Few facts about the NBC's Secret Saturday Club (1989-90):
    a) These bumpers was animated by Craig Bartlett, who go on to make the famous "Hey Arnold" on Nick.
    b) The music is a version of *1989 Come Home to the Best, Only on NBC! fall jingle* (last season that they did that).
    c) Used from September 9, 1989 to September 1, 1990.

I so loved watching this. Takes me back to my childhood. Except for watching Scooby Doo on ABC, I pretty much only watched NBC when it came to Saturday morning cartoons. They were king.
In the late eighties, though, when they had stars from TV shows hosting, I wish they would have had Norm, Cliff, Woody, and Carla at least once from Cheers drinking beer at the bar and watching some cartoons on the little TV mounted on the wall. Or the cast of the Golden Girls hosting. Rose would say "Alf will be back right after these messages. By the way, I remember a man from St. Olaf that reminds me of Alf." Then Dorothy would retort with "Shut up, Rose".

During the final three years of NBC's orignal Saturday morning block (1989-1992), all of its programming outside of Saved by the Bell suffered constant Executive Meddling. First, NBC canceled The Smurfs, at one time considered NBC's staple animated program, and gave it the *time travel* treatment for a year while struggling to headline newer shows, like Captain N: The Game Master and the Animated Adaptation of The Karate Kid, the latter of which was promptly axed due to low ratings. Both shows had to rely on word-of-mouth as NBC chose to spend their resources headlining another new show, the non-cartoon Saved by the Bell. Then: a year later, Kissyfur, ALF and ALF Tales was axed and its time slot replaced by NBA Inside Stuff, a recap show for NBA basketball that had nothing appealing to children. At the same time, NBC exhausted more advertising revenue toward Saved by the Bell; causing drastic budget cuts for cartoons airing on the block, which caused potential kid viewers to either move to other blocks such as the newer player (Fox Kids) or watch Nickelodeon instead. Then in the block's final year, Captain N was shortened from an hour to a half-hour and both Alvin and the Chipmunks and the obscure Gravedale High were canceled in favor of new shows like ProStars and Yo Yogi!, the latter of which was critically panned and proved to be the final straw. As a result of the persistent ratings failures and continued pressure within the children's television market, NBC ordered all Saturday morning programs canceled, save for only Saved by the Bell since it was the most successful show of the block, and continued airing reruns of the shows until August 1st, 1992, when a teen-oriented live-action block named TNBC and a Saturday morning edition of Today took its place. Saved by the Bell and NBA Inside Stuff were the only programs to survive the transition. NBC's decision to drop their Saturday Morning Cartoon block is widely viewed as the beginning of the end for the genre.

That would explain why NBC pretty much gave up by 1992. Sounds like the people in charge just made very poor decisions in the end.

The demise of Saturday mornings on the Peacock 🦚 (NBC) in the mid 1980s could be considered a perfect storm of:
    (1) NBC relying too long on five cartoons (The Smurfs, The Snorks, Alvin and the Chipmunks 🐿 , ALF and until it moved to ABC in September 1989; the Gummi Bears) as their heavy hitters.
    (2) The replacement newcomers being extremely weak (The Karate 🥋 Kid, Gravedale High, Kid & Play, Yo! Yogi and ProStars, especially).
    (3) NBC News wanting to expand the Today show to Saturdays (the one day they did not air on; Today had only expanded to Sundays about 1987).
    (4) Lastly, the success of Saved By the Bell leading to NBC executives doing what most network execs do when a show is a huge hit: order as many clones as possible. Leading to the birth of Teen NBC (TNBC) on September 12, 1992.
