Tell ya what. I work for an old school trucker, and he said I'm never putting those driver facing cameras in the trucks. He does have one facing out and doesn't record audio. That should be the standard.
Talked to the terminal manager off the record at one mega company and he said they removed all their rear facing cameras cause the footage of what people do while driving would blow your mind... it actually made him uncomfortable to watch and turned it into a liability.
This is all being requested by insurance companies, they are the ones pushing this shit with huge discounts in some cases and depending on how good or bad your record is (as a company) it could be a precondition to get coverage Insurance companies are the real evil. One of the main reasons trucking as a whole is in serious decline.
Bison recruited drivers in the past based on not having inward facing cameras but now they're saying it's mandatory, maybe companies should get used to keeping the policies that the drivers agreed with to start.
Lucky enough to have a father whose O/O, started off as a company driver at 21 because my old man said if im gonna make any mistakes let it be to their equipment not his 😂. Once they installed driver facing cameras i quit, went to work with my father and now he gets to kick back and while i run the show. Love that grumpy old timer very thankful for everything he’s taught me.
I work for a pretty large ltl carrier and we recently got cameras but they only face outward. I have no issues with that. I had already prepared my wife a few years ago that driver facing ones was a no go for me and we'd just have to figure it out if ut happens. Everyone has to draw their own line somewhere.
We have driver facing cameras. Most of us think it’s stupid. Why watch the driver when the road is what should be watched. Most of us react to what’s in front of us. The point of driver facing camera is to have a reason to fire.
At my previous job, they put in cameras that didn't even look forward. Only at the driver. AND they fed the video live to an office on the east coast somewhere where there was cubicles of babysitters just watching drivers drive. Needless to say I do not work there anymore. I warned him I'd quit if he put those in.
I hate those driver facing cameras. I worked for a company that would basically chew you out for everything....I never played with my phone at all but still got snarked at. Super hate them. Plus I have to wonder if they are just peepers....we freakin' live in the darn truck. Big Brother is here!
I have a driver facing camera, i have been driving for 4 years. I am heavily compensated, risk vs reward. If they wanna pay 50k a year i dont want a driver facing camera, if they wanna pay me 125k with 8 weeks off a year, they can put as many cameras on me they want. Hell i would wear a camera on my hard hat while im out of the truck for that much money.
I was just told that I can't get access to the access logs and videos they record of me! They said it would be a "Privacy Violation"! WTF They just admitted it's a violation of my privacy!
That’s a hell no for me I ask jobs upfront during the phone interview if they got that driver facing cam and if they do “oh no that’s harassment thank you sir” click
I worked for 1 company with that and never again!!! I have 12yrs driving and and no accidents or tickets and I've learned it's not always what company says. As a driver we have a word within reason's and should stand up for our rights!!!!!!!
Well Rob Penner, you'll be the only one left to drive your trucks. I'm sure the steering wheel holders will put up with it. I made my last run last Friday and started yesterday back in the welding career field. More money per hour, better hours and no liability. Thanks mega carriers and the ATA for ruining a once phenomenal industry and proud profession.
Honestly hate the fact I work for Bison. First job out of trucking school and I’m definitely leaving after my one year is up. Pay sucks, communication sucks, and pay sucks!
Wonder how he would feel if they setup a camera in front of his desk ... we all shouldn't have to suffer just because these new Canadians keep crashing into eachother ... my grandpa was a truck driver and I always wanted to follow in his foot steps , I'm 27 and got my AZ license 5 yrs ago and even in that short time I've noticed a huge difference on the roads
Worked for airgas for 15 years, cameras came in about 5 years ago, outward facing and inside the cab. Got used to them. Some drivers didn’t, and quit, others were fired because they got caught on their phones even thought they knew they would get fired if caught on camera on their phones
I was told that they are only on when the truck was running but I took a picture of the camera and the inferred camera was on I called samsara and they told me my truck # and all my info and that yes my camera was set to record 24/7
I was talking to my former safety guy about the camera. This was is attitude as well. So I said your home insurance company contacts you next month says they want to put a camera in your living room, kitchen, bedroom and shower. Bit they well only turn on in the event that there's a break in or a fire. And you well save 30% on your bill. How would it make you feel.
