- Learn how to hurdle faster with correct trail leg mechanics and reinforce the technique with 4 different hurdle drills.
One of the main goals of 100m and 110m hurdling is to get the 10 'speed bumps' out of the way. The fastest athletes on the planet don't jump over the hurdles, they dive through them in a fluid and continuous motion. That motion starts with the trail leg.
Understanding trail leg mechanics is absolutely essential to developing proper technique. In this video you will learn the ideal positions the trail leg should hit, when the movement should be initiated as well as some common errors and how to avoid them.
You'll also learn 4 key drills that work for beginning hurdlers to advanced ones. The 2 stationary drills focus on a 4 step and 2 step sequence that helps to train the nervous system and develop the correct muscle memory for the trail leg. From there we move on to a walking drill that teaches athletes to get the knee up to the armpit and then continue the progression with a side walking drill that also helps reinforce proper arm movement through the hurdle.

one of the best hurdle videos i've seen.. people underestimate the trail leg
Ur right
Also they underestimate my middle leg too.
Lmao never thought I’d see Justus in a comment section
I’m not gonna under estimate it after falling all practice😂
Wish my school cared about track more. We started practice 3 days before a meet
Owen Westall 😨
Bruh
We started like 1-2months before
I had 2 days to practice hurdles lol
@@michaelprince9972 😭
Seems pretty easy but it's different when you do it on the actual track
literally omg it looks so freakin simple but i keep forgetting about my trail leg
Just need to get in a rhythm like anything else, get used to maintaining that rhythm. Then you can break and change it as you please.

I really hope this helps! I was put into the hurdles team suddenly with no prior hurdle practice and we have training tomorrow
Sameee and I’m scared to fall😭

There's a LOT going on with the trail leg! Who knew? Great video and explanation. Thanks for the drills. You guys must be awesome coaches.
Again, excellent video! If your school ever does a clinic of any sort, we would love to attend. You're absolutely right about track and field needing more love.
Go Gamecocks!!!! I absolutely have to be at the next clinic!!!! Great information on this video alone, geesh! 💯
Thank you so much for this video! I am trying out for hurdling and I want to have the perfect form. This video helped a lot!
Awesome, good luck!
I don’t jump high and all I do is juke cause I can’t hurdle but this video makes me wanna jump over someone now so I started training and didn’t work out that well I only jumped over someone but they could get me but after this video I started hurdling people so thanks 🙏

Great vedio
Thanks Rohit!
very helpful, I’m gonna do all these
I hope this helps I’ve never done hurdles and they just signed me up with no practice and my meet today 😅
It should, maybe not today but definitely after some practice. Good luck!
POV: you’re watching this because your school doesn’t care about track and the coaches know almost nothing about hurdles.
Oh yeah and a little more specific: you’re school doesn’t have a track and it only has 6 hurdles
A big part of the reason we make these videos, track and field deserves more love!
@@OutperformOfficial yes! We have 2 basketball courts but no track… it’s under appreciated!
excellent
Thanks!
Thank you.
Welcome!

Who else is watching this the day before a meet
Male HS height is 39”, how high do I make the hurdles during the 1-4 point drills?
Jesus Christ your form is perfect
i do all these but its just not enough, but my trail leg hip side (if that makes any sense) has been popping, are there any stretches that help that?
Sounds like you might need more stability and strength work. Hurdle walkovers, split squats, lateral leg raises etc. Those will help strengthen while improving range of motion.
@@OutperformOfficial okay, ill try that, thank you.
I live in Denver. Their does not seems to be excess to High Schools premises, as far as utilizing Hurdles, I'm a non- student. Can you direct me a store where one can buy or rent Hurdles, near me? If not possible perhaps Amazon type store.
I’m getting frustrated because I’m in highschool and i am doing high hurdles for the first time but i had experience with low ones and my butt or my trail leg keeps on getting caught and I’m short im like 5’6 is there any tips for me?😂

Oh boy. I just joined track and I think that I want to do hurdles. I'm 5'3. Lol.
@@reagan632 i just competed today with 0 experience on high hurdles and i got 4th almost placed 3rd i got beat by .1 seconds 😂we also have a team member who is 5’4 he can jump high hurdles and im impressed and thats when I learned that height doesn’t really matter
Yeah I keep smacking my trail leg on every hurdle I dunno how I haven’t fallen yet lmao
Ok so I'm in 8th grade and I can land and ii have the height in my jump but I have bad habits of twisting my hips and sticking my arms out. Help?
check out this video we posted on fixing the rotation ruclips.net/video/oV4cMaOy3Eo/видео.html
practice sprinting down the lines on the track, that will carry over into hurdles
i'm a great hurdler for only being a sophomore and i have trouble keeping my full speed in between hurdles hopefully this helps
It should, you can also try drills where you move the hurdles closer together to help with the 3 step rhythm.
What’s your Pr?

watching this after i just fell and ate shit yesterday 😂
i keep leaning backward :(
Try doing some 'hard post' drills against a wall or using a harness.
Always wonder why men’s hurdles are so much higher than women…he tend to be more flexible naturally…
Hurdle 101
How to break your arm
Athletic training makes ZERO sense to me. You don't get better with hurdles by trying to jump over full height hurdles. You work on technique with a hurdle height you can maintain technique with, then gradually train with higher and higher hurdles as you maintain technique at each stage. OBJECTION: "But they don't allow you to compete with a lower than standard hurdle height." That's their fault for not providing you with competition FLIGHTS for athletes of all abilities from beginner to advanced.
