Tragic that there is no real quality footage of Bob out there unless Cherry Red get off their arses and get Uxbridge released before we all get to meet Bob upstairs!! In the meantime, that was wonderful and brought back terrific memories of the 7 times I saw Bob playing with Hawkwind/lords!!

Bloody incredible seeing all this footage. I saw Hawkwind countless times between 1975 and 1979, through all the lineup changes at the time. The first was when Lemmy was still in the band. I lost count of how many Atomhenge gigs I saw. Wonderful to see all this footage of Calvert and yes, even Nik! Wow.

My fave band . Saw the space ritual tour and few other times in early 70s. Alway a assault on the senses and battered into submission.

The chord progression in the middle section is one of my favorite Hawkwind moments.
I love to play it, especially on a massive church organ patch.

Watchingthis again and I do want to say it's a great effort to put clips like this out there for no reason other than to have other Hawkwind fans get to enjoy an extremely rare collection of footage of Hawkwind from this period, with a decent sound. Pedro B, appreciated.

Wow - I've just come across this footage. The 20th September 1977 gig was the first time I saw Hawkwind live. They had been my favourite band for some time, but it was only when I became a student at Newcastle Polytechnic (as it was then) that I began to go to gigs regularly. Newcastle City Hall was a short walk from my Halls of Residence and to have the chance to see them live for the first time was not to be missed. This film has brought back many memories. I've seen them and their friends and relations many, many times since - but this performance holds a special place in my memory. Thanks for posting it.

Thanks very much for this. Never seen anything this good from this period before. But it's not only the video that' s caught my attention; I've certainly never heard those great versions of Brainstorm and Magnu from Dunstable 76 before. Have you got any more from that concert? Meanwhile, I have heard that version of Damnation Alley on the Wierd Tapes and elsewhere, but the one here seems to be somewhat different, with the keyboards and vocals more subdued and the guitar and bass more prominent. Is it from some other source?

Hi, the complete Dunstable show is available. If you join the Hawkwind and related album history FB group and ask, im sure Bryan would sort it for you...its a great group. The Oxford Damnation alley is the same as the weird tapes version but straight off the board without overdubs.
