Logjam wise, a lot will shake out over the next two seasons. Holliday, Ortiz and Westburg can easily split up 2B's 700+PA. Ortiz will be more of a bench contributor, while Westburg can split 3B with Henderson, the main SS, and some form of Ortiz and Mayo, when he gets the nod. Include Henderson and Mateo holding down SS for another 700+PA, with Mateo getting looks in CF with Mullins trending towards strong side platoon. There is 2100+PA between 5 and half guys. Henderson gets 600, Westburg maybe 400, Holliday at 400, and the remaining 700 split between Mayo, Ortiz, and Mateo. Norby may be odd man out because he doesn't have the defense. His best chance, if not for a trade, will be when there are a few injuries to the committee of the infield. O'Hearn and Mountcastle will platoon. Mountcastle also getting time at DH. There may be a trade of one of these two because Mountcastle is superfluous with Basallo looming in AA. The jam in the OF depends on how serious McKenna, Vavra, Stowers are considered. Being unlikely to reach PA with injuries, it passes to Cowser and Kjerstad to and will compete to split RF with Santander. Hays will hold LF and Mullins with strong side platoon over Mateo in CF. If this is really too big of an issue for the Front Office, a trade snagging a veteran SP would be ideal along with a separate deal for some RP hands.
I really think that a few guys-namely Mateo, Santander, Mountcastle, and/or Urias-become trade bait in the offseason. Holliday is most likely the future SS, Gunnar will move to 3rd. I think it’s most likely they move Mateo specifically to make room for Holliday, and keeping Urias would give them a righty platoon option. But I also think Kjerstad is here to stay, and Cowser will also have a chance to stick around next year (and maybe someone else like Mayo). So it’s certainly possible they move a couple outfielders to make room for them, and if it gives them a frontline pitcher in return, I’m all for it. But I’m sure they don’t want to give away righty or switch-hitting options, either, even though Camden Yards is built for lefties now.
Jackson will be the starter at shortstop and Gunner will be at 3b and Westberg will be at 2b. They will have the young talent to trade for pitching as well as veterans. They also trade for younger players to keep the minors league teams stocked. They have a great problems but a great future let's go Os 😊
Let’s table the ‘23 trade line talk. Verlander did not want to be in Baltimore. Cease, Gulitto, and Lynn have not been anything close to great in post-trade line. The market was not there. No rentals for prospects, and i am happy the O’s did not make any of deals for the aforementioned pitchers. When pundits say “trade your prospects”, they rarely do in-depth analysis of the market of available player, in this case pitchers.
As a rabid METS fan,I would have preferred trading verlander to you guys for a better prospect haul(and thought he would want to go to Baltimore being that he is from neighboring Virginia). That said,I am more than happy with what we got in return from the Astros.
What about Mayo, Norby, and Ortiz too? Where do they fit with Gunnar, Jackson, and Westburg? Why can't they trade one or two of them? I would keep Mayo of the 3 since he can play outfield too. Maybe Norby or Ortiz can be a utility type player and can trade the other one. Though Urias is doing that pretty right well, especially defensively. At least Mateo will be gone! Only thing he offers is his speed
Here's the guy that's waiting for the time when the Orioles lose an important game from pitching, giving up 4 runs or so, that way he can say, "see, Orioles shoulda traded prospects, gotten more pitching at the trade deadline!"! Of course there's numerous other teams he can you with to build his own moral too
Its VERY likely that Holliday moves to the OF.. hes not the better glove in the system at SS or 2B .. with gunnar locking down SS.. Westburg has won the 2B job .. and Colby Mayo is considered one of the best 3b in all of the minors.. and hes a big time bat. so hes the 3rd basemen of the future... Holliday likely moves to CF like Adam Jones did for the Orioles.. Hes athletic.. and the lack of arm strength plays better in the OF .. but his speed and bat plays well out there
@@bv.6602 thats very possible too, but with the move of Kjersted to 1st.. throws even more wrinkle.. not that we have room in the OF to move him there either but something has to give.. lol
@@PigTownSports thats another possible scenario. Everything considered its a great problem to have. O's are 95-57, essentially the top team in the AL and still have the #1 farm system. One thing is certain, these O's are gonna be a problem for the rest of the AL East for a little while. I think 2023-2029 is theirs. They are gonna be the giants in the AL East
@@bv.6602 its very very possible.. Some really good arms have developed this year too.. Cade Povich made a nice step.. Chayce Mcdermott looks like hes a front line starer.. Seth johnson is HUGE piece of next years team.. hes rehabbing very well.. Armbruester as well has had a nice season and could see the jump next year. Trace Bright is flying through the system and could be a 2 year away guy. .. just so much dang talent i cant even name them all haha

HOLIDAY START SHORT, HENDERSON 3RD, WESTBURG 2ND

Don't know why I'd do that, Orioles fans have been so nice to me this season

I think Holliday ends up at 3B and Mayo winds up a DH/1B type.
