I was just a child when this happened, but it was on the local news for weeks.
I lived 30 min away from Amityville at the time.
Later in my HS years (1979) after getting my license, a friend and I took a drive just to see the house.
Definitely had a creepy vibe as we stopped in front of the house.
The house still had the old half moon windows by the chimney, and most of the front of the house was hidden by thick trees.

b52gf16c What you just said, in a normal house that was brand new, a power outage on a stormy night would not bother me at all, especially if I add a back-up generator, but at the Amittyville House, a power outtage during a stormy night would scare the living daylights out of me, even with a back-up generator.
You couldn't even pay $100 million to live in that house, 1 weekend with a group of friends is probably all I could handle in that house.

I truely believe in the afterlife,as I had an unexplainable experience
at my previous address..Some houses seem to harbour bad feelings
and no amount of decorating or rearrangement is going to change
that. Some houses are sad and you can almost feel the tension, while
    others are homely and warm.
I don't know how anyone would want to live in a house, where a murder
has taken place. It doesn't matter how much you change it,it will still
linger in the back of your mind, especially when you hear a creak or
    a door opens...

That depends on where in the projects they are killed...in their apartment, outside in the parking lot, playground, etc.... Usually when you're murdered inside a structure, a window must be opened to allow your soul to leave and cross over or it will be stuck inside for ever or until someone opens the window. I'm pretty sure there are many souls drifting through the projects each night. You should stay out all night and watch.

He pulled out those two creepy little windows and replaced them with new modern windows and has said that he's spent time alone in the house....no problems...no noises. One person commenting on another site was actually friends with the one brother, Marc. He had been inside the house on numerous occasions and said that nothing was wrong with it...no noises...nothing out of the ordinary. I believe the people who live there and have been in the house, they say the house is fine...I believe them.

I'm glad to see this house looking so good inside and outside. To me it's an affirmation of life that the Ocean Avenue house has not been given up on and demolished but has been updated and improved. Some styles look good in all eras but the 1960s/70s style from the time of the Defeos, in my opinion, just looks dated and unappealing and doesn't go well with the Dutch Colonial style. ---Some people have said they wouldn't live in this house because of the murders but do those people know the history of their own homes? If a house has a bad history that history can't be undone but current residents can know about it, have respect for what happened and for the suffering that people went through and those current residents can still enjoy their home and make good things happen in it. To whoever now lives at 108 Ocean Avenue: health, peace, happiness and prosperity to you in your beautiful home.

I recently saw a video of photos taken throughout the house just after the murders . Back then the interiors of the Ocean Avenue house were some of the ugliest I've ever seen. I'm no designer or decorator but I would find it difficult to live in a place with so many patterns and designs and colors and tacky-looking furniture. I wonder if just the surroundings of the DeFeos added, though maybe only a little, to the stress in the family. They lived in a place that was anything but restful to the eye or that would be calming or relaxing.

I also think the house looks beautiful. Getting rid of the 60's updates looks wonderful. But if it were my house the first thing I would do is restore the 3rd floor quater circle windows. I live in a historic neighborhood that has a few 1920's Dutch Colonial revival homes that are almost duplicates of this house & they all have those distinctive windows. I love them! The new square windows take away from the charm if the house. Makes it look generic.

Went out to Amityville and walked past the home on Ocean Avenue(a beautiful home) one time, I spoke with one of the residents who was out in the driveway tinkering with their car,and they reported nothing occurring in the home of Supernatural proportion. That's not to say that there isn't some residual effects in the home. Still,it was a great tragedy that happened there, may those who lost their lives in the DeFeo family rest in peace.🕊️*I am no relation to the Lutzes, even though my last name is Lutz.*

So strange how the house looks so nice on the inside, even in the DeFeo crime-scene photos from 1974...yet in the first couple of movies (especially the first one), it looks run-down and just plain "tired". Oddly enough, that seems to ramp up the creepiness factor.

It's a beautiful house! I'd never buy it or live in it though.

+I Am Dee She may have been able to do so, but I would still be uncomfortable living there. Every place which once has been haunted has the potential to be haunted again by evil spirits. Especially in a place as this where something really evil took place at one point. I wouldn't trust it!

