My mom made me a small lap quilt with my old pillow cases when I was a child. When I look at it makes me smile and I feel close to her. I am now 60 years old and my mom passed away 20 years ago.
I have several jelly rolls, but yesterday a quilting friend had a jelly roll & the beginning of strip sets that she was getting rid of - so I got it. Perfect timing, right? I will be making my quilt for my guild's community service project. Saved me lots of time trying to decide.
Many years ago I bought a Grandmothers Flower Garden twin size quilt at a thrift store. It is made with old 1930’s pastel cottons and hand pieces and quilted. No label is on it. It is worn in some places. But I love to look at the workmanship that the quilter
What if you treated the border like a giant stringbean itself. Then give it a simple binding to mimic an outline. I can't wait to see the finished top. 💜💜💜
I read a post on the Moda website that one designer throws all of her jelly rolls and honey buns in the dryer to de-lint them. I am going to try it with this quilt.
Speaking of books, last night, I pre-ordered Pat Sloan's new book, coming out in April! Her patterns and books match the way my brain works! I have all of her books published in the last 10 years, and I am working on finding copies of older books. Pat's Teach Me series truly taught me, along with her videos. My skills improved dramatically during the pandemic when I had time at home for lots of practice and projects!
I saw your jelly sizzle on the Fat Quarter shop. It is so pretty!! I have this fabric. I’m not sure what project it will be for. Possibly one of your quilt alongs! Great quilt!!
This is a beautiful quilt book. I hope I can progress my skills to attempt quilts like these in the future. Right now I am enjoying Pat's Teach Me series.
I broke my ankle 4 weeks ago and have not been able to sew. I am thoroughly amazed at how you made it through those months with 2 broken wrists! I'm going through sewing withdrawal in a major way!
The border really enhances the sizzle quilt Pat and love your coffee time!! . I left a comment on your blog and if I am correct this enters me in your giveaway?
Hi, Pat, You may not know it, but we have morning coffee together every day . I just got home from carpal tunnel surgery. Can’t wait to do the jelly sizzle with you. You really help me stay focused and productive with my quilting. Blessings from Mary in Wisconsin.
I love jelly rolls. I can't wait till next Friday. I also love the string bean roll , it is darling. The book you showed is lovely. Has beautiful pictures. The sissors that light up is so cute.
Pat have you thought of using a solid black sashing or a solid colour for your string bean? You have so much colour and design that maybe a solid colour will do it❤️❤️
Thanks for all you do and share with us. Happy to see you online every day to see what you are up to next. Trying to decide what I'll use for the pinwheel color. I love scrapy quilts
To get rid of the "fluff" I tried this for the first time and it worked well! Opened the jelly roll in the dryer and tired the strips with the "tie" that came with it. Then I turned the drier on for about 7-8 minutes. Voila!
That is a book I could spend hours admiring the quilts and then planning which pattern I would do first. Thanks for the chance to win it. Great video with so much info.
Patches of stars is a great looking book, good luck all! For the sizzle quilt, I'm partial to light colored stars & a brighter border. Your jelly roll is gorgeous! Thank you Pat Sloan! Have a super fantastic weekend!
I am happy to see you sewing this quilt. My jelly roll and the pattern have been sitting on my cutting table for weeks because I can't decide what color to make the stars. Color selection is so hard for me.
I bought 2 jelly rolls to make the larger quilt but after opening one of them I realize there isn't much variation in the strips. There is 5 different strip set prints and 8 in each set for the 40. I am pulling fabric from my stash to make other strips to make a variation in the set. I am trying to add some print and some solid. How many varieties of strip should I add? I would cut them in sets of at least 5 of each or maybe more. The roll I bought is of bees and hives in gold, a little light yellow, light turquoise, black, some dk green on leaves but very small. I have been making a complicated quilt and just need a break to make something not so tedious but these jelly rolls are making me wonder now.