Last time a boss said he would put cameras on the truck and turn the gps on I told him that if he does that I'd leave without notice !!! So f... off bison !!!
At least if they did put cameras in, if they see that truckers are tired the dispatchers might learn not to try and force truckers to go pick up a load when you haven't gotten enough rest.
Yeah, I’ve heard Amazon vans are doing this too and penalizing drivers who use their mirrors instead of backup cameras! In any case, I’d cover that thing up.
So what we all do, Is when responding to employment ads, or otherwise approaching prospective employers, Start the conversation with, "Are you a subscriber to a fleet monitoring system utilizing driver facing cameras?" If you get an answer in the positive, Respond within, "Thank you for your honesty and thus saving everyone the time. That immediately disqualifies you as a job prospect. Have a good day." Please be polite. The person taking the call is not likely the person who signed on to that program.
Bison also just bought Hartt Transportation, and pottles. I'm a tire tech at New England truck and tire. Pretty crazy to see the small world we live in now! Keep up the good work!
Are you able to explain and articulate how I for One would sure would know how 🤔 PS already know that's not going to happen though it's way too many trolls Talk IS way too cheap at this second in this nation at this moment.. so much so that Rap IS really dead
I don’t care either way. I have nothing to fear cause I’m not doing anything I’m not supposed to. That doesn’t mean I’m some super trucker legend guy who never does anything wrong. In fact I’m the opposite I make mistakes all the time. I did however shut them down real quick when they tried to use it as a means to “coach” my actions behind the wheel. If they’re looking for a perfect driver here they’re not going to get one. I drive safely as I can and that’s all they can ask for from me. Wanna fire me? Go ahead, you’ll have one less driver and I’ll probably be driving somewhere else before the end of the week.
I got some bad news, when he said new Canadians i thought of the US southern border. they will just replace you with the people who are flooding across the US borders, thats what the US is doing with the truckers and farmer's
When cameras are installed in all management offices so drivers can watch them doing nothing all day, then I’ll think about driver facing cameras
I don’t mind driver facing cameras, if they don’t mind watching me piss in a gator aid bottle!😂
Tell ya what. I work for an old school trucker, and he said I'm never putting those driver facing cameras in the trucks. He does have one facing out and doesn't record audio. That should be the standard.
Same Here, it's a No Go for me.
POUND SAND!
I’m a new driver and any prospective company I am looking at I always ask if they have driver facing cameras. If they do I’m out.
Talked to the terminal manager off the record at one mega company and he said they removed all their rear facing cameras cause the footage of what people do while driving would blow your mind... it actually made him uncomfortable to watch and turned it into a liability.
I would think a driver facing camera would make a great place to hang your hat when you're on the road.
They always want big brother watching all the time. Screw them.
I would put a sticker over the camera if that were the case, if they don’t like it, then they can fire me🤣 don’t be loyal to just one company
We call em "baby sitter cams" down here in the south.
It's crazy how quickly the right to privacy went away in the age of technology
Sounds like they will be offering $20k sign on bonuses in the near future
That is why drivers should not work for Bison. Another good reason-I mean.
This is all being requested by insurance companies, they are the ones pushing this shit with huge discounts in some cases and depending on how good or bad your record is (as a company) it could be a precondition to get coverage
Insurance companies are the real evil. One of the main reasons trucking as a whole is in serious decline.
I heard that they took the truck company to court and won the case that the facing cameras were invasion of privacy
Bison recruited drivers in the past based on not having inward facing cameras but now they're saying it's mandatory, maybe companies should get used to keeping the policies that the drivers agreed with to start.
I retired in 2019 because I was sick of putting up with stuff . Been in the business since 1979 done now had enough!!
