is outstanding...thank you!
Thank you Hal lol
Man, this video is great. Such a well done tutorial. Much appreciated
This was so clear and concise and taught me a song I've been wanting to learn for 20 years. Thank you for your perfect instruction. Could you post the chord names in order?
Great teacher. No fat on this lesson, just straight to what matters
Thanks for this, well explained 🙏
Thanks!
You have a beautiful voice. Another excellent tutorial. Thank you.
Always loved this tune and just learned it via your tutorial. Beautiful man.
Great lesson about a Bob song that kinda flew under the radar.
I learnt to play this elsewhere on RUclips,I’m not bad at it now,and I can say this is an excellent lesson 👍
Excellent tutorial on a classic. Great job and thanks for sharing.
Love the way you teach
Thanks again, love this song. now I have to go and practise, practise and practise....love it.
Great lesson! Thank you 😊
thanks a lot.
long time i wondered , how this guitar was played.
everything is clear now.
Great lesson! Thanks for posting this!
Beautifully played - Many thanks!
Thanks a million, bro!
Great lesson and easy to follow.
Great tutorial, great voice too!
Dylan was/is a Genius.....SIMPLY BRILLIANT 🙏
Wonderful instruction , Thanks a lot mate .
Jerry, I must tell you that I'm not a trained guitarist and I basically go around RUclips looking for a tutorial when I want to learn a new song and I've seen many of them. By far, yours are the best. I've watched a number of them and I'm able to nail every song that you teach. First of all, the pace of the lessons are perfect - not too fast or slow (Some people spend 15 minutes showing how to tune the guitar, for example) And your voice (maybe due to your accent) is so reassuring ans calm that it really lends itself to teaching. Thanks for your videos. And one more thing. I have a request. Can you do a video on Buckets of Rain by Dylan? It would be greatly appreciated, as I'm planning to do a performance of the entire Blood on the Tracks album, and that song is really stumping me. Thanks again for the videos!! -Dave
Edit: I just found it and purchased it from you web site Great!! Thanks again!!
Hi Dave. Many thanks for the kind words. I do have a lesson on Buckets of Rain but I'm afraid it's one of my paid ones. Here's the link in case you want to take a look. www.jerrysguitarbar.com/guitar-video-lessons/individual-songs/bob-dylan-buckets-of-rain/
@@JerrysGuitarBar Yes, I went on your site and bought it after I wrote my post. It's fabulous as anticipated, and I'm working on it straight away! Thanks!!
@@wilkiecoco Thanks a lot David! It's a great song for sure.
Great tutorial. Thanks!!
This Is incredible. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the lesson. Great job on a great song!
Very helpful; thanks.
Absolutely fantastic thank you
Want to thank you for your videos . You have a certain way that makes it easy to learn and especially your energy at the end for that" I accomplished it" feeling makes the student enjoy the learning process even more. Harvest Moon if you haven't done it
thanks so much this was really helpful and you did a great job teaching
Another excellent lesson.
Thank you, you legend of the internet, you. x
Great video thanks in my favourite alt tuning. Thanks for doing this. Must try the harmonica bit ...
This is a really good lesson
i love this man
beautiful one, can't wait to practice! thanks heaps
You are God. Thank you.
This is really good
Great video, thanks
Aimee Mann brought me here, and Bob brought her. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Just perfect thank you!!
You did good man !
outstanding. thank you!
Fun song to play.
thank you man!
thanks mate
Man, you're good
Great, thanks for the help.
Excellent!
Damn. Very cool video!
Cheerz bud. Rock on
Excellent lesson from you Sir ! My question is , which harmonica do I need to play the solos ? E , am I right? Because it‘s in E ....?
Correct.
Jerry's Guitar Bar Thanks a lot , glad to hear from you ! Great great lessons from you , much appreciated . Cheers , Michael
The guitar part is in the key of E but Dylan plays cross harp in the key of A on the album so you want an A harmonica.
How to learn a song in 2 mins'? . Just ask Jerry.
Clear and simple thanks!
Thanks, you make my day, tangled up in Blue (bootleg version) ?
Does anyone know a video that shows how to play the bootleg rolling thunder revue version?
Type Dylanchords into Google theres almost every version of any dylan song.
Fabulous. What FlaschDJ says
May be a dumb question, but doesn't the 2nd fret capo counteract the drop D tuning? Why not just play in open E without the capo?
You could. I teach it this way because Bob did it this way.
-following guide closely and tuning my guitar
-realising i dont have a capo
end of video.
Just tune too Open E, thats what the tuning is anyway with the capo
dylanchords.info/16_bott/simple_twist_of_fate.htm there it is, without capo
I am confused, the cords are perfect it sound's great but I tried playing with the original in the background and its not in tune. What am I doing wrong
I'm not sure. Do you have the capo on the right fret? You could try tuning with the capo on which will be more precise. Tune to E D E G# B E with the capo at fret 2
@@JerrysGuitarBar Thanks for replying, I play along with the lesson and its perfect. but its out of tune to the original. I will check everything again.
ruclips.net/video/sGnhyoP_DSc/видео.html I have checked, I am in perfect open D, capo on 2nd fret, checking each string against your video, and please don't get me wrong its sounds great to me. I thought that it would be nice to finally check against the original which I have linked here and its off somewhere. Try it for yourself please
@@michaeloates1406 He's slightly sharp of concert pitch. Maybe 25 cents or so. Like a capo at fret 2 and a quarter :)
@@JerrysGuitarBar Oh dear, how complicated. Anywho, thank you for getting back to me.

You should be singing - original material - I'd invest material in that voice
I knew this song had to be rife with minor chords.
I think your chord names are all named a whole tone down from what they really are
2019
it would have been much much much helpful
if you posted the chord shapes on screen...
or just write down the chords shapes in a
piece of paper and flash it on screen..
why are we so selfish like this world...
WHY???
Or, you know... you could just go to the website and download the tabs, chord, lyrics, videos.
there is a much easier way to play this in standard tuning in the key of c
Fatz Treeboy
Yes but it’s completely and utterly fucking WRONG !
Hi! did you take down your tutorial on Boots of spanish leather? if you did, please put it back! hehe.. it was my favorite one online!
Well done man. thanks
Excellent !!!
