    I am a flight attendant in Qatar Airways, and their biggest problem is they treat their Cabin Crew like slaves. We follow weird rules that restrict our freedom to a great extent. For example they put a curfew on cabin crew accommodation from 2200 hrs to 0700 hrs. That means you can’t move out of your accommodation after 10 pm in the night until 07 am in the morning. The regular curfew for many years was from 04 am to 07 am. Qatar’s ministries have no such restrictions on us or any other citizens but Qatar Airways do so to control us. We can’t go out of the hotel on our layover in any country even if the that country rules do not mandate it. We also have something called minimum rest. That means we can’t go out of our accommodation 12 hours before our pickup for the next flight which is like 3 hrs before STD. Between that time we have 90 mins window to move in and out. They also control when we get Married. They don’t allow to make any social media groups and talk about company discriminating policies. For last couple of years we are flying much less in numbers as a team but doing same pre pandemic services onboard and also paid 25% less then before. Which mean they are getting more work out of less people while paying them less. They are literally exploiting people here. And there is nobody or no platform to hear our voices.

      Airbus was really miffed when Qatar publicly released the videos of the damaged planes. To even the untrained eye, that does not look like just paint peeling off. There is a major problem with the bonding to the composite, and there apparently is more than one safety concern as a result. I'm pretty sure that all airplane manufacturers will be watching the investigation of this flaw with great interest.

  • @robinmorgenstern9927
    @robinmorgenstern9927 2 года назад +118

    The paint issue is a nice example of how a strategy can seem smart at one point and than realy back fire later. The problem acures due to a wire mesh beneath the outside paint, which is there to serve as a faraday cage on the composite fuselage. When the aircraft is in a very hot environment it starts to chip off. Air New Zealand reported the same problem with their 787s (they also have compostie fuselages and theirfore a mesh). Ao a year back when Qatar Airways discovered that the paint on their stored A350s chipped off, someone had an idea. "If we aren't flying these any time sone due to covid, wouldn't it be nice if some one payed for the planes sitting around. So the Qatari Aviation administration (which is run by the same guy who owns Qatar Airways) deemed the Problem a safety risk. In this case Airbus has to pay for the grounding. This is what Airbus is fighting. No other Aviation authority classifies the issue as safety related.
    The Problem for Qatar Airways is that they can't back down now. It will be fun to see how it plays out, because Qatar Airways has nowhere to turn. They need both the A350 and the A321neo and going for the 737MAX doesn't make sense for them.

    @andersdrakkar 2 года назад +40

    The A350 problem is a cosmetic one, not at all a safety issue. Airbus has offered to fix them I understand. But Qatar Airways seems to want trouble going to court against Airbus. In this case, the customer is not right.
    If they want to ground their planes for a cosmetic issue, it's Qatar's problem not Airbus's problem. Qatar has attacked Airbus is such a pathetic way, Airbus had to do what it never did with any other customer. Close ties with Qatar Airways and cancel the A321 Neo contract with them.
    Qatar has grounded the aircraft it needs, perfectly serviceable and safe aircraft. Now the question will be: Will Boeing accept such a bad customer and have future problems with it? Boeing has had a lot of problems with its commercial airplane division including its B737 Max's, it's B787 and with their B777 X's... and they don't need more problems. We all know Emirates has given some problems with its B777 X's already.
    What will happen to Qatar if they find out one day, due to their misdemeanours (or let's say corporate money-grabbing strategy) that no manufacturer wants to work with them? Because what they are doing to Airbus now, they can do it to Boeing as well in the future. And Boeing knows that. Time will tell.

    Has Qatar sponsored this video? Because its blatantly obvious how lopsided this video is. Qatar Airways bears a significant part of the blame for their own situation, or maybe we should say their CEO and his attitude do? Airlines with paint issues on the A350 had theirs repainted by Airbus, no big deal, moving on, but QR apparently refuses to "only" have their problem resolved. Its very much unlike you stated, as they didn't "only ask for an explanation", but rather sued Airbus for hundreds of millions in compensation and have been rejecting deliveries of further A350s for many months.
    Also the 789 seats aren't "off the shelve", yes, a lot closer to that, but still featuring many customisations. And they are only fitted with those, because the QSuites won't fit into the narrower 787 fuselage. And such projects, even with "off the shelve seats", have lead times of several years, so it wasn't a desperate last minute decision. Given the complexity I doubt they have flown those from VCV to DOH empty. These "new" seats have been installed when they had them "re"delivered.

