  • The Uganda Martyrs Shrine Namugongo is one of the largest Christian pilgrimage destinations in Africa dedicated to the 22 Martyrs and saints of Uganda who were martyred between 1885 and 1887 by the king of Buganda, Kabaka Mwanga II
Namugongo was formally a place of execution of all people who committed grave offenses in the kingdom of Buganda. It is here that most of the 22 Catholic Uganda Martyrs and 23 Anglican Martyrs, offered their life to Christ, on the orders of King Mwanga in 1886
From far, the eyes cannot fail to catch the sight of a church pinnacle towering the normally blue sky. As one approaches, one is gripped by that special feel of a godly environment, with a heroic atmosphere of the Martyrs’ given by the imposing giant structure of a shrine. This is Namugongo where now people flock daily in tens and thousands to honour and pray to God through the intercession of the twenty two Uganda Martyrs
The first to be martyred on 15th November 1885 was the King's major domo and Christian leader, Joseph Mukasa Balikuddembe. He was killed because he had pleaded with the king not to kill Bishop James Hannington, an Anglican Missionary, who had made an attempt to enter Buganda from east, then considered to be the backdoor of the kingdom. Thank you but that funny funny noise of Boda Bodas, cars and all the noise in back ground gives us hard time to watch in our homes. You can either put soft music since your are not talking in video or anything of your choice better that that town noise
