    We visited the 3rd week of October last year. The only crowded place was around Old Faithful Geyser. Other than, that, we had the park mostly to ourselves. It snowed one night and we had to miss the next morning in the park because of snow plows. We drove to Mammoth and Lamar Valley that afternoon - and it was absolutely amazing! We saw wolves in Lamar Valley from the road, and there weren't any cars or people around for miles. It's a very different experience than what you get in the Summer.

      I plan to go October 23-28 do you recommend I change my dates to earlier in October? He scared me when he said if there’s a snow storm the park closes :( traveling from Tx so hope it doesn’t

    We were there last week. Having watched your videos in advance made planning and navigating our trip so much easier. I think we got to everything we wanted to in our weeks time, except Lamar Valley. Crowds and traffic were nowhere near what I was expecting. What an awesome place.

    Thanks for the info. I have reservations at Madison for first 2 weeks of October. My first time to visit in the fall. Been there in spring and summer. Have reservations for 1 week in the Tetons prior to Yellowstone. We all have a Happy Place and Yellowstone is mine. Hoping to see snow but not enough to send me packing since I'm driving from Texas. Trying to correctly pack for the cold, cold nights that I expect. I enjoy your videos so keep 'em coming.

    I'm planning for next September 2023. It seems like it's been a good 12 years since I've been to Yellowstone and I'm so ready for another trip. I miss the wildlife, waterfalls, hiking, beautiful landscapes, and camping the most. I'm as big on the geo- thermal stuff. It's really neat the first time seeing but after that it gets a bit repetitive. The geysers going off is still enjoyable to see though.

    Great video. We're visiting Sept 11-15 and then Grand Teton afterward. Getting a little worried about the smoke and air quality, as it seems to be trending in the wrong direction. Hopefully things clear up a bit by the time we go. Looking forward to our trip.

    Hey Matt and Cheryl hope you are both well. Been a subscriber for the past couple of months and would like to thank you both for the great content. I have been organizing a trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone in early October with a group of friends for a little over a week and your videos have been a very valuable resource for me as I have begun planning an iteniary.
    One question about Yellowstone that I would like to ask: we will be staying around West Yellowstone during our time at the park and one place that I want the group and I to see is Lamar Valley. Given the distance from West Yellowstone, I know it is not the easiest place to get to and I am thinking about going there for one day in conjunction with Mammoth and driving the Northern road. Would you advise driving at dawn or dusk to or from Lamar Valley to heighten the chance of seeing wolves or do you think driving in the dark is too risky?
    Many thanks!
    - Nick

    I went to Yellowstone this past month for about 3 weeks with my family. It was a blast thanks for your helpful videos you guys helped me plan my trip. I stayed in the west then moved up north for the remainder of my trip. Lamar valley, Hayden valley and even gardens hole is where we saw a lot more wildlife. It turned out to be a perfect vacation I can’t wait to visit another park. You guys are great and thanks again for all the info.

    This video was so helpful! Thank you! I’m going to Yellowstone and the Tetons the first weekend in October. I heard that a lot of things shut down October 1st. Like visitor’s centers, stores, restrooms, etc. in both parks. Is that true? And places/activities in Jackson and Teton village. I understand that the parks themselves are open in October, but do most of the services shut down October 1st? Thanks in advance.

    • @WereintheRockies
      @WereintheRockies  2 года назад

      Yes. Not exactly sure on the date but basically they start winding down in late September and early October.