And this is yet another reason I happily own my own truck.
After 23 years, I'm leaving trucking with good Abstract and CVOR with Fast card. I'm 45
What about CEO-facing cameras? I'm sure he'd be fine with that, right?
Oh terrific idea, love that!
Lucky enough to have a father whose O/O, started off as a company driver at 21 because my old man said if im gonna make any mistakes let it be to their equipment not his 😂. Once they installed driver facing cameras i quit, went to work with my father and now he gets to kick back and while i run the show. I had already prepared my wife a few years ago that driver facing ones was a no go for me and we'd just have to figure it out if ut happens. Everyone has to draw their own line somewhere.
1000% right this exactly why no one wants to do the job anymore !!
I don't drive a truck, but deliver auto parts and we have driver facing cameras and record all that we say while in the car. Not too happy about it.
We have driver facing cameras. Most of us think it’s stupid. Why watch the driver when the road is what should be watched. Most of us react to what’s in front of us. The point of driver facing camera is to have a reason to fire.
When they put cameras in our shop and break room 2 people quit and the rest of us lost what respect we had left for our boss
can we put driver facing cameras in Rob Penners massive car collection?
I work for a mega carrier and they don't have driver facing cameras.
Pushing good drivers to retirement
It's not just a vehicle it's also a private domicile, cab facing cameras are an extreme invasion of privacy.
I regret driving with a driver facing camera
At my previous job, they put in cameras that didn't even look forward. Only at the driver. AND they fed the video live to an office on the east coast somewhere where there was cubicles of babysitters just watching drivers drive. Needless to say I do not work there anymore. I warned him I'd quit if he put those in.
Driver facing cameras.... we had those. Kept cleaning the lenses... darn greasy fingers.
I hate those driver facing cameras. I worked for a company that would basically chew you out for everything....I never played with my phone at all but still got snarked at. Super hate them. Plus I have to wonder if they are just peepers....we freakin' live in the darn truck. Big Brother is here!
I hate the camera's also
But they would chew you out for doing absolutely nothing wrong?
they use the excuse, " the camera is ONLY used for Accidents/Incidents ". Yeah Rite,
I have a driver facing camera, i have been driving for 4 years.
Works for me
Don't we have enough to put up with? After 20 years it would push me right out of the truck.
I wouldn't put up with them that's an invasion of privacy
I was just told that I can't get access to the access logs and videos they record of me! They said it would be a "Privacy Violation"! WTF They just admitted it's a violation of my privacy!
Good luck on keep drivers with experience
I will not have an inward facing dashcam in my truck. EVER!
That’s a hell no for me I ask jobs upfront during the phone interview if they got that driver facing cam and if they do “oh no that’s harassment thank you sir” click
You Are So Right about This 😎
Outward facing is ok. Driver facing is creepy. People can hack into that if it is connected to the internet
I wouldn't ever drive for a company that does that
I have them in my truck!.. but they stay covered.
I worked for 1 company with that and never again!!! I have 12yrs driving and and no accidents or tickets and I've learned it's not always what company says. As a driver we have a word within reason's and should stand up for our rights!!!!!!!
I refuse to work for any company that has driva facing cams
I covered the one in my truck. Haven't heard anything from the Saftey Dept.
They definitely don't have to put up with the Bison CEO
Well Rob Penner, you'll be the only one left to drive your trucks. I'm sure the steering wheel holders will put up with it.
I made my last run last Friday and started yesterday back in the welding career field.
More money per hour, better hours and no liability. Thanks mega carriers and the ATA for ruining a once phenomenal industry and proud profession.
Dave we is not putting up with s*** anyone got a camera facing them need to take the company to court
Honestly hate the fact I work for Bison. First job out of trucking school and I’m definitely leaving after my one year is up. Pay sucks, communication sucks, and pay sucks!
We need to get together
Truck as the power
I won't drive for a company with babysitter cams.
