This was a passion project for these 5 members of the LGBTQ+ community. It is an expression of outrage and pride in the wake of the massacre of 49 people (and over 50 more wounded) at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida in 2016. The sheer power of the five voices together always overwhelms me a bit.

I gave my reasons for this. I just wanted to say thank you for reacting and your condolences. Sometimes you feel like giving up and giving in. This song says You rise no matter what, stand up and fight!

Mitch is a countertenor. Scott and Kevin (from PTX) both sometimes sing in falsetto. This was put together after the horrible murders at the gay dance club in Florida.

In my opinion, dare I say without a doubt, the best rendition of this song around! Not only is the talent superb, but it comes from an intensely personal place!!!

On Saturday, November 19, 2022, a gunman attempted to recreate the horror of the Pulse massacre at Club Q, a Queer nightclub in Colorado Springs, about 70 miles south of my home west of Denver. This time we got lucky. This time there was a hero present who saw people he loved being killed and ran toward the danger. And against all odds, he actually managed to take down a gunman with an automatic weapon, using his bare hands. Because of him, this time we "only" lost five people. One was the mother of an 11 year old boy. 😥 She was shot while trying to protect others, so there was more than one hero present; most heros don't survive.
I first heard about the Club Q shootings on Sunday, November 20th, checking email on my phone while sitting in my seat at the Ball Arena, waiting for Pentatonix to come on stage for their Denver concert (my very first Pentatonix concert). Yes, it was a good concert, despite the black cloud of the Club Q shootings. And yes, both Mitch and Scott spoke about Club Q, and Pentatonix pledged a large financial donation to help with the recovery of the wounded and providing for the bereaved.
Club Q hit me hard. It brought to mind all the gay friends I've lost over the years, to everything from AIDS to suicide to old age and heart failure - old griefs suddenly back in the front of my mind, and all coming on top of the loss of my husband last February. And when I woke up Monday morning I discovered a deep need to revisit *this* song, by *these* artists. And what I heard this time was something that spoke directly to me, to my needs. It speaks of defying the odds, and hope for the future, and empowerment. This song got me through Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and my birthday, all of them the first without my husband. I expect that it will get me through the first anniversary of his death next month, as well, and all the other holidays and anniversaries yet to come. I can't express how much I needed, and continue to need, this song.

Such a powerful performance by some awesomely talented people. This is one of my favorites by SuperFruit and company. Thanks for a great reaction, Lee. BTW, MITCH IS A COUNTERTENOR, not a falsetto. 💕
