Towards the end of the video it shows a snorkel. How is the interior kept hollow using compression moulding? I’m assuming it isn’t using a 3 part mould with a flexible removable core as I assume that wouldn’t hold shape during compression. Is it achieved by using a 2-part rotational moulding process, or is it a 2-part mould which just creates one half of the snorkel and then the other half is moulded to it? Thx

I had this same question, glad i'm not alone.

It can be done a couple of ways. 1. A three part mold with both ends being open. Top, bottom, and a center tube not shown on this particular video. Excess material is trimmed away leaving smooth edges (or almost smooth). 2. The extrusion technique. There is a core that plastic or silicone is “pushed” past. Like the hollow tubes shown in the video. I am sure that there are more ways that I know about. RUclips is a great source for information on this topic.

It would have to be a solid core. I have done silicone rubber compression molding and we did one project that was similar but ours was straight. This one is curved so machining everything would be more complicated. To be hollow there would have to be an insert with compression molding.
