Wow! She is the best! She can talk and paint and teach all at the same time! And…complete a beautiful painting in under an hour! I so enjoyed this demo…thank you for sharing her.😊
Super brilliant! Glued to screen can't wait to have a go! Marvellous new approach I am from Uk- Wales nearly midnight I was going to bed early and noticed this from your email Eric Thrilled to bits could watch all night! MORE MORE MORE! Hi all from 4 corners of the earth!
wonderful lesson...I was hoping to see a loose feather somewhere in or around that nest..I am totally impressed.. Thank you Beth bathe...and Thank you Eric Rhoads for this showing..
Amazing! I never seen water soluble paint demo! I originally started in oils 60 years ago. Over the years, after having children I had to give up my beloved oil paints. I had tried painting in several different mediums. I succeeded in my endeavors but, was limited with acrylics because of raising 3 young boys. They dried too fast between their squabbles. Watercolor proved to be the best option 40 years ago. Now I may try these water soluble oil paints. Thank you both!
Hello from Philly! This video with Beth is so great. As a starting watercolour artist, you have shown me many great opportunities! Thank you. I will have to watch this over and over.
Good Afternoon from Topeka, KS! I do not paint with oils but this is helping me see what to do with my backgounds on my paintings which I really have a problem with. I paint with Acryla Gouache on Aquabord.
I learned so much from this. Fun presentation and very clear. I’m inspired to have some painting fun with my 84 year old Mom, who has never painted before. I think she’ll love it!
Hi - it's Donna from Connecticut! Beth, you're having so much fun!! You're never going to get to sleep tonight after this! And what a stunning bird's nest! Thank you for showing us this!
This is fantastic and I am looking forward to give it a try. Thank you very much Beth & bringing this to us Eric. Greatly appreciate it, Sdin1. G.R. Michigan
I really loved and thoroughly enjoyed this demonstration. Beth is such a down to earth artist, so humble and talented!!! So much fun to watch and beautifully painted ❤❤❤
Thank you both for this fun and educational experience! My next move is to try this technique in every possible way. Thank you. 🙏🏾☺️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
both traditional oil and water mixable oil can be used by beginners. You can paint with them in the same way. The difference being ableto use water as a medium and clean up with the water mixable paints.
Love your work Beth. I am an oil painter and tried your technique of using a squeegee and other mark making tools on my gessoed canvas. I used transparents but could not get a crisp line regardless of what tool I used also the underlying colour showed through my marks. What am I doing wrong? Should I use another substrate?
Yes, try harder substrate. I use Ampersand gessobords or similar. The hardness of the board allows better contact with the squeegee. I also slightly oil my boards prior to painting (with WMO Artisan Safflower oil, or Cobra Safflower oil) so that paints do not stain the substrate
I absolutely love this demo and can not wait to try this style. This looks like a terrific balance between palette knife painting and brush painting. One of the best videos yet! Thanks Beth and Eric! My concern with water soluable oil piants is longevity. I love them for doing studies, painting for myself and for practice. I personally would not be comfortable doing a commission in them or selling anything for a substantial amount of money. Would love to hear any information on this matter. Would also be curious as to the benfit of WSO compared to Casein which is one of the oldest paints. There are more studies questioning the long term viability of acrylic paints as well. Of course being that something like 90% of artwork historically ends up in a dump I guess it really will not matter..lol. I am sure much of my palette knife pop art will end up there as well. I am hoping my traditional oil paintings do not.

What a great technique. I wonder if you could do this in acrylic with some extender and use a smooth board.
Haven't tried this with acrylic. Give it a try!!
I have trouble finding oil primed canvases
Would you advise whether a beginner would find it easier to get into' oil painting by kicking off with water mixable as a starter to the medium ?
both traditional oil and water mixable oil can be used by beginners. You can paint with them in the same way. The difference being ableto use water as a medium and clean up with the water mixable paints.
I think she meant to say when combining traditional oil paint with water mixable oils the ratio is 3 parts WMO 1 to part Traditional oils
correct!
Love your work Beth. I am an oil painter and tried your technique of using a squeegee and other mark making tools on my gessoed canvas. @@AmityAmy Thank you!
How long does water oils take to dry
Beth, do you frame your paintings?
yes I do, I use JFM Enterprises frames
I haven’t used that surface before but Ampersand is the best…
