So this video series inspired me to play this in my spare time, I one my first war against the ottomans only to end up losing a war against venice when they attacked Serbia. Serbia lost the war by giving away MY morea, then Serbia became my overlord through shenanigans.
got a idea for your next series when you do one should be the eu4 mod imperium universalis which is a complete overhaul and puts you in the roman world from something like 500bc onwards would be so cool alot of factions too and its well done :)

I tried playing byzantium (again) when you started this campaign, and this patch have a good strategy. Improve relations with albania mamluks and wallachia, ally wallachia but not albania. At some point the ottomans will attack albania bringing Venice and others OPMs, then ally albania they will call you to war, be prepared tho, group your army and navy before and always pays Constantinople fort. The war will be slightly in your favor, but watch your manpower and try to attach skanderberg and siege everything, and luckly mamluks will start subsiding you. It seems that Albania will always give back your cores except Edirne. Most of the time you will have a border with Serbia, on my game they have just Bosnia as allies, declared war on them with Albania on my side, it was an easy war, from there you could either vassalize serbia or conquer, i have gone with the vassal one as Albania was ocupying Kosovo and it was the only way of keeping that sweet gold. It was a pretty consistent strategy and Ottomans was collapsing by attacks from every direction, from that point on you will have a pretty solid base for working your way into basileus achievement (sorry for the bad english, corrections would be welcome).
Guys some tricks to get Guud at the game. I m just playing my first game and the tutorial is not engouht even with the quill tutorial. Don t know how to get decent money and don t know how the colonial works after i get the city
Search out a good Let's Play for a country you are thinking about playing. Try to get a recent one, within the last 6 months to a year. Otherwise even a good EU4 player like Arumba might be crap (his earliest LPs for example) or the mechanics might be out of date, having been altered in expansions or patches. Then watch what they're doing. Keep them a video or two ahead of you and just start playing along. It's honestly the fastest way to learn. You need to see cause-and-effect. Arumba is good for explaining what they're doing as they go along and why, Quill18 too, and Budget Monk. Darkfireslide is good for explaining mechanics once you know what you're doing. But you need to have some knowledge/skill to understand it. He is basically speaking to experienced players.

Yeah prosperous portugal should be helpful to you. I didn't watch that one so I don't know too much about it. I'm not too sure if you get colonial nations or explorations missions without the right dlcs, but other than that there shouldn't be any large differences in how you can play from his style.
