The working poor are being destroyed at this point in our history. When I was in college a minimum wage job you could afford rent and food, but not today.

I am thankful that these food pantries are there to help those in need. With the demands on farmers in the United States, and around the world, combined with natural disasters, such as water shortages, I fear that food prices will continue to rise. I fear that food will be harder and harder to obtain. People should grow their own as much as they can.

Honestly I'd rather talk to them and get to know them then talk to anyone else on this god forsaken planet. And to see them ignore the homeless enrages me it's pathetic.

Yeah, they are. Millions of people per year? Yep.
AND Biden is bringing in 150,000 refugees a year. We have to pay for ALL their needs for 5 years, including a car! Mass immigration is a big problem.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I will express it anyway. Pantries are struggling as people needing free food increases. Donations are down because people are stockpiling foods they normally would not eat on a daily basis, so cheap foods like canned goods are not so much left over now from store stock. As demand increases, we all know that household income is not a criteria for need for free food. It doesn't matter how expensive your home is or whether you just bought a new $30,000 car with all the bells and whistles. How much money you spend on luxuries does not count, so you can get in line with the poorest of the poor, and save up to $300 or more a month by hitting more than one food pantry every week or two. This helps pay for the new car and other luxuries. I have met people who do this. Sometimes the food is sold to small markets for resale. This exploitation of our food banks is discouraging to say the least, because people donate in good faith that the food will go to the most needy. This is not always true. I believe there needs to be verification of low income for those who partake in free food - a bank account printout that can be matched with checkbook number, and verification of identity along with address verification. People say, "Income doesn't matter if all the money is going out to bills." But the public who support these wonderful pantries are not responsible for people's bills. Running up credit cards, charging purchases, buying new cars and streaming videos should not be what people donate to, if these customers only take food to offset their personal finances. In order to serve those who truly are losing the inflation battle with food and cannot survive without assistance, we must toughen our requirements.

You are the type of person who wants to see people dirty and in rags and skinny in order for you to believe that they are needy.
I was homeless, and I was financing a brand new car and I lived in my car and had a full-time job.
My car payments were $280 a month nowhere near the cost of paying rent, I lived in California where the average rent is $2000 a month and higher.
I worked full time but was not even close to being able to afford rent, and living with people here in California is a truly miserable experience and sometimes deadly.
I would shock people when i would tell them I was homeless.
I didn't want to walk around dirty and in rags, so I had a storage unit and a gym membership to shower.
There is many people like myself (the working homeless) who you would never guess are homeless.
The point is not everyone is looking to scam the system, maybe those people you are talking about appear to have money but they may be secretly poor.
I had people here in the comments accuse me of being able to afford rent with a 30 dollar phone bill 😂 how can 30 dollar's pay a $2000 a month rent? These people are so out of touch.

I only get food when I don't have a job and am struggling. I've struggled with jobs all of my life though. Very depressed, clinically depressed all my life but I never went to a food bank when I did have a job. Here in CA I was making $18 an hour and tried to get food stamps they wouldn't allow me now that I make nothing because I'm not working I got food stamps but I think you have to only be making $15:50 or lower in CA to qualify.

As someone who has been in need of a food banks and hopfuly in my future that will change. and someone who got her grandma who is on fixed income knowing her financial future will probably not change, Hearing this is actually upsetting.
We, all have to face the Lord on judgment day. Taking up space in a food bank line so i can get a luxury car next month is not one of the things I'd want to be judged for.🙅🏿‍♀️.

I'd rather shut them down. Let me keep whatever tax money was going toward this. Half the people going to these banks probably won't need them with the extra money in their pocket. The program is probably very wasteful - it could be that if people weren't being taxed and food being distributed, the Kroger mentioned in the story wouldn't have closed down.

Most People Definitely have jobs going to a dag on food bank. You are veted by your income 🙄🙄.
But when you get hours cut or laid off, or your bread winner leaves or dies, your rent went up way too much in the second year of leasing, or your forced to go becuse your job only gets you by with rentn, transportation, loan payment car payments, internet, emergency aavings and the list goes on. A few costs off your monthly budget HELPS. The food bank doesn't even cover all your groceries but it's a hug help.
There will always be unexpected seasons in life that force someone to use extra resources.
So Commenter and people who think like you, your pride is showing!😡