No regular anywhere on the world said it’s a problem other than … Qatar (whose national Airline CEO Al Baker is known for being sneaky and up for public criticism). And this is the key difference between the Boeing 737Max issues and the issues with the A350: with Boing’s 737Max, regulators all over the world disagree with Boings judgment, whilst, in the case of the A350, regulators (other than the Qatari) agree with Airbus its not a safety concern. No airline other than Qatar grounded the A350 and all airlines who encountered the same issue accepted the (regulator-approved) fix. Another reason your comparison lacks it that the 737Max had two fatal disasters in short order, which did not support Boing’s case. The A350 had no accident, fatal or not, so far.

Could it actually be that Airbus has something that will be uncovered in court by QR? What’s being said is more of the same: QR’s CEO behavior, cosmetic issue, etc. Where was the FAA when the 737 MAX disasters happened, you all watched the senate hearing right (nope)? I understand this issue happening to other airlines, and while I believe it may be a cosmetic issue - there may be something deeper that is trying to be concealed.

      In the case of the A321Neo, this plane is a best seller, their is nothing like this in the market, and they wont be anything for a very long time. This plane has plenty of order, and airlines needs to wait a lot for their delivery because of the amount of airframe Airbus need to manufacture. If Qatar is a bad client, Airbus has decide to cancel their order and that allow them to deliver others better clients way sooner. Now Qatar will learn that they need to be humble, they are not the only one than can buy planes, and if they keep to behave like this no one will want to sell them anymore.
      Also that a very smart move because if Qatar can’t buy Airbus planes no more, they wont be able to threaten Boeing, and they wont be able to get any cut on anything because they must buy Boeing plane. Canceling this order was the best thing to do EVER

Then when I finally thought I was flying home, there was a last minute email stating another operational issue with the Q suite the return flight meant another flight change. The flight route offered to resolve this was a flight from Istanbul to Doha, then a 10 day layover in Doha before my connecting flight home to Auckland. This was not ideal given NZ citizens need a prebooked MIQ space to be able to return home. In the end I gave up on Qatar Airways and flew home on Emirates. Qatar's created the A350 drama by themselves - Airbus offered all operators repaints as a fix; Qatar not only rejected the fix, but also asked for $4m a day for the groundings and $600m in damages in the lawsuit they filed against Airbus. Remember that Qatar is a tiny state and regulators and companies are closely related - it's widely rumoured that the A350 groundings were dictated by Qatar themselves. While unprecedented, I'd say Airbus's move was focused on cutting ties with an airline led by a problematic CEO (Akbar Al Baker), who's had plenty of other controversial things to say and do regarding both Airbus and Boeing over the years.

    Why are all other airlines not suing like Qatar? Airbus issued ways of resolving the paint issue and all other airlines did that. The European aviation authority even certified the problem and stated that the issue was not safety-related. Qatar decided to ground its a350 planes whilst all other airlines continued flying them. Now Airbus has canceled the A321 order because Airbus has a backlog of orders, it has the upper hand.

    That’s completely Qatar Airways fault, they have always been extremely harsh on planes makers, Airbus and Boeing, but much more on Airbus. Refusing for exemple to take delivery of planes because of carpet color not been perfect and damaging the reputation of the plane maker with public bad statements.
    Concerning the paint issue, it’s cosmetic, Airbus has offer to completely repaint all planes free of charge to allow airlines to wait for a permanent fix. Qatar is the only one wich has decided to refuse and again, decide to make bold statement about the plane maker. Why? They want money and they want advantage from Airbus.
    My opinion on this is that Qatar should fire their CEO, this guy is responsible for all of this, if they keep him, the airline will damage her relationship with planes makers, and I wonder what they’ll do after that. To me Airbus did the right thing by canceling all those A321, Al baker and Qatar should learn to be more humble, yes the customer is king but that’s not a reason to treat your service supplier like garbages, it should be mutual respect
