The first two movies are the peak of the franchise, and it fell off after Minions. Rise of Gru seemed to be a return to form and I haven't seen 4 so I don't have an opinion yet.
Man I loved the first and second film. It kinda went downhill with the whole retcon shit when the minions movie came out. The idea of the minions being a creation of Gru and Nafario is far better imo.
