Our game is suffering because Ceratopsians like Chasmosaurus have such bad design, in terms of appearance, in terms of Burian's design, now look- we have the worst revival of a game franchise since Command & Conquer, and believe me, we're in a bubble right now. And the only thing that looks good is the Triceratops, but if you raise interest from the community even a little bit that's gonna come crashing down. We're in a big, fat, Chasmosaurus-shaped bubble.
I have just been informed- by some sources- that the Crooked Triceratops will undergo NO federal investigation. Like I have said, the system is totally rigged!
In the wake of these rising Chasmosaurus rates - the worst we've ever seen, I might add - we're gonna build a Dinosaur Wall around Fort Ciskin, and we're gonna make The Ancients pay for it, and it'll be the best Dinosaur Wall ever built, you believe me.
I made a little headcanon to cover up this nonsense; Chasmosaurus is actually a subspecies of Triceratops native to the C2 sector. Triceratops is a larger, slower herbivore because the only real threat it has to face is the T.Rex, plus the islands are small, so it doesn't have to travel much. Meanwhile, Chasmosaurus has to put up a fight not only with the numerous T.rexes, but with Ceratosaurus as well. So in order to survive it relies on speed outrunning whatever it can't outgun, explaining it's lighter build. As for the name, DinoHunt Corp. didn't want to cause confusion so gave it a cool name.
While I prefer Triceratops personally, Chasmo has done a lot more for the community. So many well crafted models have come from its base, and it has a much more skin friendly UV map imo.
I like the _Triceratops_ better in all ways but the call. I still have a lot of nostalgia for _Chasmosaurus_ though, the mobile port, Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter, was on my iPad when I was young, so I kind of grew up with it.

I have a theory. Maybe during the development of Carnivores 2, the developers were going to design the Chasmosaurus after Burian’s artwork and give it it’s own animations, but perhaps due to time or budget they decided the best method would be to copy and paste the Triceratops model, give it some tweaks, and give it new sounds
Indeed. I played C2 when it came out but after a few hours in I returned to C1 due to 2 feeling like little more than a traditional FPS under the faux veil of a hunting game.
Personally, I find myself being neutral to both the Triceratops, and the maligned Chasmosaurus. With the classic Triceratops, I automatically get reminded of the times that the Triceratops and the Tyrant Lizard King may have engaged in combat with each other. With the Chasmosaurus, I don't have that much positive things to say about it. It's essentially the same thing as the Carnivores 1 Triceratops, and it's one of those pointable animals that I don't find to be worth hunting. So, if I had to pick, I'd go with the classic Triceratops.
I grew up with my first Carnivores game being Carnivores 2. I remember seeing a Chasmosaurus for the first time at Delphaeus Hills. I wasn't surprised or amazed, just simply was like "oh cool a new dino i've never heard of". Although I did get to see the Triceratops later, I wasn't really amazed at it either. You could probably see that i'm very neutral in this debate, seeing that i'm ok with either the Triceratops or the Chasmosaurus. In conclusion, I just wanna hunt dinosaurs.
I have a feeling that the _Chasmosaurus_ doesn't really look like a _Chasmosaurus_ because the square frill wouldn't look good on _Triceratops_ rig, which is designed for a rounder frill.
You make a lot of good points. I shared that initial ''where's the Triceratops?" moment for sure. It defenitely does read a lot more like a Triceratops than a Chasmosaurus, with the shorter frill and large browhorns. I do like the Chasmosaurus though. A lot of the things like the shared animations with trike personally are not a bad thing for me. Makes them feel like closely related animals. Similar, but different species, like bison and cows. That greyish and pale orange is a real hit for me personally. Plus mostly the Herbivores are based on Burian's artwork, the carnivores are more inspired by Jurassic park and other dinosaur renaissance art. The Chasmo sort of works as a transition between the artstyles in my opinion.
i never liked the triceratops from C1 i liked Chasmo more because of the updated model i think that even Burian would be disappointed in the model, it looks so awkward i wish the brought it back with a more accurate depiction of Burian's artwork
I like both. But the Chasmosaurus has a awesome roar and I grew up watching Carnivore videos (mainly Carnivores 2) and playing the mobile Carnivores games so I could only hunt the Chasmosaurus.
Since I played Carnivores 2 first, I didn't really mind that much, or really noticed at that age lol, that they had Chasmosaurus instead,however when I eventually played Carnivores 1, I realized the Trike was the original and was unfairly replaced in the sequel. I also remember thinking that the Chasmosaurus didn't even look like a chasmosaurus whatsoever even for being on a dinosaur planet with inaccurate dinosaurs, it was TOO inaccurate XD
I'm not going to lie, I still kind of prefer the Chasmosaurus design, even with knowing the original inspirations and whatnot. While I would have prefered a design closer to a more realistic Chasmosaurus, I just find the colors and frill more original and intimidating. The only thing I can say for the Triceratops is that it certainly looks beefier, especially with how close the back is to the frill, I like that aspect of its design. I don't really have a preference, I just accept the two for what they are and enjoy them. I can almost guarantee that if Triceratops is not added to the IOS versions soon, that it will be one of the first mods in the Steam release to be made.

