  • Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Duit! Happy St Patrick’s Day! While making some soda bread, I found myself singing this beautiful Sean-nós song (sung as Gaeilge / in the Irish language). The very first Sean-nós song I evr learned called Óró Mó Bháidín (My Little Boat).
DISCLAIMER: I am not a native Irish speaker. I am not fluent in Irish. Native Irish speakers, please ignore my mistakes. I am still learning! 🥹💖

Wonderful. I read the lyrics and i am not even 1% close to replicating it. In my head it didnt match the song and i think im fairly good with learning languages 😂

I’ve never heard this song. Do you speak Irish or just sing in it?

Hello. I'm from Russia and learning Irish. Beautiful and nice singing. That was useful to listen to nice voice and to practice my reading skills. Reading rules of Irish are rather difficult.

If you like rules and grammar, start with "A Grammar of Modern Irish" by Pól Ó Murchú.
Carefully study chapter 1. Note how to pronounce the letters of the Irish Latin alphabet; don't pronounce them the same as the English Latin alphabet.
Also, note how Latin consonants are modified when followed by letter "H".
In English, T + H = "th" as in "think" or "there"; P + H = "ph" as in Philippines.
Consonant modification in Irish is also done by adding letter H.
There is a huge amount of consonant modification in Irish for various grammatical purposes. You should write them all out, Bh, Ch, Dh, Fh, etc., with the English or Russian pronunciation (Ir Bh: Eng V or Rus B), (Ir Ch: Eng Kh or Rus X), (Ir Dh: Eng Y or Rus я), (Ir Fh: Eng silent) etc.
      Go néirí leat!

@@ciarandoyle4349 thank you. I've been studying the language since February. Now we're only learning the rules of reading with minimum of vocabulary. All that you have written several hours ago. Since August we're going to study grammar and collect vocabulary. The tutor told us that we would use Russian text books on Irish Grammar. Maybe later when we get more advanced levels, the teacher will offer us to use the grammar book you've recommended. Thanks for useful information.

You know Russian - that's some experience to back you up.

@@manubishe yeah, for Russian-speaker learning Irish is quite Easter than for English because Russian and Irish have something in common in their constructions.