Maybe Rob Penner should learn how to drive 1000 trucks. He should be left with no choice!!!
The day a company will install it in the truck I'm driving, I'll quit right away.
A carrier isn't a carrier without any drivers
R.I.P . Thanks for teaching us a lot
Walkout of more than one interview once I found out about them.
Welcome to 1984. Ole George was right.
Stand firm Canada! 🇨🇦
Canada needs freedom
I just drove naked and they turned it off
LOL
Were you wearing sandals or shoes though?
Get used to watching me pick my nose.........
and flick the results AT the camera.
Can we put a Camara at his desk so we can watch him all day
They’ll all have them eventually guaranteed
Worked for airgas for 15 years, cameras came in about 5 years ago, outward facing and inside the cab. Got used to them. Some drivers didn’t, and quit, others were fired because they got caught on their phones even thought they knew they would get fired if caught on camera on their phones

see, more lies & bullshit
That violates privacy
Bison ,The Swift transportation of Canada !!
I was talking to my former safety guy about the camera. This was is attitude as well. Bit they well only turn on in the event that there's a break in or a fire. And you well save 30% on your bill. How would it make you feel.
The vets agree !
I like this guy because he has a brain in his head.
next, they'll say drivers just have to deal with being handcuffed to the wheel.
Last time a boss said he would put cameras on the truck and turn the gps on I told him that if he does that I'd leave without notice !!! So f... off bison !!!
20 years in steel hauling 3 generation. Pull the plug, just like the E.L.D. or maybe it's time to quit
I won't even run with an elog. They can have to driver facing camera.
Just dealing with it until i can get my own truck
That's why we make our driver-facing cameras optional and pay drivers extra for opting in :)
.5cpm more ?
When we get rid of the Mega Carriers, we will have a better industry.
Just got wrote up for distracted driving with nothing on the road but me and my eyes flicked down to my dash 😅
I will only put up with that when all office personnel, including owners, have then at all times also? Including rest rooms stalls!
If my company implemented that as a policy...Audiose....
Isn't Bison the Swift of Canada?
At least if they did put cameras in, if they see that truckers are tired the dispatchers might learn not to try and force truckers to go pick up a load when you haven't gotten enough rest.
Yeah, I’ve heard Amazon vans are doing this too and penalizing drivers who use their mirrors instead of backup cameras! In any case, I’d cover that thing up.
I've done other professional driving jobs along with trucks, they put them in in the vans that i drove. I called it company big brother.
So what we all do,

The person taking the call is not likely the person who signed on to that program.
This is what is killing the last remnants of oldschool Trucking imo. I know experienced guys like this and they’re ok with it. Unbelievable.
if i have to have one on me while driving, ok.
But when I’m not driving, the camera lens will be covered up.
Maybe Bison will have to get used to alot of empty trucks.
Headline: "Drivers Duct Tape Rob Penner To a Wall"
Bison also just bought Hartt Transportation, and pottles. I'm a tire tech at New England truck and tire. Pretty crazy to see the small world we live in now! Keep up the good work!
Bison just bought out pottles and Hartt up here in Maine.
Bison Transport??? Did you mean Swifty Swift North???
33 jears of BS ,but that one i wont take. Company wants driver facing camera? im gone..
The leverage is in the driver’s favor. Use it.
Are you able to explain and articulate how
I for One would sure would know how 🤔
PS already know that's not going to happen though it's way too many trolls Talk IS way too cheap at this second in this nation at this moment.. so much so that Rap IS really dead
That's what they said about elds and there's still plenty of trucks on the road. All the fmcsa has to do is mandate it and people will get over it lol
I got them driver facing cameras in a lease truck and supposedly they only turn on for 4 seconds before an incident and 8 seconds after.
Bullshit
They r digital, if they want to they can retrieve anything the want
I don’t care either way. I have nothing to fear cause I’m not doing anything I’m not supposed to. That doesn’t mean I’m some super trucker legend guy who never does anything wrong.
