Just a tip, i haven't been able to even come close to getting crossovers done until today. I had someone teach me and he said one thing that sealed it for me. He said get lower. Basically i didn't a good knee bend and i was too upright which caused me to lose my balance every time. As soon as i got lower it was so easy.
THAT IS THE BEST TIP I HAVE EVER HEARD!!!!
Refused B I mean you don't need to bend your knees
Almost every single skating problem for beginners is that they don't bend their knees enough.
@@wolf3755, yes you do
@@wolf3755 yea you do
I practiced 2 hrs on the ice today and did exactly what was told in the video and now I can do crossovers. Twice as fast, it feels like flying. So stoked. Awesome video!
This vido help me a lot. After watching and pratising i'm now almost in NHL.
Brett Park your lying right or no
Youre a Park too? Im also a park... but im korean
@betterdays "Vido" probably a typo, and practising is the British way of spelling practicing.
Brett Park no...go to school
Why even say anything if youre going to be pointless and unfunny. People must roll their eyes at you a lot.
4:51 By extending the inside leg far away from your body, you will go in the direction of the turn faster (like doing a sharp corner). If you keep your foot under your body for balance, you will need more strives to reach the same tight of a turn.
This guy sounds exactly like PK Subban. Especially when he says "crossover". LOL
thehookupcupid IKR!!! I was waiting for someone to comment this

I'm a new hockey player and I love your videos, I look forward to keep watching them.
I don't think you will learn anything from this. Sorry to say. They have it all wrong
I started playing hockey about a year ago and your videos have been absolutely instrumental to my development as a skater and as a hockey player overall!!! Thank you Coach!
Could you possibly have an extra focused tutorial, helping us to achieve the undercut (push under), and explaining how our edges should be at all times during these exercises (including the stationary crossovers). I like minutely detailed explanations of how to position everything - body position, angles of the feet as they make contact with or leave the ice, and which edges should be used when and where - so that I can get it exactly right. Thank you!
Im going to play pond hockey for the first time tommorow:)
1800HaMM how did it go
lmao, you ask him 3 years later
Stoger 1 he prolly fell through the ice and drowned.
Wow cool where? Ottawa?
Miles Coleman lol
Thanks Jeremy!
I've always had trouble trying to learn this for the longest time!
he's actually scott..
Thanks Jeremy!
Next: Tight turns, forwards and backwards!
:D
Thank you Scott!!! My son is a Bantam who has been skating for over 11 years now and I have only been skating for about 4 years. I see all these kids at that age and they are doing these techniques all wrong. So this clears up so much. Now I know, and I can start on my 6 year old Mite teaching her the right way.
Could you make a video for some of us goaltenders out there? I could really use some great tips instructed as well as you do.
Thanks for making these Video's Jeremy and Scott! Thank you Thank you.. Hockey newb here, trying to get into it at 34 years old.. :/
Don't feel bad, I'm trying to learn at 42!
Never too late to learn something new, right?!?
I’m learning how to skate and have been joining in on some hockey lessons. The next thing for me is to learn the forward crossovers. This video is great and I learned more from it than during one of my private lessons. I’m going to practice the beginning steps this weekend. Not gonna go crazy. Just want to take it in easy steps and develop muscle memory.
I have allways been taugth to have chest facing into the circle on crossovers and that is both ways
Same here (incl. rollerblading tutorials like Asha Kirkby's). Ever since I tried keeping my chest facing inside the circle (like a week ago), my crossovers no longer feel as insecure as they did before, so I assume it's got to be the right technique.
Yep. You need to offset the centrifugal force (physics).
First time ice skating for me with hockey skates at the ice castle in cathedral City CA. I fell 4 times but I got the hang of it pretty quick. Ive been rollerblading so I guess that helped a bit.
Great advice... will get down to the ice rink n try this out.... thanks
moved to canada a few months ago, too cold to play footy. signed up for a hockey team. do not know how to play hockey.
thank fuck for this channel.
Dude thanks I forgot if it was toe or heel been doing rollerblading too long and I'm not good switching between the two
:) Thank you! I am hockey beginner, and I love this videos :)
Same here!!
Thanks for the videos
same here!! Thanks for the videos
Thank you for this video! I'm a returning skater and I'm having a bit of a hard time.
Bless these men.
You explained this so much better than my teacher, thank you!!
I am learning hockey!
Hey @how to hockey...could you ever post any vids on how to deke the goaley out?and raise it rite away on the ice?
SO helpful! I 'taught myself' as a newbie from watching other people doing crossovers, but I really wasn't sure what they were doing, or what the terminology was or anything about edges, so I was definitely just pushing with the outside leg and stepping over. I learned a lot of bad habits by trying to skate like good hockey players without actually understanding the mechanics..
