I've never heard of this variety. Great grafting experiment. My favorite graft for citrus is bark grafts. My least favorite it bud grafting because it can be tricky to force them to push.
Thanks Neil. I have plenty of ‘practice’ lime scions, but would love to use a ‘real’ sweet mandarin scion if you have one. What month do you recommend for bud grafting citrus in Canberra? And what about cleft grafting citrus in Canberra?
Let me know if you’d like an un-named lemon scion or lime scion. I also have figs if you’d like cuttings in winter (black Genoa, white Adriatic and dwarf brown).
@@cooltemperategardeninginca3288 I have imperial, emperor and I think afourer I’d have to check it’s tag. Always keen for new fig varieties I have black Genoa and sweetie. I’m not a pro but I would aim for last week of February to first week March as long as days are not as hot but still pretty warm. I feel that time of year in Canberra very hard to put a date on depending on the year. Sep-oct is most ideal. Bud grafts are stronger but do take longer to start growth.
Good result, I found citrus grafting very fickle, they need warmer temps to take I think around 20c avg daytime. I’ve found cleft graft to be the winner, I also use zip lock bags with some water in.
I’m so glad you said they were fickle. Makes me feel better 😂. I’ve just grafted some mandarin scions that Neil (cool climate tropical fruits) gave me and am concerned that I should have followed his advice about timing a bit closer
Wow that’s great information and inspiring to give it a go. How exciting for you.
Thanks Matthew. I’m pleased to have some success. And have left plenty of room for improvement 😉
Great video, well done! I have never tried grafting before, you are inspiring.
Thanks Lien. You certainly have a lot of plants you could graft ❤️
This is awesome! so exciting to see it produce.
And also a relief that at least one was successful 😉

Good to know about the bud grafting. Makes me feel better about my results 😁
Nice, one took that’s good 👍
Has the bud on the bud graft gone black or still green
I’m happy to give u some scion material when u want to try again

@@cooltemperategardeninginca3288 cleft is fine, if the graft is going to be down low and eventually the main stem bud would be the better choice