    • @iGoddess
      @iGoddess 9 лет назад +7

+Chris Go Yes you're right but I'd rather not know it and I'd rather live in a place where ppl passed away of natural causes rather than where a brutal evil murder has happened.
I lived in houses where ppl have died and they were old and sick. Our fam took care of them before they died there in the house and I never had a probl with that. I even slept in the beds on which they've died on, but the diff is that their death was natural and peaceful. There was no anger, hate, brutality or murder and therfore it was positive energy left behind.
In a place like this the negative energy is most likely strong and thick and negative energy attracts negativity and positive energy attracts positivity.

I love this house. Always been extremely intrigued by it. However, I could never own said house. Maybe this house is haunted or maybe it’s not, but the fact remains that 6 people were brutally murdered, including three children. This fact would never leave my mind living there. I remember when Lorraine and Ed Warren captured a picture by the upstairs banister of what looks like the spirit of a little boy. Some say it’s legitimate, some say it’s fake. I do know of other occurrences that have happened that most people don’t know about because I know someone from the Defeo days, and there will always be those who say the whole thing was a hoax and there will be those who believe. There are people who lived in the house that did in fact have paranormal experiences, but never spoke up because of the Lutz hoax. I personally believe that the Lutz family did indeed have experiences, but I think it was all blown up for the book and movie. It’s hard to convince anyone of situations that are abnormal unless they themselves experience them first hand.

+roisindubh02 I agree with you in a way. I believe at first the Lutz family had to have seen something because why on earth would they jet and leave everything they've ever owned in that house? But I also believe they only saw something because of the occult George Lutz's dad had dabbled in. Once they learned they could make some easy cash they were all about making the story as horrifying as they could! I also believe with all my heart that the house didn't tell Ronald Defeo to kill his family. He took heroine and Lsd regularly. That shit makes you trip balls. Therefore he could've in his mind "heard" and "seen" the "house" telling and possessing him to be an idiot. And the reason none of the other families after the Lutz's seen or heard anything is because they were at peace with the happenings in the house. They probably didn't see anything because they weren't in the occult!

As much as the house got modernized, the best way to get the stalkers away is to demolish the house and build a new one with a completely different look. No problems have been reported about the house. Even the neighbors have said they've never seen or heard any goings on there. It should be noted that the house is located in an area of high property taxes. No where on Long Island are there any haunted houses in poor, low-income neighborhoods or communities. All the so-called haunted houses are in areas that are affluent or well-to-do. I find that strange. I grew up on Long Island...lived there for 25 years before I left. Just buy the house and enjoy it. A million dollars is a bargain for a home on the south shore....especially a house that big.

Couldn't afford it? Tired of people coming to see it? Or haunted?? If I bought the house id keep it and not move and maybe turn it into a little hotel and charge big bucks to stay there.

I clicked on the 3:18 and sure enough you see it immediately because it's like a card in the center ... can't miss it ... colors of beige and outline of face is in black or dark brown. Really creepy! Wonder what it is that would be in the center like that and to have a face on it ... ewwww!!! Really creepy looking!

Christopher Duganberry: I've read your reply comments on here and wonder if you are a psychic or someone who deals with paranormal activity? You sure come across that way. Just wondering. Interesting on some of the things you've been saying.

It's a really nice house, it's just a very sad story about the family that were killed there.

For some reason I like the fact that nothing in that house matched

Wow. The new photos of the inside of the house are amazing. I've followed the story my whole life. I for one believe that what the Lutz family experienced there was very much real, and I knew "Lee" Lutz. As much as Kathy's son's, Chris and Daniel, seem to despise their former step-dad (George "Lee" Lutz), they also confirm that what they experienced there was very much real (although they blame Lee, in various ludicrous ways; such as him having "Carrie" like telekinesis). Horrible tragedy, for both families. I think that, most likely, whatever haunted 112 (or now, 108) Ocean Avenue, is long since gone. Remember there were many psychics and investigations into the house right after the Lutz's fled. I would never go near it, myself, in the off chance that something is lingering, just waiting for the right person/family.

I believe what they when through was 90% true, the 10% being made up for tv/movie.
People need to remember that after such a traumatic experience (Defeo) and going through a hard time themselves (Lutz) the house will have that negative energy.
Every other person living there may not have experienced anything because they either don't see (or feel it), or because they bring good energy with them and it calms the negative energy in the house down. Regards I'd still live there, it's not as though it's the only house to see a death. People die every day in there house, most not so brutal, but it's still a death.

Apparently, the owners (after the Lutz family) got so annoyed that people would drive up to the house just to see the “evil eyes windows” that they replaced them with just regular windows.