The thing that helped me the most was when you practice on the ground without moving because it got me used to the feel of crossovers with my left leg, now i can do crossovers with both legs and I am now faster and open to picking up speed in both directions
This is the thing I haven't been able to find anything on! I rarely get to Ice Skate (From Australia) and in my time I've gotten to learn cross overs naturally but only going left
@@nahsti8043 yeah this channel is in my opinion, the best ice skating tutorial channel, did you know that coach Jeremy has a RUclips channel, I'd you didn't check it out
@@losimon87 yeah I've been watching that too but it's more checking out gear and in depth stuff etc
@@nahsti8043 I am going to be looking at some hockey stuff and completing my gear set so I can start playing
@@losimon87 The closest Ice rink to me has been shut down for two years for repairs, next closest one is a two hour train ride and my 5 year old wants to start playing as well but for week days training since hes at school its too far
fantastic video, thanks!
Love all your training videos. Great job.
This helped out a lot !!
Ahh what a great video im not a new hockey player but tips always help.
Great tips. Don't overlook the upper body and science. Turn upper body into the circle (or keep shoulders on the circle) to offset the centrifugal force.
Looking at mcdavids wide drives that undercut is the source of a lot of his power and acceleration.
scott you are the best!!!! thank you for all this lessons!!!! :D
Very helpful video. Thanks!
after 31 years of hockey, I had a bad knee injury, followed by a back injury. I had to be out a while, when I came back I bought new skates. Two years of frustration later, here I am trying to figure out what happened to my smooth forward crossovers, never had problems before.
Can u make a Video how you can bring the puck high for a high pass ty
thank you for teaching me now I know how to be good at hockey games I have practice on Thursdays and Tuesdays my games started very two weeks I'm only 9 years old and I know how to spell long words 👍
The Muffin Thief not really hard but good job 👍🏻👍🏻
Can u make a video on how to lift the puck on a snapshot because I can do it fine with other shots but not the snapshot
AMAAAZING video series dude! Love what you guys are doing. SUBBED!!!
good vid. very helpful
Why does my inside foot slip when Turning on the outside edge?
It's really annoying me.
Bilal Bangash seems like you might not be holding your edge on your outside edge causing you to slide out
Coach Jeremy, where did you get those winwell gloves? I have a leather pair from 95 and want to replace them
I love your vids
its really really hard to learn outside edge but thank you anyway i'll keep trying.
my feet feels numb after 15min ish. size should be right by pro shop. what can be the problem? too tight laces?
He says make sure that your head is up and then looks down lol
You can look up, but that doesn’t mean that your head is up. With your head up you still can look down. 😉
@@JustDrinkingCoffee its been 7 years iv learnt alot
I need some good advice. I live in Arizona with one ice rink (10 miles away). i go practice there thursdays and saturdays. I want to practice with skates but im scared to go for publuc skates cause you cant bring hockey gear there. I cant practice right now because it is a 100 degrees outside no joke. PLz help with what should i do?
rollerblades
i have those its just to hot right now anymore ideas....
Please, anyone know of a good cheap, off ice board I can use to shoot and stick handle on? Summer is coming and the ice is melting. I would like to practice in the summer, but I need a board that the puck can slide on like ice. Thanks
Go to a home improvement store. You can get a large piece of dry erase board.
TrilkDisco go to hockeyshot.com
Why am i constantly moving when just trying to cross my legs?? how are you perfectly still?
Most likely your core, you've got to be solid
Scott Grover is the perfect name for a Canadian skating coach.
What is a good beginner stick?
+Henry Lacourciere one that is the right length, not too expensive and with a standard curve like Hall / Sakic
You can measure your stick with your shoulder
I feel like I‘m doing the undercut automatically when I do a forward crossover with bit more speed (only turning left forward for now)
When pushing with the outside foot under the other foot, is the toe also the last to leave the ice?
Playing my 3rd game ever tonight... Watching every video I can...
any luck?
+Tollmann Just keep practicing it'll come
+Michael Covington (covington403) everything helps man. It's hard to get ice time to really practice skating hard.
Good luck!
A Jeramy can you pleas do a vid how to put on lizard skin on because I just got some lizard skin and I’m not sure how to put it on and also do a hockey spontaneous challenges do bring your skates
This sounds dumb but what is a inside and outside foot
is this the same for figure skating which is what I do
pretty sure yeah
He said. And you keep going. Me: lol xD
I wish I could have scott as my coach
My skating coach's name is Bob.
Bobbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
am i the only one that gets stuck on the outside edge on my inside foot and starts to slide and fall
of course not!

Slap*
damn i been playing long without crossovers ,people think im a d man ,cause i skate liek a d man .no idea wtf that mean
Why am I watching this 😅
Too scary
love the other videos, but this Scott guy is giving way too many details. You can't keep all that crap in your mind at once when you are just starting. I think the only thing you really need to know to get started is to try the stationary stepping over until you get comfortable with that, and then practice skating on the outside edge. Then once you get started crossing over, you can just practice a lot and it gets better naturally. Then, _maybe_ you can think about all these other details.
How is it too many details? They give you what you need and what you do with it, is up to you...
You're not supposed to keep it all in your mind. Try writing it down, then practicing it in bits and pieces. It's like any good skill. you can perfect it piece by piece, then slowly combine them, then work on doing it faster as you get more comfortable.
Make your own beginner video then...
............isn't that what Scott just said?
I went to check to see how you teach it on your channel, but all you do is 3d modeling. So I'll listen to Scott, thanks anyways..
First
my girl just crossed me over after watching this tutorial
