What a pair of superbly talented musical icons. Next time you're cursing this world remember the greatest gift God ever gave us was the free will to take this bucket of shit and make beauty that lasts forever.
This was written for Jerry Butler, 1962, by Burt Bacharach (music) and Hal David (Lyrics). Jerry Butler's original recording is by far the best version. With all due respect to Burt, I'm sure he'll agree no one can touch Jerry Butler's version. They even chose Jerry Butler to sing the song when they first wrote and composed it, choosing Jerry over Dionne Warwick who they had just signed.
Who would have thought? Elvis Costello? As poignant as the Walker Brothers, in an opposite direction. Wow. The song came out of several that Jerry Butler had approached Bacharach to write for him. Jerry was a star. Burt was a "nobody." As fate would have it, good results. Burt and Hal were new to each other, but so on point here. It is amazing that this was such an early collaboration for them. A top notch song. Really top notch. Elvis Costello? It goes into my rotation tonight.
Esta canción es muy relajante 💐 Gracias. 💐

This sounds so good. Mellow with sweet inflections flowing along the melodious strains of a timeless ballad.

@@river4462 I guess I am partial to my friends' version. This one is good enough. I listened to the older versions and it wasn't as moving for me.💓
