For me, the SMT is the perfect solution to ride on trackdays and weekend tourings with the same bike. For only road riding and touring, the SAS is a better bike, but if you want some hardcore twisties or hobby-trackdays, you need the SMT. Much lighter, much more agile.

Wouldn't the duke 890 R be even better? And cheaper. I ride a 790 with side paniers. It's also a touring bike when you live close to the mountains.
@@watchdancing i had it before. It hasn't got wind protection, cruise control, heated grips, top case, etc -> unable for touring.
I swapped a 2021 1290 sas for the 890 smt without even a test ride as it was a pre-order
I don't regret it one bit it's awsome