At least I admit to the positives of both sides! It also doesn't help that I didn't get to hunt a trike until I downloaded Carnivores Reloaded last year. Maybe the lankyness of the Chasmosaurus helps to differentiate it for me.
Honestly I grew up hunting the Chasmosaurus but playing Carnivores Reloaded I realize that the Triceratops feels more challenging to hunt than the Chasmosaurus (I never played Carnivores 1 but I did play alot of Carnivores 2). But when it comes down to it I still prefer to hunt the Chasmosaurus because its alot more aggressive than the Triceratops and it at least attacks more often than the Trike has. (Seriously I tried like six times already to be killed by a Triceratops but no dice)

On the topic of this debate, as a kid, I never had any side in this debate - as a kid, I was disappointed the Triceratops didn’t look like the one from Jurassic Park-but, at the time, I didn’t understand the theme or know about Burian’s art style. Once I heard you break down the theme of ‘these are alien animals that resemble dinosaurs, and coincidentally evolved such that they resembled classic era paleo artwork”, that was it for me. Realizing that really cemented my appreciation for it. I do Carnivores 1 themed hunts on the mobile game often, and whenever I’m selecting dinosaurs, the triceratops is sorely missed. When the first Carnivores was released, dinosaurs weren't widely known (by the general public), so there was this still idea that dinosaurs were these huge, lumbering titans, these perceptions further enhanced by the Jurassic Park films. The Triceratops very much reflected what the public wanted and expected from dinosaurs at the time, and I loved how huge and beefy it was. While I don't believe it should have been removed in Carnivores 2, I kinda wouldn't have had a problem if it was just 'updated' for Carnivores 2, along with the other dinosaurs. I was disappointed that a lot of dinosaurs made a comeback for Carnivores 2, even the T-rex. I mean, I'd hunted it before so yeah... not really that special to kill it again. An update / revamp / replacement for every dinosaur was in order, and it's a shame that only a select few dinosaurs got that treatment. This is why I feel the Chasmosaurus is a good dinosaur for the mobile release, as Ceratopsians are no longer perceived as those lumbering bus-sized behemoths, some are well known and accepted to be smaller and quicker, yet to make up for its smaller size the Chasmosaurus does boast a lovely array of horns. That being said though, I still see no reason for it to have been renamed. Their Ankylosaurus could have very easily been rehashed as a Euoplocephalus, and yet only the Trike got this treatment... weird. So yeah, to conclude, perceptions change and change isn't bad, but the Triceraptops lifespan was unreasonably cut short. Replacing it wouldn't have been a problem if //every// dinosaur was replaced AND both it and the Chasmo were included in the mobile port, just like the Pachycephalosaurus and Ankylosaurus were both included, despite the former being replaced by the latter.

I totally agree on the redundancy of returning dinosaurs (it just makes Carnivores 2 feel even more like an expansion pack), but I never even considered that the Chasmosaurus fit the mobile port as a representation of the public's newer perception of dinosaurs (specifically ceratopsians). Hey I have an idea! Maybe Tatem can use the Triceratops in the survival hunts. That would be very good as we could see the Triceratops in another game adaptation, though as a minor cameo.
I’m all for authenticity, the chasmosaurus depicted in the sequel doesn’t look like the illustrations of Burian. BUT that doesn’t make them any worse than the Triceratops for merely deviating.
I have to say that The Triceratops is 100% the better animal but... the time i spent playing Carnivores 2 (it was one of the first games i ever played, and i have over 300 hours on it) makes me love the Chasmpsaurus even tho is flawed and uninspired 😅

Whoa, the Dimorphodon and Archaeopteryx look just like Zdenek Burian's art. For the ceratopsian debate, Triceratops is a more iconic and larger and advanced dinosaur. But of course it is nice to see other species be brought to the series, including some of the previous ancestors like Chasmosaurus. The primary thing I am disappointed with Triceratops is it's inaccurate design.

There's a fine line to draw with inaccurate dinosaur designs and the Chasmo crossed it. xD

Their Ankylosaurus could have very easily been rehashed as a Euoplocephalus, and yet only the Trike got this treatment... weird.
So yeah, to conclude, perceptions change and change isn't bad, but the Triceraptops lifespan was unreasonably cut short. Replacing it wouldn't have been a problem if //every// dinosaur was replaced AND both it and the Chasmo were included in the mobile port, just like the Pachycephalosaurus and Ankylosaurus were both included, despite the former being replaced by the latter.

Very good points! I totally agree on the redundancy of returning dinosaurs (it just makes Carnivores 2 feel even more like an expansion pack), but I never even considered that the Chasmosaurus fit the mobile port as a representation of the public's newer perception of dinosaurs (specifically ceratopsians). Great thoughts!
when there's an update of Carnivores Dinosaur Hunter Tatem will add Triceratops so we can hunt both Triceratops and Chasmosaurus

I’m all for authenticity, the chasmosaurus depicted in the sequel doesn’t look like the illustrations of Burian. BUT that doesn’t make them any worse than the Triceratops for merely deviating.
I have to say that The Triceratops is 100% the better animal but... the time i spent playing Carnivores 2 (it was one of the first games i ever played, and i have over 300 hours on it) makes me love the Chasmpsaurus even tho is flawed and uninspired 😅

Whoa, the Dimorphodon and Archaeopteryx look just like Zdenek Burian's art. For the ceratopsian debate, Triceratops is a more iconic and larger and advanced dinosaur. But of course it is nice to see other species be brought to the series, including some of the previous ancestors like Chasmosaurus. The primary thing I am disappointed with Triceratops is it's inaccurate design.
The Triceratops is accurate to Mr. Burian's paleoart. Since this is what the game set out to do in the first place, that's good enough for me.

when I was 6 i entered carn. 2 and saw chasmo and thought : hey trike is cool then used binoculars and saw chasmo, i was dissapointed cause I knew what a chasmo was and that wasnt a chasmo and I am only 13
