I read the book and it was wonderful. Ashley’s childhood was unstable and she was left alone for long periods of time while The Judd’s were touring. It seems like she pretty much raised herself.

ashley seems to have some personality issues. i get the sense she is incredibly self-involved and thinks quite highly over herself above all else. i much prefer her mother and sister, and i get much warmer, more open and genuine vibes from them
How sad that in a five minute interview which was difficult because of the very personal pain this beautiful person has been through, you would judge her so completely! I think Little Bird, you may be the owner of the very things you judge her of! Walk in her shoes, I bet you would want to fly away! I see her a strong and positive voice for others who have suffered.
So in other words she drops the bomb on her mother that there was incest because she and a psychiatrist conjured up those memories does this girl realize that she was the beginning of the end for her mother with that book
They wouldn't have published a book solely about the suffering in the global south, so they made Ashley add a good chunk of her personal battles so the book would appeal to the many fans. I am waiting for my copy in the mail, and although I will be very interested to read about Ashley's struggles in life, I have purchased the book to read about the stories Ashley has so nobly transmitted to us.
I understand her choice to not touch on her low points. She had a greater message about connecting with and protecting the peoples around the world. So, if you are really in the mood to hear about someone being suicidal or being a victim of incest you can Google it.
You should reflect on why you feel so entitled to know about her in such a way. Don't buy her book which I doubt you did anyway. Now tell us about your life...I am confident that it is the stuff dreams are made of....nightmares...the nightmare of boredom.

@auntriri22 As a celebrity, she has a huge platform to bring these important topics to the public's attention. As an abolitionist, she is impelled to speak out against slavery, sexual abuse and violence.
All she said was that was uncomfortable...and it's because suicidal thoughts is a BIG deal and far away from the purpose of her BOOK. Ashley Judd you are an amazing woman and I know how it feels to be called crazy so keep on keeping on. You know who relates to you and who understands and by the way, I'm grateful you have found purpose to still be alive and fight for what's right. You have ways inspired me and always will!
A good woman makes all the difference. For the right woman, a man is inspired, driven and filled with the Light she brings to his life. Once lifted up by that Light, from having the right woman in his life, a man can truly build, truly grow and truly conquer -- first his own demons, as that's a prerequisite to truly achieving anything else, and then anything that stands in the way of reshaping their world to be... better, happier for him and his woman. The greatest things happen this way.

Ashley is far from prententious. She has always been wise beyond her years and her personal truth doesn't need to be sliced open unless she wants to reveal anything else further. It is horrifying to be the victim of incest, child molesting and rape. One really has to be braindead to not relive the horror from time to time. For those of you who have lived your life in a fishbowl, please respect that.
If you think this is a sweet angle who is some kind of humanitarian then go look and listen to her speech at the Woman's March of n D.C. By far my ne of the most hateful and painfully hurtful rant about white men. She is fooling nobody with this Saint act, she wants women to have the heads of their men on the tip of my heir swords. So disappointed to see her go to this level. It solves nothing and goes in the face of any kind of equality.
@cookietiff2009 I just read it too. It's crazy how her childhood was. And it surprised me how much like mine it was. I too have a huge heart and capacity to understand others. Maybe it takes a tough childhood to make someone able to be that way. I have been a fan of the Judds since I was a little little girl and it's nice to get to know part of Ashley.
I read parts of her book yesterday: I have always respected her humanitarian work: I am even more heartfelt impressed by her life that she wants to be a service of worship to God.......mission being accomplished by her....and sending inspiring waves out to others to do the same, no matter where one is. Echos of Bobby Kennedy's insisting the notion of one person CAN make a difference: reinforced by Ashley's life and actions. Thanks so much.
I don’t know what she endured (haven’t read her story as she was SO uncomfortable with those pages about herself ) and I don’t want to pry into what she shared hoping to see if there was identifiable things). So I gather it’s mostly about her work helping others and that’s beautiful. My best friend had ptsd from a horrific childhood resulting in cyclical depression every winter . She seems bipolar but really shut down several months at a time only to resurface and resume talking every day or other day …until she couldn’t. She just couldn’t hold on any longer, the depression got worse in recent years. She committed suicide. I missed it. I was her best friend as well. She, too, did NOT want to talk about a lot of things. We were friends over 50+ years and I suspect that’s why I knew so much …it was a LOT of talking.
The interviewer, Alina Cho, was very manipulative in this interview. She tried to steer Ashely from one topic right into the suicide topic without letting Ashley finish. Fortunately - and I'm not at all surprised -, Ashley ignored the woman's rudeness and continued with the topic until she was finished addressing it. THEN the woman again made her feel uncomfortable by almost forcing her to talk about a topic Ashley didn't want to talk about. I now disrespect Alina Cho. Ashley rises above.
i feel bad for the reporter, ashly judd unfairly put her in a shameful spot, this is journalism, lets keep it real, the majority of people like the book because they feel alike to judds childhood and suffering, not his prime time...

Female DallasTx she is not tacky to me because when you suffer as a child and if you listen to Wy and her mom they talk about the struggles of the Judd household. She wrote her feelings and her sister and mom did it on u-tube and that was painful to watch them go through their healing. She wrote her truth but I heard that there is more about her than that part of her life. She has used that learning to help others. Rather than judge her for not wanting to speak about that part of her life get the book and you will be in the know. I believe she has come through to the other side pretty well and is doing something good. It’s easy to judge them as they are in the world spy glass but think about how you would feel about that if you were in her shoes. Some actors/people take that opportunity to get more attention because that is what they crave and therefore in my opinion are not healed. She has or is trying to move on. I say bravo
