So many tips in this video with Charlie Easton using acrylic paints. I love the wet on wet to lay down the beginning shapes. So quick and effortless. Shapes, value, temperature. Wonderful video. Would love for you, Eric, to have Charlie back in the studio.

Very interesting suggestion to use the gloss medium with the underpainting color. Dry scratchy canvases that slurp up the paint has been my biggest pet peeve. The final varnish carries the same frustration for me. I used to use something called “binder medium” mixed with my base color until I couldn’t find it anymore 😢

I use acrylics, I use them to touch up paint around the house, where it is too much hassle to have every color in stock. I do paint with them also. I find them wasteful as when doing mixes they tend to dry up in the small piles. There are things one can do to reduce that issue, but it is still an issue.
Plus, they are water cleanup, but so are oils. Basically both require soap and water. Oils paint brushes can be brush dipped and you never hardly have to clean them.
And nobody knows, or cares what is in acrylic. Something you can't eat as one could eat walnut oil. Or linseed if it was food grade. I hear it is urea formaldehyde.

Acrylic Gloss Medium PLUS pigment of the paint as his base! So, do you mix the gloss medium WITH your paint as you apply or are they applied separately? Ex pigment down, Dry.. Gloss Medium. Dry. Paint your painting??? Thanks

I gave up on acrylics, seems like it takes forever to do a painting. I can do a wet on wet landscape with water mixable oils a lot faster, and wash my brushes in the sink. I hope someday I can take a course on acrylics.

Yes, I’ve never timed it, but it seems like it takes about 20 min to dry.

Iv always said acrylic is way harder to master. If it was easier nobody would paint in oils.
